That's a Rhoback quarter zip. Probably comped, but otherwise at least $120. He's spending his recent raise.
Is he like 6’10 or something? Also, I like to imagine Wilfong is always telling big fish stories around the office about the voicemail he left that guy.
You’ll probably steal our only chance at an elite DB from the Maryland area, again. So you have that going for you. Oh and also Elee after Maryland loses 8 games.
Jimmy Franklin will stand flat footed in the paint and perhaps get down on all 4’s to provide Lanning with the requisite boost he needs as well
Where are they getting the money these days? It's a small fan base that hasn't moved the meter in college football in 20 years
I will be zero percent surprised if somebody figures out how to launder money through NIL / paying college athletes, and the school that’s caught with the biggest version of it is Miami.
thats a "hey oregon and georgia, please up the offer a bit so i dont have to go miami" ass leak right there
When did User Clown Baby move to Carmel, and is he letting one of his kids take the mom's last name just to avoid confusion?
Now that it is legal/no fear of selective enforcement from the NCAA, our donors are ponying up. We still aren't able to spend like UGA, Bama, Oregon, and OSU though. Would make more sense when they payments were under the table but you spin a fun narrative. I mean the one thing Mario is known for coaching well and getting players into the league is OL, but you go get your cheap likes.
Last year it was in the 15-17 million range. This year it will be higher, but the people claiming 40+ million are hilariously wrong. I wish we were spending that much.
Paying Cantwell more than Miami paid Cam Ward seems like a really really dumb idea good job by Kirby though to get the UGA boosters to pony up more
Yeah that's the part I'm struggling with. Miami has outspent us for players several times and I know we're not the only ones.
but there are no lakes big enough in Coral Gables to take it out for the day and then park it when you get back
It's not adding up and idk why they act like this is a bad thing. I wish we were spending/had money like Miami. They have overpaid for kids off our commit list the last two years when they didn't even need to. UGA wasn't going to fight for Jontavius Wyman at all. They could have waited and gotten him far cheaper.
This is what a quality troll post looks like. Well played. The market is changing every year. OSU spent 20 million on their roster last season. They are allegedly spending 35+ million this year. Can't compare what a player received two years ago to determine what they receive today. Pre-NIL you could sign the #1 player in the country for 100k and a dodge charger lease. Yup. Miami is still in a position where we have to overpay to beat out the OSU's of the world. The goal is to get the program back in a position where the reputation is strong enough that being in the ballpark is enough to sway a player. We are also choosing our spots and trying to spend our money on a few impact players and counting on HS recruiting and development for the depth. That's the main difference between us and you. You have the money and rep to chase the elite talent and then get depth at a discount. We have to choose.
It doesn't add up because the public reports regarding Miami's spending are grossly inflated. Carson Beck didn't get 4 million from us. We aren't spending 40 million on our roster this year, etc. Now having the rep of being a big spender is a lot better than having a rep of being cheap/welching on NIL deals, so I'm sure Mario isn't too upset to see these reports out there. This makes the big assumption that the report is true. It almost certainly isn't because the numbers are never accurate when it comes to NIL deals. This is almost certainly what is happening with that leak. Kirby threw out a big number to pass the hat around one more time. OL development has always been a strong point for Mario. This isn't even debatable. He also now gets to say that he took a QB who was a projected 6th round pick to the #1 overall pick a year later.

Pre-NIL you could sign the #1 player in the country for 100k and a dodge charger lease. the market is changing and player acquisitions costs are going up but it's still dumb to commit a significant portion of your overall budget to a kid that by all accounts is not a plug and play tackle and won't just slide into the RT spot if Francis goes pro no questions asked Most HCs are too dumb for this stuff(even though its basic common sense) which is why we see the college GM role exploding
I don't necessarily disagree, but a lot of teams are structuring these deals with large payments in year one to get ahead of the upcoming "salary cap" I also see the merit to landing the #1 recruit. It's something you can sell to boosters to keep the faucet open in the years to come.
Miami and Oregon have the highest bids on Cantwell still fwiw. We just got close enough to make it work. That's if we get him.
For this reason I think we've been hesitant to match teams for HS OL although I think we tried with David Sanders and it still didn't matter
This is us as well but we have a big need at OT. Cantwell would play next year in some capacity if he goes to UGA. There will be a lot more late evaluations/offers on HS OL in the future.
miami fans mad that wiltdong said they have money or is it because Cantplaywell isn't going to miami? I don't follow the recruitment of good players
