GF has been wanting me to find a game that both of us can play co-op (that isn't boring or terrible for me to endure) for like a year now. Pretty Sure BG3 is gonna be that game. At least I'll be able to grind out a game regularly without catching shit for being in the man cave. Turn-based combat sounds like something the Gf could do without too many complications.
Tried watching some YT build videos today and god damn there's a lot to take in with this game. Hoping to get a little bit of guidance from any veterans here or people that have played around with variety in the EA period. I'm going to be 100% responsible for the leveling of both mine and the GFs characters (and replaying with a 2nd character for either of us is probably a 0% unless it's years from now so wanna make the first one count) and there's too much out there for me to sift through. I'd like to do an Arthur Dayne type high damage, dual-wield, melee character. Big damage (not necessarily "can 1-shot almost anything") but damage being the primary focus, with limited mobility, survivability and maybe some self healing. From limited research it sounds like Fighter (no idea which sub class), Ranger Knight?, Rogue and Paladin are the best bets here? GF I need something that's got range and survivability, and probably uses magic and has good support. She'll most likely play very little by herself so not a ton of focus on damage output, but having 1-2 options for big damage when need be would be a nice bonus. And semi-important... a class that's not complicated to use. If there's a class out there that has a fairly generic and routine skill move set that applies to most general encounters that's the one. I have a feeling she'll lean into something magic related as a big Harry Potter fan (and all the fantasy shows with females being the witches supporting knights). Any suggestions on what classes to look more in depth into, I can look through sub-classes and probably piece some stuff together. Would be nice to have those for starting points to look, and also what classes completely do not apply to these so I can at least rule some out and save myself some time on youtube.
youtube may be much more helpful if you search for dnd 5e builds rather than bg3 builds. for her, easy answer is cleric. some heals, some buffs, some good damage spells. i dont remember which cleric subs made it into the game but i do remember it was a good few of them so theres probably some options. abjuration wizard is another decent option but its a bit more complicated. for you, thats a bit more difficult. high damage and dual wield in the same build is pretty difficult to pull of with the starting stats we get. maybe multiclassing hexblade warlock and your choice of paladin is the right move. couple levels of sorcerer or bard can go a long way to help rounding out that build.
may initial thought after a very basic look into stuff that a fighter with the rogue multi-action added in would be cool. Definitely would like to stick to the dual wield setup
i'm not sure what the rogue would add in the realm of extra attacks but it would certainly add a lot of utility. if we're talking solely number of attacks something like fighter/gloomstalker ranger/monk would be the best we can do with the current level cap. i would have to look at what the splits would be. i can put together a level progression plan for you if you'd like.
Gonna spend some time with the Bard and Assassin classes this weekend as well as a Warlock and Wizard build. No longer considering Paladin because I will 100% break my oath
from what I read (correct if wrong) if you multiclass with Rogue you get +1 action, which would actually be an additional attack with primary + secondary weapon for 4 total attacks per turn?
thats not the case in dnd but they could have added it. one of fighters most powerful abilities is to take an extra action once per short rest so giving rogue a permanent extra action would be some crazy powercreep. fighter gets extra attack at 5, and monk can make two attacks as a bonus action (on a limited basis). i believe fighters get their third attack at 11 so straight fighter could be the better call in the long run.
Have they confirmed I can roll 2 level human fighter and max wizard to upcast fireball action surge upcast fireball?
Not true, those rules don’t apply to action surge. Example 4 in link https://koboldpress.com/mastering-t...u can cast fireball (a,rules don't affect you. In 5e I’ve actually never played a straight class fighter, but I have used and DM’d for many power-gamer builds abusing 2 levels of fighter multi class dip for action surge abuse
I re-installed it, giving a go tonight and I have no idea what I'm doing but this is pretty fun. I have no dnd experience.
don't forget you can use reaction spells with that too. fireball, silvery barbs one who makes the save, then another action spell. or counterspell a counterspell. however, rules as written, if you bonus action spell the only other spells you can cast on your turn are action cantrips thus you can't reaction spell on your turn if you use bonus action spell. (none of this applies to bg3 because that rule simply doesn't exist in the game and you can throw spells freely)
Big fan of his builds, he’s kinda running out of steam recently so good to see him get new life with bg3
a lot of his recent builds have effectively been improved versions of old builds which is nice to see. luckily for him, we're only a year away from a major shakeup in 5e theory crafting.
I’m just gonna end up as a human rogue I know it I’m not cool maybe I’ll do half elf because I’m mixed race
The options and details in this game are completely and totally overwhelming. Character creation is sooooooo good.
Download completed and my work day is over. Using all of my willpower to go workout before I play this all day
Didn't start downloading until around 12, and it says I have 5.5 hours left. This was easily avoidable, and the blame doesn't fall on Larian.
Just set my all time best 5k at 26 mins and 48 seconds. The download has been completed, I’m not doing shit but playing until I pass out now
It took multiple hours to download 20%, but now the speeds have fixed and the last 80% will be done in 30 minutes. I don't even understand steam's thinking with sticking with their no preload for early access games.
