It’s wild to me that basically the entire sports podcasting industry is held up by money from gambling
probably not the thread for it but while we’re on the topic of gambling I just saw that fanduel now has “mythical matchups”. you can bet on teams not actually playing against each other. for instance UNC is -21’ over NC St this weekend. deranged stuff. ohhaithur how do I game it?
You model outcomes for both games in a monte carlo simulator and then see if you have an edge. The combined total of two teams not playing each other is insane
I think that’s backwards. It’s UNC +21. UNC -21 would just be free money. Having said that, this sounds like brazen robbery of idiots by FanDuel. You are basically betting on the outcome of two games, while getting paid for 1. You’d be better off betting them separately in almost every scenario.
that's a bit of an exaggeration. you can get both "wrong" and still win it's weird but it's not like it's impossible
Yeah, that’s why I went with “almost” every scenario. I’m still not convinced it’s that much of an exaggeration though. Sure, you can be “wrong” on both and win, but you can also be “right” on both and lose. Which one is gonna happen more often? I haven’t done the math on that, but I have a feeling it’s the latter, and even if they happen at the same rate, then they just cancel out and there is no benefit. Odds-wise this feels akin to something like a 1.5 game parlay that doesn’t pay any better than a single bet. In the long run, it’s harder than being right about just one of the games, but it’s easier than being exactly right about both of them. I could be wrong, and I might not even be understanding the MM bet correctly, but I think these should almost never be bet by themselves. Only in combination with other bets on the same game(s). The real use for these is probably as part of a hedging strategy, but that’s almost assuredly not how Joe Blow is going to use them.
Our guy gave shoes to the Bad News Bears of Green Bay HS football (probably the poorest district in the city though too)
my wife's school has AC, but it's not working in her classroom so she's stuck there all day in a room in the 80s. /personalanecdote
Don't worry. Got ya fam. The writer expresses skepticism about the value of a particular betting strategy, comparing it to a parlay bet that doesn't offer better odds than a single bet. They believe that while you can be wrong on both bets and still win, or right on both and lose, the outcomes likely cancel each other out, providing no real benefit. They suggest that these bets should be used in combination with other bets as part of a hedging strategy, rather than being placed individually.
that's the joke.gif Instead of commenting on being #1 on the overrated list, he [...] pivots to the trash talking poll results.
I heart fantasy matchups. What's the betting line on RoboCop on a pogo stick vs He-Man wearing handcuffs or Jesus with nunchucks vs a baby velociraptor?
So the 9ers didn't extend Aiyuk before camp. Then they gave his agent permission to seek trades and talk extensions with other teams. His agent found a deal with a suitor Aiyuk was willing to work with, and the 9ers kept him in a holding pattern for weeks anyway. Now they're going to try to force him to play without an extension. Am I missing something here? Or is this really the plan they're going with?
