I was reading this earlier today, almost minority report crap. Basically anyone had a frequency of crime they specifically targeted because "algorithms said to." The weird thing was that this was actually mostly white people they were targeting.

This guy was mowed down about two miles from me. 99% chance it was a revenge murder. Four cops from the local Sheriff sept fired, none of the US Marshals fired.

Just read another article saying the cops were made up of several local crews acting in accordance with the US Marshals so who knows.

As a former resident of Pasco Co let me help out.

That place is a hell hole. The only somewhat normal area is along the SR 54 Corridor from 75 to Trinity. Probably 70% of the all the wealth in that county is located in that small area. So obviously a ton of issues there because of the large wealth gap. Tons of drug and mental health issues and also it seems a good bit of property crime because of that.
We had an entire HS devoted to pregnant moms. Just a sad place full of idiots who love Trump and never leave their tiny neighborhood.

Letitia James is progressive when it’s convenient. The body cam doesn’t come out and they bury this case. It’s about time we start feeling the same vitriol for the lawyers who protect the bad cops that we do the cops who protect the bad cops. They are afraid. They act like this is Columbia/Mexico and they are going after drug traffickers.

Bc police get sent to all kinds of shit that shouldn't require someone with a gun. I wish the "Defund the Police" would have been labeled "Reallocate the Funds" so people would understand that its purpose is to take funds away from guys running around playing pew pew and instead have people more well equipped to deal with situations like this one. A mental health expert/Dr should be the one responding, not someone with a gun.

People can't grasp that taking funds from the Police doesn't mean Police won't be available. In fact, having other people available to help on mental health calls and traffic issues means the smaller police force will actually just deal with crime and can be better trained to do that. We've made Police a one stop shop for anyone calling for help and it shouldn't be that way. Of course Police depts/unions don't want that bc it would mean less of them.

No knock warrants and chokehold bans are in various bills right now as well and being worked on. The senate is being slightly trickier than the HoD but I do think they'll pass some police reforms in this session.

Wasn't aware of the record expunging bill until I read the article, that one makes me really happy. They took a big step in that direction earlier when they decriminalized weed and sealed all convictions related to it so employers couldn't stick their nose where it doesn't belong, the removal of a lot of minor crimes after proven rehabilitation could be huge for people.

Rochester police chief and entire command staff retire/resign following video of Daniel Prude death

On March 23, in Rochester, New York, a naked and unarmed 41-year-old Black man named Daniel Prude died while being detained by Rochester Police Department officers. RPD officers Mark Vaughn, Troy Taladay, and Francisco Santiago were responding to calls from Prude’s brother, Joe Prude, that Daniel was having some kind of “mental health crisis.” On Sept. 2, almost six months after Daniel died, body camera video was finally released to the public, and it told a very disturbing story. The video showed police arresting a naked Prude, putting a bag over his head, mocking him, and then putting their weight on him, pressing him to the floor, as Prude gasped his final breaths.

Prude was declared braindead upon arrival at a local hospital and died on March 30, after he was taken off of life support by his family. On Tuesday, following days of protests, Police Chief La'Ron Singletary retired, along with Deputy Chief Joe Morabito and Commander Fabian Rivera. Deputy Chief Mark Simmons and Commander Henry Favor reportedly were demoted to their previous ranks as lieutenants. Singletary was a 20-year veteran while Morabito had been with the RPD for 34 years. Mayor Lovely Warren made the announcement during a virtual town hall meeting Singletary was scheduled to show up at, but did not. “The chief has felt that his career and his integrity has been challenged,” Warren said during the announcement.

In a statement, Singletary said, “As a man of integrity, I will not sit idly by while outside entities attempt to destroy my character. The events over the past week are an attempt to destroy my character and integrity." Singletary went on to blame a “mischaracterization and the politicization of the actions that I took after being informed of Mr. Prude's death,” saying what was being said was “not based on facts, and is not what I stand for."

Warren said she had not asked for the police chief’s resignation. News outlets pointed to Mayor Warren’s statement last week that "l have addressed with Police Chief La'Ron Singletary how deeply disappointed I am in him personally and professionally for failing to fully and accurately inform me about what occurred to Mr. Prude. He knows he needs to do better to truly protect and serve our community and I know he will."

Last week, Warren suspended seven officers involved with the arrest, as state Attorney General Letitia James said she would be forming a grand jury to investigate this nine-month-old case. On Tuesday, Warren told reporters that she expected more resignations.

Singletary may be correct that the public doesn’t have the full story regarding the corruption of the law enforcement apparatus and judicial process in Rochester, New York, especially in regard to Black people and their human rights. But the idea that his made-up sense of integrity and character shouldn’t be impugned after he sat silently for months, seemingly handing out zero punishments to his officers or information to the Prude family when it came to this citizen’s inhumane treatment and death, is only laughable if that will hurt his feelings.

At the same time, the Prude family is suing the city of Rochester, now-former police chief Singletary, as well as Simmons, Favor, Vaughn, Taladay, and Santiago, as well as other law enforcement officials and officers involved in Daniel Prude’s death. The family is asking a federal court to make the Rochester Police Department reform its process for investigating incidents in which officers use force.

"In the video, Runnels pulls Bryce over and approaches the car. He tells Bryce to get out but doesn’t give a reason. Bryce repeatedly asks if he is under arrest. Runnels says, “You’re under arrest. Get your ass out of the car,” and attempts to pull him out by force. He then tases Bryce for 23 seconds, handcuffs him, drags the boy’s body behind the car, and deliberately drops him face first onto the asphalt road. Runnels may not have known it at the time, but Bryce was going into cardiac arrest. When the loud thud of the drop boomed throughout the courtroom, gasps echoed out. One woman looked down and covered her eyes with her hand. A man said, “Oh, my god.” A police officer with the Kansas City Police Department quickly brought his fist to his mouth, turned to the man next to him, and whispered, “Jesus.” Even those sitting behind the defendant — a few friends, his wife, his family — gasped, as if the recording revealed a truth about Runnels they had never considered."

    https://theintercept.com/2016/06/07...-8-minutes-now-facing-a-lifetime-of-recovery/

The Independence Police Department was hardest on him. Once Bryce learned to drive again, Independence squad cars followed him several times, sometimes even pulling up next to him so the officers could smirk or wave. On one occasion, he said, he was out bowling when two officers approached him and sarcastically asked how he was doing.

Matt, Stacy, and Bryce all said that the harassment has become worse. Bryce was recently ticketed for allegedly going 80 mph in a 40 mph zone by an officer who claimed he had paced the car to determine its speed instead of using a radar gun. Bryce denied he was going anywhere near that fast. Even on the night of Runnels’ sentencing, Bryce said, he was followed by an Independence squad car for at least 3 miles. In another incident, a police cruiser blocked him in; a few nights later he was pulled over. The Independence Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.
