I dont even like lumping Statcast or this GPS with the idea of sabrmetrics. It's observations of what actually happened, not assigning value like sabrmetrics in baseball or previous analytics in football. Gruden is right that a lot of teams dont have the manpower/hardware to properly analyse the data dump of GPS Data. http://www.packersnews.com/story/sp...ty-packers-poised-profit-data-dump/354794002/
Show me a picture of the guy's girlfriend and I can tell you all I need to know about him as a player
I don't know why people still feel the need to point out that analytics can't replace everything. No shit. I think this point (that, for example, analytics makes good scouting even more important) was being made as far back as Moneyball.
I read it could be as early as 2019 if they want to go into the UNLV stadium like the Vikings did before they finished their stadium
right, they have been approved to move in 2019. but they want to play in the bay next year and the unlv stadium might not even be ready to host nfl games yet
Albert Pujols or Chris Davis is worse. If they fire Gruden they are just out $, it doesnt count against the salary cap.
In a chat today Dan Szymborski was asked if Chris Davis were a free agent whether he would get a job and the answer was no. With Gruden there is room to assume he's just tanking to peek when they move to Vegas.
Not really. Gruden didn't make any off season moves that indicated tanking. He's not really making them in season either. You don't play old veterans who are awful over young guys like he is if you're playing for the future. Hes either REALLY bad at tanking or he's just really bad in general. I understand some people think he's trying to mold the team for what he wants in the future but none of the stuff he's done personnel wise points to that
2017 first round pick gareon Conley isn't playing any snaps on defense because it's 2018 and we are giving the most snaps to Daryl Worley, Rodgers-cromartie, Leon hall, and Reggie Nelson
so like, 1 game he has a pick 6, the next he doesnt play any snaps cause Gruden doesnt like his techniques?
He got benched after getting repeatedly torched, but no one can cover forever and our safeties provide no help at all He'd rather run out there some seriously shitty veterans than give any of the young guys a chance to learn at all
Previously like 2 years ago? He has like 900 yards in his last 20 games. He's super inconsistent. I think he's pretty good but we aren't using him and it's almost time for him to get paid and I don't see any reason to pay him
not for the future no, but that's exactly what you do if you are tanking and wanting high draft picks
wanted to get "his guys" in the offseason which is stupid and now doesn't want to seem like a fool (but is anyways) for spending money on them and then benching the same guys he signed/traded for but he is tanking the rest of this season, no doubt about it. What other choice does he have
He isn't tanking. Gruden wants to win. He's just not good at his job. There isn't a single thing he's done that indicates he isn't trying to win.
Some of the guys he brought in he isn't even playing and has openly talked shit about. He just cut Derrick Johnson and was bashing on Melvin who should be playing.
He brought in tank carradine and didn't play him either (because he's not good) so carradine asked for and was granted a release.
Our linebackers are getting torched in the passing game, but they refuse to play our best coverage backer.
He can be horrible at his job and make horrendous signings/trades and will still get high draft picks. Both of those things aren't mutually exclusive obviously. Hell, ask the browns for 2 decades. These high draft picks will probably suck too
No shit you get high draft picks when you suck. You're pretending like he's intentionally sucking. He's not, he just is any good. What have you seen that indicates he's actually smart and is making all of these poor decisions on purpose?
I haven't said he's smart at all, im agree'ing with you about how bad hes been, slow down. This isn't the 2012 76er's, intentionally tanking. It will come down to what he does with these high draft picks. He was pretty terrible at drafting with the Bucs in the 2000's
The stupid thing about all this is Gruden is gonna ride out until like the 4th year in Vegas before he hangs it up
