This a response from a friend of mine in response to SBPD police chief saying things will change when officers speak up when they see racism. She used to be a cop. In response to Chief Ruszkowzki's words, I would say this: You ask, "...where are the good cops" who should report the bad ones. Here I am, Chief. You probably don't remember me. That's ok. But know this: long before you were Chief, when you worked patrol, I *did* turn in a bad cop - a bad, white, male cop who decided to fuck with a young, black man for no apparent reason and inflict pain for no reason. I reported that asshole. Know what happened? Nothing. Well, let me clarify. Nothing happened to HIM. Plenty happened to ME, however. I was ostrasized by many white, male cops. They refused to back me up on traffic stops. They keyed their mics when I tried to transmit so that my words were inaudible. They put me in dangerous situations. They spread rumors that I was fucking every black male cop who either trained me or befriended me. THAT'S what happened. So, until this good ole boy system is fixed, nothing is going to fucking change. Yes, you do need to "do a better job of weeding out the bad ones." Might I suggest starting by better supporting those who feel likewise and then fostering an environment that creates a culture where that's the norm? Oh, and that bad cop I reported? He finally got fired...twenty years later. I wonder how many people he hurt during that time.
Honestly the most sad thing is that the town of Stone Mountain, GA (obv near the park) has a huge East African, Hatian, and other ethnic immigrant population, it's not a big white flight suburb as you'd expect outside of the perimeter. It would be so awesome to see them be the ones that get to help remove it.
#Denver Broncos Can't say I'm surprised. With John "All Lives Matter" Elway as GM. You gotta stay in line.
if you’re in the monuments should be preserved you can get fucked also seems impossible to learn from the past while celebrating the terrible people who played their part in all of this.
Settle down, bird watcher. They just want to take down the racist mural on the stone Edit: dbl went off the deep end. Team Owsley
Thinking civil war monuments should be preserved is incompatible with believing racists are bad. By definition, a monument is celebratory. By definition, the Confederacy was racist.
It was a bad joke. I was trying to get at the ridiculousness of things people are trying to be on both sides of.
I can see from a historical standpoint wanting them to be moved from out in public to inside museums but there is zero justification for them to be out in public on government-owned land
The truck driver who drove through protesters in Minneapolis was released without charges. I was an accident and he panicked... Fuck outta here
