I’m sure having a roster loaded with elite playmakers all over the field would’ve been a nice parting gift after 4 years of Kirby. And he might not have been beneath you, but he was absolutely beneath the powers that be. Hell, they overruled PFD by hiring Gus. He was Kirby’s biggest proponent.
Wasn't "beneath" us. Our old AD is just dumb and too much lil brother shit. Pretty sure Muschamp also talked him out of it or at least warned him about some of our Boosters and he wanted some kind of deal that would isolate them to some extent
I think that is some revisionist history a bit. Is it possible? Sure. But Kirby was close to landing at USC and UGA realized what they were about to miss and fired CMR after a 9 win season and immediately hired Kirby. It's possible UGA holds on to CMR a little longer and at that point Kirby is at Auburn for 4 years. So who the fuck knows.
After Saturday's game, Auburn has lost 5 or more games in 10 of the past 13 seasons. Wow. That is a lot worse than I had realized. Lost 4 or more in 12 of the past 13.
Pretty soft, we're in the bottom half of all of D1 and refuse to play our best defensive player #LSU Tigers How are y'all rocking at 103 in defense? You're behind Florida and South Carolina at the moment.
Yeah no idea why he doesn’t play. Ole Miss is one of the worst tackling teams I’d seen in a long time
Pretty much boils down to not really having CBs. After O's last year and Corey Raymond going to UF, we were pretty hit pretty hard between transfers out and losing out on recruits. Took a chance on transfers but pretty much all of them are out via injury or coaches decision. So now we have either true freshman or safeties trying to play CB. Oh and our best DB and captain Brooks went out with the brain tumor. Add in House apparently being fine with only rushing 4 and not getting any pass rush to let our non-CBs try to cover for an extended period....and here we are!
McGlothern has been awesome and our dumbass staff doesn’t like his attitude or something and keeps not starting him
Perkins does play, a lot. He’s just a true freshman and still pretty small to be inside or a true edge rusher. He had a huge game against Mercer and the two sacks against Alabama, but he’s been largely neutralized since. He’ll be really good, but he needs to weigh more than 200 lbs. Our biggest issue on defense is talent, which we seem to be addressing in recruiting. All of our safeties are converted corners, our linebackers are undersized, and we don’t have a true edge rusher.
If it's any relief, Raymond is either washed or our shit ass DC is using our secondary wrong. It doesn't help that we're playing 2 freshman safeties, have no LBs, and our DL creates zero QB pressure...but some promising CBs have really kinda looked like shit the entire season.
so have you guys completely written off Armstong? got to say we were all pretty pissed off losing him because everyone was really excited about the hire. I think we assumed he left after being a little pissed about having to share DC duties with Steele.
I think he's still got a lot of learning to do and the talent we still have healthy on defense, mixed with playing a number of younger guys, and his need to be overly-complicated on defense, aren't helping each other right now.
Mizzou should win this game. The one thing that concerns me is we're down our starting LBs and Mizzou has been susceptible to read options all year. Feel like KJ could get going with that.
I don’t know how good Armstrong is but this screams widespread Pete 2.0 Steele definitely simplified things for out defense, so I can see why they would have clashed.
Maybe AA has NFL aspirations down the road, where you can do this sort of thing. You get NFL vets and the best of every school that can learn multiple schemes and lead a defense and know where to be in 100 different scenarios. But when you're dealing with college underclassmen and transfers, you have the be able to to put them in position to win...and he's definitely not making the best of a bad situation with our roster currently. Our LA Fitness S&T coach isn't helping either.
