Bought into 3 cases of Contenders for the Falcons. Out of all 3 cases, I hit an AJ Terrell auto, 2 Marlon Davidson autos, and a numbered Gurley. All those were in the 3rd case.
My daniel lynch gamble a couple years ago might pan out here. I was able to snag a luke little bcp gold wave auto for $40 yesterday as well
Unfortunately pitchers don't have the upside hitters do. I bought both Verlander topps chrome and Bowman rookie autos back in 2005. He is probably the best pitcher of the last 15 years arguably and both still only $200 something cards. I paid $50 or less each I'm pretty sure but if he was a hitter it'd be worth a bunch more
They still sell though. I've made a killing of Shane Bieber the past year. I bought lynch in bulk. I've got probably 40-50 lynch bowman chrome autos probably 10 or so graded. My average price on those is probably $35 a piece. But I've got all color or ref.
No one else still is on NBA Top Shots? This thing is blowing up. Site is down until 6pm today for maintenance because it’s exploding with users. Tug Papa Das
I just got on it on Tuesday after hearing about it on The Mismatch. Was able to get three packs that day but unable to get one since then. Bought a few Hawks and I’ll probably not buy any more singles until I see I can actually turn a profit.
I just got on too. The podcast blitz has made it extremely difficult to get any packs. I secure two in the early release yesterday but none in the second release. I’m interested to see how this plays out.
I’ve seen it talked about on Twitter. I deal with enough L’s chasing physical cards I don’t need to dabble with electronic.
Saw this and remembered my Montana rookie card is not in great shape, you suck 10 year old southlick. I dug out the rest of my cards and found a Walter Payton 1976 (2nd year) Lawrence Taylor rookie Steve Largent rookie Marcus Allen rookie other rookies not worth much
One good card in it but low odds of pulling. Not an awful gamble but likely you won't get your money back. But last I saw the Lafreniere was going over $200
The chasing and missing out blows, but the instant gratification and not having to deal with the rating process or extreme anxiety that you’re going to damage the card after opening it is much better to me.
If you're up for a 1-2 card chase, do it. Lafarenier and McMichael(who's debuting this week) are the main ones I think
I sold a Krebs for like $10 and McDavid insert for like $20 so a few other ok cards but high odds you going to end up with not much
Bought a hank Aaron card for my PC the day he died because I knew prices were about to go apeshit. Guy just cancelled my order to undoubtedly sell it for at least double what I paid for it. Shit is fucking lame.
I got one 2 years ago for Christmas. It was a 91 upper deck series where they put the auto number out of /2500 on the card in sharpie. Its in a screw down and had been sitting on the shop shelf for a while. Wife got it for $125. Got it til I die
May try and grab a pack or two if I am able to over the next few weeks. Also looking to see if I can snag a Devontae Graham one because I'm a sucker
It's cards, except that you don't own a physical card, you own a highlight("moment") that is basically crypto. You can keep it and hope it gains value, or sell them.
Didn't think of it as like a 1/1 that you could resell. That makes more sense. Thanks. Still not for me though
It's definitely not for everyone. There's print runs for all the moments, with the value coming from having the <10 of the large print runs, or getting your hands on the limited runs. I think it could be something I buy a pack or two and see what happens
If I saw correctly, a Tyler Herro layup highlight from game 1 of the finals is up for sale for $9500. Damn.
I have spent about $500 so far. The packs are not easy to get anymore after last Tuesday, so it’s all been on single players. As soon as I buy something, I put it back on sale for at least a 2x premium. I made 350% on a Trae Young in 36 hours. My goal is to just keep trading up to get the #299 print quantities of young up and comers. Anything under that in quantity is just too ridiculous to even think about. I’ve worked my way down at the moment to the ~2,000 to 3,000 range moments of good young guys (Trae, Jokic, Hunter, Collins, Divincenzo, Reddish). I just look at players I think are undervalued and buy. The cheapest LeBron card (7,500 print) is $530 now. I don’t have the $$ to get right now, but I think the most undervalued cards are a SGA #299 Gold LE moments for $800 or a JJJ same for $800. A LaMelo #4,000 print is already $559 for instance. There is exponential growth right now so if you are a good judge of upside talent and popularity in the NBA, you will make your money back and then some. I don’t think that will last forever but 5x to 10x growth in users the next month is very doable. I can see people moving BTC to their Dapper accounts as well to buy the moments.
Once i saw that in their Instagram comments I backed off, especially when some are just jump shots. Ok for a Trae Young highlight that can be rare at times
I get it. Not all are great, but you can get some that are your favorite player/team, or you can get them to try and make some money. Market is insane right now, saw that over $5 million in sales has happened today I think, just in the marketplace.
I don't understand the disparity with some of the prices. Theirs a Giannis /499 for sale for $737, a highest sale price of $999, and a highest asking of $18,000.
No different than eBay. That's just the asking price. The value is in the sold/recent sales. The value is the low serial #
I bought a common Ja for $38. Top sale prices were over $100. Think I might relist it for around $70 and sit on it and see what happens. I'll have to do some research on younger players to see who would be good to buy and flip. Would love to get a rare pack.
Their discord has updated that a lot of the backlog of stuff is getting fixed and some packs that didn't get paid for will go back live
I am here for Topshot. Loved collecting cards as a kid but haven't bought any other than a few random packs in the past 10 years. I think topshot is fantastic and here to stay. Hope they can get everything running smoothly and fully built out. So much opportunity with NBA behind it.
Only one torkelson base auto has sold in last 10 days on ebay and only 2 actively for sale. It's weird, plenty of color for sale and sold. Its almost like the base is more rare
ok so someone please explain this to me a little better. So this top shot phenomenon is a "pack of digital highlights of NBA players" just like in the card world the more you pay the better chance of getting a better highlight? Say I buy a pack and open it and I end up with the Lebron James block of Andre Igudalo from the finals. I now own that highlight? So are these highlights then wiped from all other media outlets and I reap the royalties from them? or can people just go watch them on youtube?
In a short answer, no. You don’t own the highlight. You own a serial number of the highlight on Top Shots. No different from owning a numbered mint sports card except you don’t have a cardboard physical copy. Your copy is on the blockchain. The market lets you list the highlight for whatever you want and you can see what every other highlight is on the market for.Top Shots gets 5% off of every sale so they want as much activity as possible with highlights changing hands. They also want to make sure it is a balance of scarcity and availability as far as packs go. Right now you can’t get a pack unless you are very lucky. Kind of like getting a good ticket on TicketMaster when they go on sale for a big concert. Early last week, packs were just sitting to be bought but that quickly changed when word got out on The Mismatch podcast among a few other new sources picking up the big sales.
