not to derail, but maybe their should be an oscar for best voice acting in a game, or something like that. would be cool to see.
No one can convince me TLoU or GoW was not infinitely better than Green Book at telling a compelling story
It’s really good so far, even though I assume I’m not far at all (still approaching the capitol building with Ellie and Tess. The 20 year time jump was unexpected. I figured 3-5 years but not sure how much that matters. The assumed Marlene betrayal I saw coming a bit but was a good development, and the reveal about Ellie reminds me a bit of the movie “Children of Men”. As an aside, I suck ass at stealth so this may take a while.
Currently in the sewer with Henry(?) and his younger brother. The story dipped a good bit for me after Tess died but hopefully it picks back up. Bill felt like how a real “ally” would be in that situation and finding his partner was rough. Ellie getting a weapon and becoming more involved was satisfying though. The game does a very good job of rewarding exploration even though it’s very linear by modern standards. I always try to keep 1 extra shiv in case of what I call a “loot door”. Although I’m starting to get used to the controls, I hope they fine tune them in 2. Combat is rendered unnecessarily difficult due to this. The AI is surprisingly good IMO.
Has definitely picked up. The “attack” on the brother’s compound seemed a bit contrived but hey you need some gameplay. I think I’m close to the end, and FUCK THIS GODDAMN HOSPITAL
since this is a video game thread and i am odin.... tlou thoughts and opinions: combat is bad, not quite red dead bad, but still bad. because third gunplay is always bad. in every game. i hope you all know this is a universal truth. luckily there was enough weird melee combat and stealth that it didnt matter. you can legitimately just stealth the whole game and then it doesnt matter if combat is bad. it's one of those "i burn my hand when i touch the hot stove so i'm just not going to do that anymore" type situations. theres a couple of reliable ohk weapons and that helps too. the linearity of this game is something that games like red dead 2 should strive for. have a compelling story to tell? don't do it in a world that takes 5000 hours to cross on horseback. if you insist on being open world, tell your story then open up into the world. would rdr2 have been a better game if it was liner until the epilogue? i think so, but i don't get paid $4 million a year to give my opinions on video game. i have been legitimately brought to tears twice while playing video games, and no i'm not counting when i laugh until i cry because TrustyPatches and I are too fucked up to realize a deer is moving. First time was at the end of FFX when Yuna runs through Tidus. That's fucking sad shit. The other time was when Sarah died. That shit is fucked up and exactly the kind of shit that needs to happen in the first 30 minutes of a game to have me emotionally invested enough to actually finish it.

Not to mention PS4 has a massive install base. Launching it on a brand new console would kill the sales.
Great game Game was great Thought for sure Joel was a goner Thing that stuck out to me the most about the gameplay was the enemy AI.
Definitely worth it, I really enjoyed the combat sequences in Left Behind, and the story bits are top notch
