One of the secrets we heard at nausuem to Kelly's success at LSU was that he would have access to hiring the best assistant and the talent he could work with. I would be hard-pressed to find a situation where scheme, talent, and coach don't match up in as noticeable a way as I have at LSU this season. I get the feeling that up to three coaches on the defensive side of the ball may be out of a job and LSU's going to lose a good number of starters at defense going into 2024.
Did you ever get the story on what happened to Lindsey to start the season? Heard he's coming back in some part time admin role but having an actual DL coach would be a good start to 2024.
wasnt a big part of the problem that many of the portal players on defense didn’t pan out? Basically bad evals. Who is that on?
I work with my boomer dad who can't hear that great, he watches SEC shorts loud af at work every week. He never laughs. I hate it so much
What is UGAs biggest weakness? I’ve watched bits and pieces of them this year. They seem solid across the board. I was hoping their QB would be mediocre but he’s been good. Seems like if given time he always finds someone down field. Putting pressure on him will be a top priority.
I’m guessing Georgia will assume their biggest advantage is in pressuring Milroe to make bad decisions. Also their DL v our OL in both run game and pass pro. Definitely will be problematic if we get stuffed in our runs. Will be interesting to see how they handle Milroe running. Will they use a spy.
I thought they showed some weaknesses early on when they got in dogfights against South Carolina, Auburn, etc. but man they have really stepped on the gas the past month or so. Don't think they have a weakness at all.
Kinda depends on what they think of our competition since Tennessee, I tend to agree Milroe has been doing a lot of things right but the defenses haven’t been incredible.
actually our Cornerback2 is a relative weakness. been a rotation of Daylen Everette, Julio Humphrey, and some Nyland Green there. All very highly rated recruits that would start just about everywhere. But compared to the past 5 years the ball awareness has been a dropoff.
And youth at ILB due to injuries. With Dumas-Johnson out we are now significantly more athletic at ILB with CJ Allen, but he's very inexperienced and can be exploited for big plays. On the flip side he also covers a lot more ground and has done a good job the last few weeks.
Our run defense is leaky at times. It's good but far from what we've had the previous 2 years. Offense, idk. As the season has gone on it's been hard to find weaknesses in the offense. Maybe lack of elite skill guys other than Bowers and maybe Ladd??
Imo UGA is susceptible to the outside zone. But does Bama really run a zone blocking scheme?? I really don’t think they have a weakness offensively. Their strength is in their balance. Can’t really focus on shutting one guy down.
yea it could be a flare up down the road, but the trading up for a more athletic LBer has been pretty noticeable in a good way. Could pay off spying their QB. Really cant afford another injury there as I dont think Raylen Wilson or Troy Bowles are ready for primetime yet, and Xavian Sorey cant behave himself. But seeing CJ Allen makes sense why we moved out Trezman Marshall, dude is filthy.
Still not sure how Beck will react to consistent pressure. I mean no QB is great when they don't have time throw, but other than 3 sacks against Mizzou, he hasn't been pressured much this year. He makes good, quick decisions, so that's part of it. Our line wasn't great early in the year at run blocking but has stepped up, and pass protection has been great all year. Also Beck's pocket maneuverability and scrambling has been pretty impressive. All this to say our pass blocking, receiving, and QB play have been excellent all year. It'll be real hard to stop, especially if fully heahtly, but maybe not impossible if you can generate pressure.
We don’t run a ton of outside zone, but we run a lot of QB power to the edge now which has become a bit of a bread and butter play. I think we’ve got a bit of an advantage on turf with some of our speedier WR and Milroe’s proclivity for hitting the deep ball. It’ll be fascinating to see how Kirby approaches Milroe and how aggressive he is to start the game.
the champs thread is about 10 weeks removed from “Saban is washed and should retire” and “worst team since 2007” so i’m just happy we’re going to atlanta. this year has been without a doubt one of Saban‘s best coaching jobs.
I’m not sure either team is going to be able to run the ball with much success outside of Milroe scrambling, and even that’s not a certainty. I do like our front 7 matching up vs their OL, though the return of Mims is obviously a huge boost.
There have been deep balls open on our defense but not a lot of them have been hit because of errant throws. That would be a weakness somewhat
I think we’ll go deep early and often. We’ve got really good speed with Bond and Prentice and the deep ball is the one thing Milroe has excelled at all year. Just comes down to how much time we’re able to give him because the OL has improved significantly but they’ve still not had a test close to the one they’ll get vs y’all.
I would say that's the biggest question mark as I'm not sure we have seen a front 7 this good since Texas A&M. If the offensive line reverts back to their ways for the first half of the season then I'm not sure we have a chance. Proctor has improved gradually week to week and was very good against Kentucky. That has been promising as I thought he was close to getting benched early in the year. Since installing Roberts in at guard, the running game has improved significantly. Seth has been very disappointing this year but Booker and Latham have been steady all year. Basically I am not sure if Proctor's development has been a result of poor defenses or if something has in fact clicked. He's super talented so I'm hoping for the latter. That said, I'm sure there will be plays against Georgia where he looks like a high school tackle out there. He will be the number one person i'm watching on offense against Auburn. IF our offensive line holds up and keeps Milroe upright I think we will score a bunch of points. I'm just not sure what to really expect. Defense I think will be able to slow them down some but I would be shocked if Beck didn't have a big day. At this point I think the game will be pretty high scoring and will come down to a drive or two in the second half.
Our offense is probably better than last year despite losing a 1st round LT, starting QB and most of our skill guys. Defense is probably 2 notches worse. That's the team in a nutshell.
I went from not being concerned about Bama at all, to thinking they are a top two team. I hope I'm overreacting to y'all beating up on horrible defenses.
Falling behind early I keep thinking is going to bite us. Hasn't yet but ideally we won't do that against the best team we play(I"m sure we will ). If your offense isn't sharp one day then you can get into trouble quickly doing that.
