I know they have conflicts, but their pro-genocide of Muslims view would likely unite them when it’s all said and done.
The executive branch and agencies are being overhauled. Trump's administration didn't fill a lot of positions, and those they did they were with loyalists. Biden can't make Congress pass legislation.
A lot of it starts at the top. Biden can go on TV every day of the week and most networks/cable will cover every word. With the laundry list of issues that needs addressing, you have to start fighting earlier than summer/fall.
The Senate is another reason that Beyer stepping down right now is bad. Could you imagine the shitshow it would be trying to fill that spot with anyone resembling a liberal pick? I expect the hope i that Dems pick up +2 next year then really pressure him.
Right you don't need a super liberal on the Supreme Court. You don't get extra good decisions because 1 member is more progressive than another. You just need someone that will vote with the other liberal justices most of the time.
We have Senators holding onto tradition despite a war on voting rights. I don't trust those people to approve at a competent Justice?
You're right, keep fighting the super progressive fight as the nation descends into right wing fascism because best is the enemy of the good. At least we'll have those spicy progressive memes
Dude, come on. Can you point to a single piece of legislation held up by a Progressive? This is bad, even for you. I mean Jesus dude
We just had a post saying Breyer shouldn't retire because we won't get a super liberal justice appointed. What will actually happen in this scenario is we'll end up with yet another conservative justice because Breyer is about to turn 83 in 2 months.
How is putting a fresh SCOTUS nominee on the bench - when you have the votes - "the enemy of the good"?
The post clearly said Breyer stepping down now is bad, reason being they won't get a super liberal justice. Thats exactly the enemy of the good.
So the thought here is that a Progressive Senator (is there another other than Bernie) will vote no on a SCOTUS pick because he isn't Progressive enough? I just don't get the point being made.
I have a hard time trying to make out his point there tbh Is he saying they'd only get a more moderate through with the current 50 vote alignment + there's also political suicide risk in putting up a controversial pick (when in reality any Dem pick will be controversial given media ecosystem) right before midterms? But I dont see how earning political capital + then using said capital is the enemy of the good. Thats pretty much governance. Punting until after the next federal election seems like malpractice.
I feel like even the most moderate of mentioned Dem SCOTUS picks will check the boxes for progressives. Its a vote tabulation game. They all count equal. Anyone Biden puts up is going to score a point on the desired side of the scoreboard. And its not like they can call shots on which policy agenda cases get to their office. Skeptical that any of the speculated front runners would pull a reverse Souter.
i thought he’s saying the Dems won’t muster 50 votes on any non-conservative light justice. So we should wait until the Dems have a larger majority on the senate and we can get a really progressive Justice
this was exactly the point I was making and someone said this is a terrible take because the progressives here hate winning
This looks more like you looking a point you wanted to make possibly finding a home for it. You have said twice that you aren’t sure of the point he is making but you were quick to throw your take on an unsure point.
he’s pretty clearly saying the current make up of the senate will not allow a liberal enough justice to be confirmed and wants to wait until the Dems pick up more seats in the senate to pressure Breyer to retire
Will be interesting when instead of presenting a Rep vs Dem counterfactual, a teacher provides a right vs wrong counterfactual, gets fined, and wins the court case.
This was not something I was aware of regarding the medical system. They don’t make this obvious of course.
Didn’t see this posted yet, but Biden has nominated more minority judges in four months than Trump appointed in four years, today’s WAPO.
My wife works in a hospital. This is posted all over her hospital in both English and Spanish along with the posters about doctors not being able to refuse service based on charity care status. Es la le!
I used to chuckle at CNN debates that literally had sound effects that were made to sound like punch combinations as they came in and out of commercial
That’s good to hear. I, knock on wood, have spent very little time in hospitals. Still, I think many or most poor people have an aversion of using even the ER in a life threatening situation because they’re afraid of going into serious medical debt.
Would love seeing cinnamon and Manchin hold up even a widely regarded mainstream pick like Garland. Gee that’d be neat. Clearly, Breyer should retire now. But damn do I have our legislature.
Pilots wouldn’t really matter between us and China; it’s all about the missiles and point defense, baby.
the problem is they can’t control their own viruses, you think they can contain their AI? This is how skynet happens.
The people who refuse to acknowledge that the Republican Party tried to overturn the election sure are a self important whiny bunch
