I believe we used to run a zone blocking scheme most of the time which allows for that. You’re looking for a crease and exploding through the gap. Our run scheme now has a ton of pulls, counters, etc. and requires a RB to exercise patience at the line to allow his blocks to set up. When run cohesively our current run scheme can be deadly. Unfortunately we currently have a bunch of OL that aren’t a great fit for the current scheme and we are not a cohesive unit. It seems one guy doesn’t get his block on every run and that one guy makes the tackle bc our backs can’t break tackles.
Last night was the longest regulation basketball game I've ever been to. Was honestly unwatchable in the 2nd half. Some takeaways though: -We are really good, even when we're not. A lot of the shit happening in the 2nd half won't happen in a real game (constant and blatant fouling and no foul outs). The kid for Memphis that scored 30+ technically fouled out with 12 minutes to go and then he went on his scoring rampage. -Memphis is really athletic and have some really good players. But they can't shoot. -Philon will start. Kid is a gamer and his basketball IQ is insane. -Laugh all you want, but watch...Mo D is turning into Herb. Can guard 1-5, always around the ball, is a menace on D, and starting to find some offensive identity. -Cliff - thank you for coming here. -Reid - absolute unit. -Stevenson has bulked up some but still plays timid at times. I think he forgets he's 7 feet. My projected start 5: Sears Philon Reid Porn Stache Cliff
the roster is so deep oats can afford to both 1. sit players who are a little banged up and 2. distribute minutes based on matchup. it's a weird situation for us.
We’ve seen several staffs over the years have a lot of success during the summer, and the class fall apart at the finish line. This is what separated guys like Saban, Kirby, and even Meyer from the rest of the pack.
I want to devote a little time to how awful it is to watch Kobe Prentice. Can't catch, can't block, and falls down any time someone gets within 3 feet of him.
Saw this posted on BOL, obviously there’s no comparison between the 2, but Downs isn’t having such a great season. Added Sabb just to see where he was at
So we might have one year with Ryan Williams and it was wasted with Milroe? I hope he sticks around for Keelon
Cause he will be the biggest free agent in college football, and if somebody dangles 5 mil at you, you not going to listen?
I mean we aren’t poor. We aren’t going to just let our best players walk if that’s what college football is going to be.
I don’t think we are poor, but I also don’t think we have the kind of money places like Texas, Oregon, OSU have to throw at these kids. We certainly didn’t match what Downs got.
I don't like your negativity lately and your veiled hints at potential doom. You need to get on board the Debo Train and buckle the fuck up
On the other hand, I don't think that we're gonna have to deal with a situation like the fallout of Saban's retirement and the accompanying special transfer window every off-season. If you want to act like that wasn't at least a somewhat unique situation, whatever, but I think we should maybe give Debo a full season before we decide the sky is fully falling. Again I say, pull yourself together
We got a shit ton of NIL when Saban retired . Even without that, we are a major NIL player. We would have paid Downs the same $ that Ohio St paid him. His dad 100% was the reason he didn't stay at Alabama, wasn't an NIL issue.
lol I can respect this opinion, and I don’t think the sky is falling. I’m just saying we are in a new era of college football free agency
No one is going to offer him anything close to 5m and you know that as well as anyone. Just trying to stir up the masses.
I really do think before Debo heads to the NFL he’ll deliver us a couple of championships. The current roster was built for an entirely different system. Let him get his guys in and we’ll be cooking. As for Ryan Williams I was just fucking around. That kid is a bammer through and through. Plus I think he gets so much ass from sexy bama sorority chicks that he’s hooked.
Man I didn’t think Downs would get the 2-3 million dollars he got either, or Caleb Williams getting 5 mil at USC. It’s just not worth it
Yep. The only time we’ve had a single player that literally carried the team to championship was Derrick Henry. We’ve won championships with DeAndrew White at WR
DeAndrew White was a stud and IMO would have killed it in a different era of CFB but I get your point
DeAndrew White was a relatively highly recruited player. Was excited about landing him out of TX. Had a somewhat disappointing career relative to my expectations for him. But as noted, had some meaningful contributions as well.
A better example or statement would have been that we've won natties with Darius Hanks and Marquis Maze as receivers.
My point is a line up of DeAndrew White, Kevin Norwood, Darius Hanks, Kenny Bell, etc. ain't Ryan Williams.
I think me shitting on some of those dudes early in their career was the beginning of the "snakes write off" meme
