I have to assume Freeman is the interim head coach to keep the recruiting class together. Any reason why he wouldn't just be made permanent HC?
Why wouldn't ND hire the 35 year old that has been a coordinator for 1 season with nobody looking over their shoulder?
I’m not sure. I could see Fickell keeping him as DC and ND paying for a raise as a condition to the job. I also could see Freeman take UC. Until ND, Freeman had spent his entire playing/coaching career in the Tressel universe. Even his time at Kent State and Purdue was under Hazell.
ND pays him $1.75 or something similarly ridiculous to be DC because their coach for the last decade just took $100 million and this is the world that a Tier One program now must live in.
If this had happened last cycle, very legitimate. Now, I think Coombs is damaged pretty badly after the post-Oregon demotion and with the larger OSU defensive problems. I also think Coombs would be a perfect figure head type coach at UC who would be an outstanding recruiter. He would need an OC and DC to make it work though, because he’s an X’s and O’s Idiot.
Saban is next. He's going to see all this money being given out and know those poor hillbillies in Alabama are already giving him every penny they got.
Honestly think ND is the team left without a big time hire. Unless Urban bails. Kelly leaving for LSU (the polar opposite of a personality fit) is telling. Should be praying for Fickell instead of saying your jumping ship if he gets hired.
Dunno but I’ve been through enough of these to know what’s going on and I fully expect Mario to be introduced at the U on Saturday.
Hires like this happen all the time at places in a good place who have big time recruting classes and a young hot assistant. I think freeman is the favorite. Its funny you say this after Osu hired day.
Freeman might end up being a home run hire for someone but his resume vs. Day's when he got hired are pretty different
At the time getting the hc job, they look pretty damn similar to me and at least freeman fully ran a unit for 1 year. Day always coached under offensive coaches who had their hands all over the offense. Freeman also has a way bigger recruiting rep than day did
My 8:35am work shit is going to take me a while tomorrow. Feels like there is going to be a lot to catch up on overnight.
Well we are going to have a competition of who has the more incompetent administration. Oregon has historically dragged their asses in situations like this. Mr. Knight would undoubtedly put up the funds, but our athletic director will find a way to bungle fuck some details on the margins. The race is on!!!
if the Columbus/new money faction wins the power struggle on the BOT and the AD fight Mario is definitely the target and getting whatever number he wants but it sounds like it’s an all out civil war among the BOT and no one has any idea who is winning going great in Coral Gables
Not sure if it was that thread or the other where someone said nd will be left without a big hire. Like after USC took Riley and LSU got Kelly, I think the lesson is things are unpredictable.
