I literally hate Beer Advocate more after every visit to their site. I think I'm just up to my ears with a lot of the bullshit. I can't even read reviews anymore. Do these guys even realize what the fuck they are typing half of the time? "I sensed notes of leather and quill pen ink in the flavor. The consistency is very thin, like drinking bubble-blowing solution from a dollar store. It's bouquet smelled like a combination of rotting dandelions and butterscotch chips. Really a phenomenal beer." I can't deal with that level of fart sniffing anymore. Plus, what makes "The Bros" the authority on beer anymore? I have found that I like a ton of shit that they consider bad and dislike quite a few beers that they consider "world class". Fuck them.

I like beer advocate to get an idea about whether the beer is solid or not. Anything 85 or over is generally good and it's a way to gain knowledge of popular beers in certain categories. Agree with the pawn star reference to the bro's and the 5 paragraph essays for reviews are annoying as well. I like a beer if it tastes good, not if it has the right vanilla overtones with bourbon undertones and a slight scent of chocolate.
Do you guys post on BA? I never really go on their forums. I just gain all my knowledge of beer from you guys.
I have peeked in a few times to see what goes on but mostly seems like a bunch of insufferable cunts. Nothing like the big beautiful bastards that post here.
I'm not saying that one can't comment on differences in flavor, but on that site it seems like it's become a competition of who can have the most obscure reference when describing a beer. That, and I'm also more of a "bad/poor/average/good/great/fucking awesome" guy when describing my beers, but that's me.
That is pretty much how I describe beer. I don't even know what the fuck most of these guys are talking about in their reviews on there.

BA is good for news on things - especially smaller breweries like Alpine. I use the overall rankings for a rough ideas on beers I don't know, but that's about it. But it's just so negative most of the time that I can't handle it.

I think they're wannabe wine snobs (although I generally think they're full of shit too) with some of the things they "get" out of a beer. I will often check BA when I'm in the store and unfamiliar with something to get a general idea of what it's like. Other than that I stay the hell away from that forum, it's awful.

the Bros have pretty traditional tastes in beers i.e. belgian trappist style and the types of beers that were considered good like 15 years ago before the craft explosion I pretty much quit trading on there because so many guys are douches but I did get hooked up with a local tasting group through the forums (which are pretty good to get release info etc.).
