I posted on Nextdoor and will wait a week to hear something, then take her to get scanned. Also, I live in a weird neighborhood, I can’t even access any of my neighbors front doors. It’s an affluent area but with lots of homeless so everyone has a huge ass security fence except me.
Yeah man just give a cat space and they’ll eventually settle in. I just make sure they have food, water, a clean box, and toys scattered about. Other than that I ignore them. Then one morning they are laying in my couch spot waiting for me.
Agreed. My cats all found hiding places for a while and now one of them will jump on top of the cat tree to get pets and meow her head off when I come home from work
It could just be some kind of internet wisdom bullshit but I've had good results separating food/water between rooms
We adopted a new one that we have been feeding outside the house for like 4 months. She finally got the courage to come inside and is here to stay. Thank goodness because it's getting cold. The only bad thing is she doesn't get fixed for another week and she's in heat, just waking around the house yelling and trying to get my other female cat to fuck her. She cute tho
I’ve posted this kind of picture multiple times before. This is my house pissing cat. She has probably done $10k in damage to my floors. But she is on top of me every single time I lay down in bed. I love cats and this is the last one I’ll have.
17 1/2 years. When you adopt a newborn kitten in college because your roommate found a pregnant cat, you don’t do the calculus that one day this may be my kids cat. but tomorrow looks like will be the day we say goodbye. Thanks Miller. Enjoying some last outside time.
Damn man. So sorry to hear. Just remember the good times and how much better Miller’s life was by having you
Funny enough I had a realization several years ago (pre dog and pre kids) that this cat trusted me and it was a rewarding moment when it came to me. That this living breathing thing trusted me to take care of it. (Even though he eyed his escapes several times…but still). anyway last picture here he is with the same teddy bear in both photos.
Probably putting down our girl today, had 16 great years with her though. This last stroke paralyzed her back half.
Sorry to hear HotMic What I said to Subzero really applies to anyone here that is losing their furry friend. They were better off with us and we were better for having found them
My friend just adopted a former stray whose had a rough life. Considering getting him an eye patch and calling him "Nick Fury" lol
Took our two cats (sisters from the same litter) to the vet a couple weeks ago for the annual check-up and everything looked good. Piper (the slightly heavier one) has been super lethargic the last couple days and isn't eating anything. She's usually the one scurrying to the bowl when we feed them in the morning. We've tried to give her some treats while she's been lounging on the couch with us but she won't even eat those. I'm not sure what the issue is, wondering if she ate something she shouldn't have or if she's constipated, who the hell knows. I'm going to call the vet to get something scheduled but curious if anyone has had this experience and what the diagnosis was?
TableKnight is the roommate in millers origin story btw. Misty was the pregnant mom. Award him with your likes for saving 5 cats.
Looking more and more like this sweetie is mine. No chip, no responses to social media posts, no neighbors know who she belongs to. Anyone got any tips on how to transition from inside/outside to purely inside? I’ve succeeded in keeping her in at night, but she’s quite insistent on going outside during the day. I also spend a lot of time outside in my very small yard which makes things difficult.
I mean our cat has always been inside and outside, she stays inside mostly but we do let her outside for a few hours a day, at least when she was younger. Are you worried she's going to get lost or kill a thousand animals that you don't want?
We ended up having to go ahead and do it. The vet said there was no chance of walking again, and that she’d keep having strokes until one finally killed her. We had to put our pup down due to cancer within the last year as well. Hopefully we’re done with this sort of thing for a long time now, because man does it suck.
Is Piper long hair? Had an experience like this with a long hair cat growing up. Took him to vet and he was all backed up from swallowing his own hair. Had to give him some kind of black paste daily after that to keep him regular
So sorry man. That has to be awful for your family. How the kids holding up? Sending good vibes your way man, no more of that
Thanks man. Our 12 year old took both pretty hard, the 6 and 4 year old still don’t really understand, so they weren’t too upset.
She is an insanely friendly cat and a far ranging explorer. She’ll straight up approach strangers and then follow them down the sidewalk. Area is high traffic at times. I’m gonna try to “cat proof” my yard, it’s basically inescapable on 3 sides, and I can make it pretty tedious for her to get out with a little effort on my part.
I see, but she's already hanging around your house mostly, right? Give her a collar and chip regardless and trim her nails frequently. It may be tough to force her to be a completely inside cat since she's already adopted this personality and you aren't picking her up from the humane society. It would be probably easier if you moved with her, but she probably sees the whole surrounding area as her turf.
We have an island with trash cans on each side. If we leave them open for more than 30 seconds then the cat jumps in. And can’t get out. This is him after being caught in the island for 5 minutes. Look at those pupils.
Around Thanksgiving I heard a cat crying and figured out it was in the engine of my neighbor’s car. We took half the engine apart and found a starving 8 week old kitten. Fast forward these three months and he’s an absolute mess and bounces off the walls, furniture, and our older cats. My wife was boxing up some candlesticks she sold on FB Marketplace this afternoon and this is what I found when I walked into the kitchen.
Not long hair, but that makes sense. I took her to the ER Monday afternoon. She had a temperature of 105.5° (normal is 98-102) they ran a bunch of tests and urinalysis and gave her an IV and held her overnight. Found out it was a UTI and the antibiotic and IV helped bring her temp down. Took her home yesterday afternoon and she immediately ate once I put her in front of her bowl. Lot more energy today and playing and chasing toys. Only way to tell she was at the vet is the front legs getting shaved for the IV’s. Looks like she’s wearing Cat ugg boots
really enjoying the cat. she has taken ownership of this chair and gets a little salty when I'm using it and she wants it.
Let my cat out at like 6am this morning, left my door open, and went back to sleep. Woke up to the cat at the foot of my bed with a medium sized bird in its mouth. She released the bird, which was uninjured somehow and absolute chaos ensued. Had to lock the cat in the bathroom while the bird flew around my place and hung out for a few minutes until it found the front door.
I've had that happen a couple of times when our cat was younger, but the absolute worst is her bringing in chipmunks that are so stupid they avoid running out a wide-open door to freedom and instead keep darting under every god damn piece of furniture.
