Who's ever played the game? My best accomplishments are leading Stockport County from League 2 to the Championship playoffs and leading Serbia to EURO 2012 glory.
I've never played, but how does it work? Do you play online or is it a sim type of thing? Whenever I look up a youth signing, google results are always from Football Manager forums.
It's a computer game....you can buy the CD from Amazon for cheap. You can download custom databases, leagues, skin packs, pictures, ect. from many FM fansites.
so football manager is less detailed then? because i made it like a week into fifa manager before i decided to can it
It has a lot of details when it comes to players, teams, leagues, etc. but you can control the level of detail. You can have your assistant manager resign players, run training, coach and set friendlies so you can devote yourself to signing players, setting tactics and in game coaching which is what I do.
ok that sounds better fifa manager even made you hold press conferences and shit, it took so long to even advance to the next game
The new one (FM 2009) you can choose to do press conferences. I just liked to screw with the media when I did mine.
I played 2008 and 2009. Lincoln County is my squad and I have them in the EPL all the way from League 2 in like 4 or 5 years. It is pretty time consuming and I have other shit to do, so I stopped playing it. Taxes, I downloaded it on Demonoid and it is widely available on most torrance sites.
FM is the most in depth and complex game out there. I took Cambridge United from Blue Square North to Premier League Champs in like 7 years.
I never had a good parent club. I always had some L1 team instead of a Premier or Champ side. But I got one guy and scored like 65 goals with him when we won the Championship and sold him for like $150 mill and bought a bunch of Premier level players and finished like 2nd my first year up.
I would always try to get Ben Sahar (Chelsea) and Craig Cathart (United) on loan. I would also make good use of the free transfer market if I was a Championship squad.
I always seemed to get Everton or Villa as my Parent club no matter what team I was. Everton would send me some decent guys and I would always approach United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool for young 17 or 18 guys to take on loan. Jack Wilshere did pretty well for me one season. The free transfers were pretty money as well. When I was in League One or Two I always would go for young guys on shittier Euro national teams that had free transfers or low transfer fees.
I'd always bring in Andre Pierre Gignac from 07-09 versions and he would score at least once a match in my 4-4-2 diamond attack.
I always ran the 4-42 diamond because I would always get a CAM on loan and their passing and scoring skills were so much better then anybody else out there.
Love the game. Just finished the toughest challenge of my life, taking FC United of Manchester to the Premier League from the Blue Square North/South. Finally won the Premier League, but still trying to win the Champions League. I'm in like year 2027.
Yeah they have all those UK leagues so its great to do some llm. I think if you enable all leagues there are over 200 from 50 countries or something plus national teams.
yeah, it's really cool...but it is pretty involved, and takes some time getting used to...what i love is that there are many sites out there that create actual kits, logos, and facepacks that you can add to the game since SI doesn't have the licenses for all the leagues
Man if they have Blue Square South. Im gonna have to be Lewes. I lived right next to that place for a year.
OK I am really interested now. So what company makes this?? Is it for sale on regular videogame stores?? Can I download it for free?? Do you play the games at all or just the set the lineups and formations and they are simulated?
Sports Interactive makes it. I can never find it in stores here....but you can get it on Amazon. You can download the full version, but I wouldn't recommend it. You can't save it on a CD for later. You can play the games and set tactics and such. You can also simulate games...just go on holiday in the game.
I'll do more research when I get home, but it sounds awesome. Did any of you get to play Ultimate Team on FIFA 09??
It's apparently available on PSP as well. Here is the Wiki page on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_Manager
Best Game Mode EVER!!!!!!! That shit was so addicting it wasnt even funny. I almost had my 99 everything team (ratings and chemistry) but then NCAA came out and i stopped playing. I really hope it comes up for FIFA 10.
great game. I had a friend in middle school who gave me the game to try (I am senior in college now so I have been playing for a long time). You really need to take like 2 full days if you have never played the game before to understand it unless you REALLY understand soccer. This game is one of the keys to me understanding the sport of soccer. It is the #1 selling sports game in the UK, but never caught on in the US. They have a US version called worldwide soccer manager which is available via digital download. The new game comes out in like a month I believe. Go to SIGAMES.com if you want more information on the game
I downloaded it last night and tried playing, but there was just way too much stuff and I couldn't find most of it. Like they would give hints to use counter attack vs better teams and I had no clue how to set it to counter. I went to tactics and you could just set the lineup.
How do you sim games? Been trying to figure it out, but it always just takes me to the game which takes forever and slows down my computer. I started one with Port Vale, and requested a parent club and got Man U. The guy they sent me on loan is raping the league
Thanks, is there a way to see overall rating for the player (like FIFA) when setting the lineup? It sucks having to compare each player 1 by 1, category by category.
So you can be any team you want?? I can be a team in Segunda Division in Chile and then make it all the way to winning the Copa Libertadores?? What happens then do you get offers from other teams to be their manager?? Can you take over top teams right away or not?? I would love to bring Leeds back to the EPL. I need to find a low division team in England to take from obscurity to fame.
Yes, as long as you pick their countries and leagues at the beginning of the game. You can pick any team you want (club and country) given what countries you selected to run. When a team offers you a job, you can choose what transfer budget and wage budget you want as leverage. If you are a top manager, they will almost always give in. I took Stockport County from League 2 to the Championship playoffs, damn you Crystal Palace. I then cashed in and took the Spurs job that summer.
Sounds awesome. Should I wait for 2010 version to come out and buy that one then?? I dont know anything about torrance so unless there is another way for me to get 2009 I would have to purchase it too.
I think I am gonna try to download the demo for 09 see how I like it and then see about 2010. Although FIFA 10 comes out soon so that will get all of my attention.
