Sounds like after that court ruling, collectives ability to pay to play is going away and they are trying to make NIL back into what it was intended to be.
I don't think I have ever been this optimistic about a football/basketball program. Specifically these upcoming seasons. Two legit title contenders with two of the smartest coaches in the business.
My buddy in Wisconsin just got tickets for the game at Camp Randall. Sitting around the 10-15 yard line 9 rows up in the upper deck behind Wisconsin’s sideline. Going to be a fun game.
For those looking for tickets, whatever tickets are left are set for a public sale Monday morning on the UW site. https://uwbadgers.evenue.net/events/FS
On3 wrote an article today talking about Deboer pushing for the #1 class...did not have that on my bingo card 3 months ago
Imma need someone to post this shit https://www.on3.com/news/alabama-football-recruiting-top-class-kalen-deboer/
Alabama has On3’s No.3 ranked recruiting class and are well positioned for several more top targets as Kalen DeBoer and his staff push for the No. 1 class in the land. Who could be next to jump in the fold? What other prospects do the Crimson Tide staff ultimately have a great chance to sign? On3 dives into DeBoer and company’s strong efforts on the trail? Which prospect commits next? We’re looking at Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley On300 linebacker Dawson Merritt. The Crimson Tide have led since the spring for Merritt, but Nebraska has stayed alive in that recruitment and gave the blue-chipper pause a couple times. Sounds like Alabama has steadied those waters. The On3 Industry tabs Merritt as the No. 87 prospect in the country. He ranks as the No. 7 linebacker in the land per the On3 Player Rankings. I think the scheme fit at Alabama is one of the things that stands out most to Merritt and continues to give them the edge. BamaOnLine has more on Merritt here. Merritt isn’t the only coveted player Alabama has momentum for. Alabama building a special offensive line class The buzz currently favors the Crimson Tide for Denton (Texas) Ryan five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood. There was a time where that belonged to Oklahoma, but Haywood didn’t take his trip to Norman last weekend in what came as a surprise. Texas A&M has had Haywood on campus a couple times this spring/summer and they’re a contender, but sources with knowledge of the recruitment seem to believe the official visit to Alabama earlier this month has them in pole position going into this weekend’s official visit to Florida State. Alabama is putting together what could very well be the nation’s top offensive line haul. In addition to Haywood, the intel favors the Crimson Tide for Mobile (Ala.) Vigor On300 offensive lineman Micah DeBose. LSU and Ohio State are two others he’s high on. Debose takes his official this weekend. When looking purely at the On3 player rankings, they already have a pledge from the No. 1 prospect in California and nation’s No. 6 offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd who they beat Ohio State and USC for. On3’s No. 2 interior offensive lineman Michael Carroll is also in the fold choosing the Crimson Tide over Michigan, Georgia and Penn State. Carroll is the No. 27 overall prospect in the country and Lloyd checks in at No. 29. Haywood is On3’s No. 8 prospect nationally. DeBose is the No. 11 interior offensive lineman. In-state commit Mal Waldrep rounds out what would be a five-man class DeBoer and offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic would be ecstatic about. On the hunt for playmakers Receiver is one of the bigger needs down the stretch, and many of the elite guys are high on Alabama. Sachse (Texas) High’s Kaliq Lockett was on campus earlier this week for his official visit and talking to the family it was a huge needle mover. “My takeaway from this Alabama visit is Tuscaloosa is an absolutely wonderful place,” Lockett’s father Kobi said. “The city and the campus is filled with awesome people. My viewpoint of the Alabama staff is the same. Coach Kalen DeBoer has a brilliant mind, not just with football but his views on life and people. He’s one of those coaches that is very hands on in recruiting. He comes from behind the desk and gets active in building relationships. He’s willing to unveil the mask and show who he really is as a person. He also surrounds himself with other great coaching minds which reflects his overall head coach record of 104-12. “JaMarcus Shephard the wide receivers coach is another great mind who is an expert in every position on the football field. Coach Shep is one of those coaches who challenges his player’s football IQ. He leaves no stones unturned when it comes to all the situations a receiver might find themselves in within a game. He informed Kaliq that if he comes there ready to go to work he has the chance to see the field as freshman. Overall it was a fantastic visit and according to Kaliq they’re very much in the race for his commitment come August.” Alabama is battling Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Florida State for Lockett, who has also mentioned he’s excited to potentially play with Crimson Tide quarterback commit Keelon Russell on the next level. Russell is fresh off winning the Elite 11 Finals throwing next to the top passers in the country. It was a performance by Russell that will show his peers the potential they have lining up in the same offense with him. Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake On300 receiver Travis Smith Jr. took his official visit last weekend. At one point considered a huge Georgia lean, Smith could very well land at Alabama or Tennessee as things stand now. “The Bama visit was great,” Smith said. “I really got a chance to hang with staff, primarily Coach Shephard and OC. Shephard’s energy is on 10 at all times which brings the best of the guys around him. They made a big emphasis on why they want and need me at Bama. Biggest takeaway was their offensive and defensive staff engagement with me on my potential to be successful like Rome Odunze and JaLynn Polk etc.” This weekend On3 Industry five-star Caleb Cunningham and the No. 1 recruit in Nevada in Derek Meadows come to campus for their official visits. The Crimson Tide aim to move on Auburn and Florida for Cunningham while Notre Dame has had the momentum for Meadows for much of his process. His spring visit to Tuscaloosa was an eye-opener. More elite names to know and potential flips to watch Others Alabama is at the top or near the top for include On3 Industry five-star cornerback Dijon Lee (battling Georgia), the nation’s No. 6 edge rusher Justin Hill (battling Ohio State), while certainly in the to flip a few blue-chippers in running back Akylin Dear from Ole Miss, defensive back Ivan Taylor from Notre Dame and tight end Marshall Pritchettfrom North Carolina. They’ll keep swinging on five-stars like in-state cornerback and Ohio State commit Na’eem Offord and weekend visitor defensive lineman Justus Terry. BamaOnLine has a feature on five targets they’re watching which includes insight on the recruitment of coveted defensive lineman Josiah Sharma who Courtney Morgan has been leading the charge for.
My productivity has been way down at work this week as I try to keep track of Husky Harsin who is cruitin' his fucking ass off all over the country. Gat damn!
Micah DeBose will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend for his official visit, and based on the intel we are getting heading into this trip, we are ready to make our commitment prediction: Alabama.
Late on the reply but for the last few years I have thought there was way too much talent on the roster to be as undisciplined and play as they did sometimes. If Debo can recruit 75% of what Saban could with his scheme and a competent DC it’s going to be 2010’s era Bama again all over.
Things are going well. Would be great to splash a top 10 guy, but I think Keelon might end up there with that release and accuracy
I think the offensive playcalling was mediocre at best with half the OCs (BoB, McElwain was ok, Nussmeier was ok, Applewhite was not good) and the defensive coaching after Kirby left was mediocre at best at times (Pete was downright bad). So I agree with you, if CDB is an elite offensive mind and gets pretty good output from the defensive staff, he can do more with less. We wouldn’t need the #1 class every year. Probably could win natties with top 3 or top 5 classes.
I love the enthusiasm but man I feel like some of yall are in for a reality check. We just lost the greatest coach of all time guys. Thinking the new guy with 1 good season is going to do more with less than the GOAT is pretty ambitious. I love how well DeBoer has picked up the baton, but he's not an X and O guru that's going to scheme up top 10 classes to win natties. Recruiting is still going to be the most important part of the job. Thankfully he seems to be keeping that machine rolling so far.
counterpoint it ain’t 1982 plenty of other teams have kept on trucking through turnover Ohio state has been good for like the last 40 years
Right, I'm not saying we can't keep it trucking. Not quite at Saban's level bc that's never happened before and probably wont again but we can still be an elite program and competefor titles more often than not. I just don't think it'll be bc the new coach is a savant that can win with less. Even osu had some down years in the 90s and 00s. And Luke Fickell happened.
I hear you, that’s realistic. But, we going undefeated and winning it all this year. And Milroe winning the Heisman.
Your point is correct. We could be OSU and dominate recruiting and still not win a title for years. Now I believe Debo will win at least one title but anybody expecting another Saban run is nuts. What he did was unprecedented
Just remembered that we won’t have to watch Sam Walters this year. 2024-2025 will be amazing. Undefeated football season Trump elected Undefeated basketball season
Sure, but not a level where he's going to regular win nattys with back end top 10 classes. Nobody is. I mean, Saban was as good at X's and O's on defense as we've ever seen and spent 10 years with great DC's and had two of the best offensive minds in the game at OC. Our old staffs didn't just win bc they had top talent, we had really really good coaches too. Thinking this staff is going to be better at X's and O's than those is absurd imo. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited with this transition but thinking DeBoer and company are going to be able to win with less considering what we had his wild imo. I really think some fans have lost all perspective of just how good we've been for 17 years.
He's proven the ability to do more with less and understands matchups, scheming, and developing players quite well. I don't think any reasonable Bama fan expects the run like Saban had to continue. That said, I don't anticipate this massive drop off like most are expecting. My concern was recruiting and that appears (at least early on) to be a heavy emphasis for him and this staff.
More with less than who? The average staff? Agree. Saban staffs? Disagree. Saban's staffs during the prime were some of the best we've ever seen. The original question was "Can Debo win natties with less talent than Saban had?" No, I don't think he can. Maybe 1 with an elite QB but not consistently be in the huny. We'll need top 3 classes. Thankfully it looks like we made still be getting those. I don't think we're going to 8-4 regularly but I think anyone reasonable should expect a decent dropoff based on the fact nobody has ever had a run like we just had. I think we'll go from clear #1 program to more like in a group with 3-4 as one of the top programs and in contention more often than not, just not every single year like under Saban. I mean go back and count the number of games we played in 15 years that we had no path to a title. It's not many. It was just an incredible run.
Debo literally just had a title run (better than the team saban just had with like 3 No 1 classes) with much worse talent. You’re underselling his X/O ability imo
