Jesse Daniel's new album is pretty solid on first listen. About halfway through now, and really liking it.
I’m not convinced that today’s country music is gayer than old country music. The artists are just slightly more overtly homosexual than was “Hank” Williams.
After a few listens, I really think this is their strongest album yet. None of the songs individually are as good as Steak night, the last time, or wedding band for me but every single song on this album is great in its own right. Tough right now to name my favorite album of the year with Cole Chaney, John R Miller, Mac Leaphart, and Pony Bradshaw. It's been such a great year even without some big names. That's a solid top 5 for any year
they sound awesome live. went to see them at the grey eagle in asheville in 2019. i was bummed that me and like 15 other people showed up to see them. they brought good energy despite the small crowd. something about a pedal steel just really hits for me. i dont get to see many bands that feature one.
Probably not gonna be the most popular opinion in here but this cover is amazing to me. Stapleton goes off at like the 6 minute mark.
The McMurtry is so good. Operation Never Mind is such a perfectly timed American military industrial complex song that it just bowled me over. And a worthy defense of the working class.
Never been into country all that much but I’ve always liked George Strait. Been listening to a ton of his stuff the last few days.
Going to Railbird Festival this weekend. Was bummed that Tanya Tucker and Colter Wall had to cancel. Luckily they filled one of those spots with Robert Earl Keen
Railbird had 3 stages and it was tough to try and see everybody I wanted to, but I was able to see most of them. I saw: Jason Isbell Zach Bryan Billy Strings Robert Earl Keen Margo Price Leon Bridges Dave Matthews My Morning Jacket Billy and his band completely blew me away. One of the best live performances I’ve ever seen.
Saturday was pretty brutal. Very hot and crazy long/slow lines everywhere all day. Lots of pissed off people. Sunday was much better. Easy access to free water bottles all day, shorter/faster lines, and not as hot.
I was rage tweeting them about the lines on Saturday. That was an abject failure on their part. 100° heat index and there are hour lines for fucking water. other than that, the music was solid. Introduced some folks to Zach Bryan’s music and they loved him. Black Pumas also put on a solid set and I spent the entire set in line at that Budweiser Beer Garden
