I see people calling Penn St a fraud. They really didn't beat a good team during the regular season. And they had by far the easiest path in the playoffs. They were a pretty good team. Not sure they deserved to be in the semis. Felt like they had a super easy path into it. And Franklin still can't win a game that matters.
I don’t think fraud is the right term. They were like 5 min away from going to the ship so it’s not like they got blown out and exposed. As you mentioned, Franklin just shits himself anytime he gets close to a big win
All I will say after last night is that this really has been a big down year for QB play overall in college. As bad as I can recall collectively by the guys considered the better ones. Wrong year to have a high top draft pick and need a QB.
There is no 2019 LSU, 2020 Bama, etc. this year. Just looking at this year alone, I actually thought Penn State looked pretty good. They had the equivalent of a bad Milroe game and lost a game they could have won. Looked eerily familiar. Their defense is legit. They've got great athletes too. Franklin has done a really good job IMO.
there is unlikely to ever be a team as good as 2020 Bama or 2019 LSU again. the rules have changed things.
I agree. I'm just pointing out that what we saw out of Penn State last night is about as good as it gets in the current climate.
it was awesome. and yes i think Franklin silenced a lot of haters. hIs quarterback threw an absolutely inexcusable throw late that cost them a chance to go to the natty. I know they had a favorable road but a win is a win and they do not remotely deserve the term "fraud", especially from fucking Bama fans. get a grip Gump!
I mean I don't know about that. We should aspire to be much better than that. Just not something to expect every season. I still expect those magical seasons where everything lines up, but I also expect seasons like this one where you just don't have it.
I don’t think he silenced any haters. Whether it’s his fault or not, your record is your record, and he’s still a very good coach who can’t win the big one. And he’s not going to have a better team, or path, than the did this season.
agree to disagree. winning a couple of playoffs games counts for something, even if it was Boise and SMU. Can't help but think Deboer and Milroe would have found a way to lose one of those games.
we have a real playoff now. rng will be a much larger contributor for determining a champ. success will need to be redefined.
It’s just banter. And dunking on losing teams is one of life’s simple pleasures, even if your team sucks too.
In my defense, I was falling asleep around 9PM which I think was early 3rd quarter . Turned it off and got in bed.
Came here to post this. We weren't a fraud this year. We just sucked. Also I think we still might have had better wins than Penn State
For much of my fandom, ND has been at best tolerable most seasons. Freeman has made ND more than tolerable to kinda enjoyable for me. In no small part because of how Brian Kelly must feel about all of this. And I don’t think it’s much self-reflecting he’s doing.
Or Notre Dame. I don't dislike him, but just because he's there I can't let myself like him. Would like to see him go somewhere else. Clearly a very good coach, though still way behind offensively. I still don't understand how they lost to NIU.
Remaining independent is brilliant; they’re idiots if they ever change that. Zero revenue sharing is going to pay massive dividends in the new CFP landscape.
The head coach for NIU knew what ND was going to do. After the game, Hammock (NIU head coach) and Freeman went over what NIU saw on tape.
For a while, they were really the only school that had an argument for being historically better than us. It used to piss off a young admiral
