Co-worker brought in this cold brew concentrate thing and I’ve got loads of work to get done so I’ve had a few after lunch to keep the mo going.

im absolutely jacked to the tits…

but im not getting much at all done because I’m on my third double decker shit of the afternoon.

So really it’s more like annoying shit I’ve done to myself at work.

I just got an updated equipment list of things I need to turn in on Wednesday. IT ops amended the list from
    2 monitors
    Laptop
    Dock
    To
    2 monitors (and power cords)
    Laptop (and power cord)
    Dock (and power cord)

Those bastards foiled my evil plot to steal all of their power cords.

So I got the job offer, salary is about three times what I’m making now and with tax incentives and housing allowance it’s more like 4 times…..and I think I’m turning it down. No hybrid/remote option, half the vacation days I have now, no sick days so illness/injury comes out of your holiday allowance, and I’d be basically resetting my UK residency….I just don’t think it’s worth making that kind of money if I’m a bad flu away from losing half my vacation days. I NEVER thought I’d turn down a paycheck like that but we’re doing ok and while the extra money would be great I wouldn’t get to use it.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this; if I need to take it elsewhere I will

I would burn ur current vaca time, take the job for a year or two and then quit with another job w better pto or negotiate it. Much easier to negotiate a week off than a 3x salary raise

I have an opening for a mid level management job that I’m hiring. Job was posted two weeks internally, communicated it was open and then closed. This week has been interviews with a panel on candidates. Female emails and texts that they didn’t apply because they didn’t know and would like it do so over a week after it is closed. Her manager gives me the whole you need to open it because she is a protected class spiel.

It just irks the shit out of me that because someone couldn’t manage their time and apply (two clicks literally) over a two week span that I now have to interview them for a role where they have shown their organization and time management are lackluster already.

Motherfucking PM bullies me into a document review today that I said on Friday I wasn’t even going to start on until tomorrow. My manager lends a helping hand so we can at least get some generic diagrams in there. Stressed me out big time but at least we got something together to review.

    Fucker didn’t even show up.

I’m sure you’re aware…. But not all protected classes get favorable treatment during the hiring process and being female doesn’t excuse someone from missing the application deadline

Funny reading about "long hair" getting in the way of a hiring process after serving on a hiring committee in the public sector. We were majorly handheld through all of the exclusionary/discriminatory pitfall stuff and that would've never flied for criteria to look past someone lol

Izzy is back folks, and this time I am the target of her wrath.

So a few weeks ago for my assistant's birthday/good friday, I brought in bagels for the office. Because nobody was in the office outside of like 5 people (two of them being Izzy and Jeff, her boss), I put the bagels on top of the cubicle divider so the assistants in that area had easy access.

As a joke and in a clearly joking tone, when Izzy went to grab one, I said "MY SIDE ONLY".

Seconds later, I followed it up and made it clear that it was a joke and told her to enjoy a bagel. (I honestly don't remember if she had one or not)

Fast forward to yesterday and one of their side's referral sources dropped off some cookies.

Joe, my boss, goes into the kitchen, sees the cookies, and goes to grab one.

Izzy pops her head in and says in a stern voice, "Those cookies are for our side only"

    Joe: What?

Izzy: If CF can bring stuff into the office and not allow us to have some, then you can't eat when cookies are dropped off for us. (She then re-tells the story from a few weeks ago and doesn't include the part where I told her I was joking)

Joe: Uhh, if CF wants to bring stuff in for only his assistant, that's his right, but this was dropped off as a gift, they are for everyone.

Izzy: THIS IS NOT OK, (goes to tell Jeff)

Jeff and Joe to me an hour or so later to me: Hey CF, Izzy is upset that you excluded her from bagels a few weeks ago. What happened?

Me: Uhhh what? I never did that.

Jeff: You brought in bagels, didn't put them in the kitchen and told her she couldn't have any. I remember that day.

Me: I was clearly joking and told her seconds after that it was a joke. (Nevermind that I bring in bagels or something roughly once a month for the entire office)

Joe: yea, that makes more sense. Izzy is deranged. (Joe really doesn't like Izzy)

Jeff: yea, this is starting to add up. Didn't think you would do something like that, but she's extremely upset with you.

Me: How is that my fault?

Jeff/Joe: It's not, but now you have to fix it.

Me: So even though I didn't do anything wrong and she has created an awkward environment for everyone by creating a feud in her own mind, I have to fix this?

    Jeff/Joe: Yes

    Me: :killme:

I work for a big international company that has experienced exponential growth in the last few years. It’s constantly lauded as a “cool” place to work, which it generally is. However the growth has out paced the expansion of HR/Payroll departments. If there is an issue, tracking someone down to resolve it is harder than getting Time Warner to fix a cable bill. There are two payroll people overseeing thousands of employee paychecks

A bunch of my team lives up in the Toronto and Ottowa area, so for our last team meeting two weeks ago we flew up to Toronto this time instead of making all of them come to the US. One of the QA Engineer people who has very recently started working with me and my team on our data lake project has lived in the Toronto area for a number of years, he's a husky Ukrainian dude. He was so excited for us to come up there and brought it up every time we had a Teams video meeting, this is in addition to him also saying how excited he is to work on the project. Very nice guy, but it became a bit much after like the tenth time of him saying these things.

During the day of our long in-person meeting, almost each time we would take a quick break I could hear him loudly say in his thick accent to a random coworker "GOOD CONVERSATIONS," you know to let them know how super awesome this meeting is going! At one point I get up to piss, the two urinals in the bathroom didn't have a divider between them and were uncomfortably close to each other. I'm about ten seconds into getting my pants down and my dick out when he barges in, sees me actively holding my dick trying to piss and saddles up next to me then then lets out a "GOOD CONVERSATIONS." He then proceeds to pee by holding both hands on his hips, like a Superman pose. I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing in his face at how absurd and hilarious this was to me since he's well meaning. The problem is now I can't stop saying loudly "GOOD CONVERSATIONS" to myself since I got back.

Dude is missing an entry in the variables file. He assures me he used the template I checked in. I show him that the entry exists in the checked in file dated 10 days ago. Later that day:

Him: I removed it because you removed it from your file.”

    Me: “I did? When?”

Him: “In the training you gave.”

Me: “I recorded that training. When did I remove it?”

    I still haven’t heard a response.

Decided to stay where I am for now but have started looking for jobs with our competitors. Deciding factor was that taking the money job would have messed with my UK visa and taken me out of the UK health system and since I’m staying here permanently I didn’t want to do that.

Back on annoying coworkers: the dead weight on my team (he has yet to make a completion target) is either leaving or being forced to leave. Huzzah! But that means I’ve been pulled off my new design (which is now being done by one of the surveyors who’s learning design…ugh) to complete one of his job packs that he’s been saying is nearly done for weeks but apparently has not even started. And every time I move to a next step I find something else that hadn’t been done properly at the high or low level design stages, which means I have to stop, do that, and integrate it into what I’ve already done. I’m supposed to have the high level design of my next project done by mid June and at this point I think it’ll take me until then to unfuck this guys project.

For our annual department meeting that is still virtual due to covid, we had to submit a photo of ourselves enjoying a hobby. A few employees from the aforementioned Asian countries have chosen work as their hobby and submitted photos of themselves at their computer :gross:

Paraphrasing - this is me at my favorite fishing pond. The drought dried it up and even when the water returned the fish were gone. I learned a powerful lesson from this
[enter me thinking it was going to be climate related]
I learned that I can’t rest on my laurels at work. It taught me that I need to be better as an employee and make changes so that I can thrive in my career and not end up like that fishless pond.

I just joined LinkedIn a few months ago specifically to look for a job. I was under the assumption that it was professional, but there’s a shit load of Facebook content like food and trips and beach bikini photos on there. It’s all yuck and I’m shutting that down once I get into my next gig.
