By the way I’ve yet to see a viewpoint in here your average republican wouldn’t want to suppress besides the one auburn fan that swaps it for his alcohol addiction
I’m semi trolling in that neither believe in God and I think Osteen is far more damaging to humanity than Hitchens. Osteen can burn in hell forever
totally. Was raised Methodist then watched my mother die when I was ten years old. I am absolutely mad at that “upbringing”. Surely something I should be okay with? Stupid shits. Fuck your “god”
correct me if I am wrong but you’re pretty religious or has that changed? What you’re arguing is what turned me off of religion a long time ago. Is it just luck that someone is born into the right religion. If a Muslim lives a righteous life is he doomed regardless how a Buddhist? A Jewish person ? Why are some lucky and some not. I feel like I am a good person. I live a good kind life I am kind to my fellow man and it has nothing to do with religion. Nothing really to do with god. But, if there a heaven am I just fucked because i “don’t accept Jesus as my personal lord and savior”?
Im not religious and haven’t been for some time, I’m kind and loving because it’s the right thing to do
And I don’t believe in a “god” so again no one has died in what I personally believe. So stop trying so hard. You’re barking up the wrong tree.
I’m not trying hard at all. Not sure why that keeps coming up. The burden of proof isn’t on me, lmbo. You know that, right?
Figured out at a young age religion was another way for people of power to get dumber people to fall in line and rule them. The bible is a good fictional novel since who knows which version is real these days.
my bad was it Seavie who was extremely religious? Or were you too when the board started and move from that?
to your point there has never been a real version and historians can trace the acceptance or rejections of different books
Seavie was/is quite religious by the time we started In 2009 i May have said I was religious but I was lying to myself
One of my childhood friends has always been a laid back and friendly guy. Always a really trustworthy dude and 'the type of guy you'd want to date your sister' if you will. He is smart and hard working and genuinely caring and has decided to become a pastor. He has always been religious but would also cut loose when the occasion called for it. Genuinely happy to see someone like him dedicate themselves to using their faith to help people and improve the world around them. Gives me hope that there are still a lot of good people using religion to do good things for others. Seavie is a Christian for sure. IV is the opposite.
“Trying too hard” as in trying to be a hardo asshole itt. You’re just coming off as someone who isn’t interested in discussion just trying to douche up the thread. Telling me “millions have die in the name of my god” illustrates that.
i too enjoy discussing totally fictional things. Why can’t we talk about Santa clause or the Easter bunny?
I just happened to be listening to the Serpents Of The Light album when this thread was made. I think it's a sign from God.
No, haven't been a believer since my balls dropped. I cant say anything for certain, but it doesnt do anything for me. Not mad if someone believes and is a good person who doesn't push it on anyone.
My favorite thing in life is when someone who isn't religious tells people what religious people think
im not really interested in debating apologetics with you but would happily do it over PM if you are Interested. I have plenty of scientific and philosophical information that helps buttress my beliefs. I am a Christ follower. I have plenty of reasons that strengthen my faith I’m somewhat of a mess. I detest 98% of evangelicals and don’t think they are real Christians. I’m not going to go dbl and banter for 9 pages over the most inane of opinions. But would be happy to talk to you for as long as you want via pm Peace
I should have prefaced that I don’t care what someone believes as long as they’re a good person and I’ve yet to see anything from you that would lead me to believe you weren’t. I apologize if i upset you or anyone else.
All the religious people I know are quite kind and helpful, even after they find out I enjoy satanic death metal.
my favorite part of this thread is 85% of the people voting yes are too ashamed of themselves to post
I’m Catholic. And I volunteer a lot of my time and money through my Church. As do a lot of dads of my kids’ friends. Our wives are the same way. We do what we can to give back through our church. I’m also a person. And there are times where I question everything I’ve known about the religion and God in general. I also don’t care about what other people wish to believe and Ill never push my beliefs on someone else. And yes I’m fully aware of the mistakes my religion has made in the past and I’m extremely aware that I am in no way close to a perfect person.
I pretty much said this twenty years ago to my best man, a close friend of nearly 30 years and a very devout Christian. He told me on no uncertain terms that even though I thought I was living a moral life, I had no conception of what a moral life was, because I hadn't accepted Jesus into my heart. I could only lead a moral life by accident, not by design. For a lot of people, morality and goodness are defined by faith.
Me personally, fuck no. The concept of an all-knowing, all-powerful invisible man in the sky calling balls and strikes is not practical to me. You’re born, you live, you die and decompose. That’s it. I dislike religion greatly because it’s used in the macro to separate, diminish and discriminate against people. It’s used as a shield to act like a jackass at best, a murdering, hateful sociopath at worst. The hypocrisy of religion as a whole is severe and turns me against the concept pretty fiercely. That said, if religion can help individuals in the micro be better people and, more importantly, treat others better no matter what sect they belong to (or if they don’t believe at all), cool by me. I won’t tell you the absurdity of God if you don’t tell me I’m going to hell because I don’t worship the God you want me to worship in the way you prefer to worship him (or her, or it).
"devote your life to me or burn for eternity" - god good news is, if you do devote your life to him your eternity will also be devoted to him. guy sounds like an egotistical dick.
Sure. Seems like mostly among people who grow up in really homogeneous environments and don't ever get out of it. Common in rural areas with bad education systems I'd imagine
It's cool that you're helping your fellow humans through your faith organization. I would like to point out that while the faith component is present, it isn't a necessary element for helping people and doing decent deeds.
I don’t know about god but there’s one thing I believe in and that is that lechnerd is fat. Where is that god damn survey option OP?
