Interesting turn when I went to cut Comcast. After I asked to just keep the internet they reduced my bill by $20 more than expected if I kept part of my channels. So went from $150/month to $80/month and kept something...progress...
Not necessarily, they did the same thing for me without a contract about a year ago. I had to sign up for the internet/phone double play package, which was $20 cheaper than standalone 75Mb internet. Would have been $30 cheaper w/contract. Have never hooked up a phone, naturally.
No contract, rate is good for a year. Internet by itself was $80/month before taxes. I was somewhat looking forward to not having TV and relying on Netflix/Amazon, but this will do.
Nice. Here comcast is locking people in to multi year contracts to make it harder to switch to Google fiber
Upgraded to 100d/30u 5g runs like a boss. Near the router I get max speeds. Most rooms get about 60+ Obv the closer the better. 2.5g is 30/30 no matter where I am. Wtf.
DTV has to be the worst. When we cut it, I asked them for a month to remove that monstrosity satellite dish. They never sent one. I climbed the roof and sold that shit for scrap.
I called and cancelled in Dec. They still charged me for Dec and January bc they actually didnt cancel it. I had to call back to cancel again and they're holding my $160 until they receive they're equipment which has been over a month sent I sent it off. One lady said they'd send me a gift card for the amount and another said they'd credit it back. Still haven't gotten any money back. Fucking hate that company.
Thanks for this. Subscribed Wednesday and have been really happy with it so far. Do you do anything different for the guide part of it? I know there are ways to get the full guide and not just the games/sporting events listed.
We canceled cable about a month ago and I'm going to be signing up for MLBtv once baseball season rolls around, is there a board preferred VPN setup to get around the blackouts?
I use PIA and you can choose different cities where your IP address comes out of. Haven't tried it with MLB TV though.
I only use it for sports. I have PS Vue so I can record any other cable shows. I do like the guide in Kodi. I don't like the format of their web player guide, it lists all 100 channels but only has content listed on around 10 channels.
Yeah, we have PS Vue too, but was thinking about getting rid of it since this pretty much takes care of everything.
So my AT&T/DirecTV contract is about to end. Currently paying $160/month for crappy internet (18 mbps is the best at&t can get in my location) and a lot of TV channels (no premium channels though). Comcast has an offer for 300 mbps internet for $70/month. It also comes with like 10 TV channels, which is just the major networks, I'm pretty sure. I'm thinking of switching and just streaming everything through our AppleTV, firestick, etc. Can I theoretically just use my parent's comcast login to access WatchESPN so that I can stream the sports I want to watch? That's my biggest concern of doing all this. The other catch: the Comcast offer is a 3-year contract. However, according to all the fine print, the $70 price is constant throughout the three years, it's not one of those $70 for the first 12 months offers that they screw people on. Any thoughts?
Yeah, that's why I was really intrigued. I'm not even sure I need Internet that fast, as I've been dealing with 18 from at&t for a while, so the thought of 300 is crazy to me.
I would jump on that 300 mbps offer if you dont have any other potential options in the foreseeable future (i.e. Google Fiber)
Anyone use those HD Antennas for local channels? Moving to a new house and flirting with cord-cutting. I have my parents logins for HBO, SHO, ESPN etc. I have a lot of my own media on a plex server and have Netflix as well.
I'm south of Nashville, so theoretically I might have a Google Fiber option before my three-year contract is up. But based on how slow google fiber is moving in this area, I doubt it. I'm probably gonna jump on it.
Same for us I believe. I have had a hard time convincing her to cut, but now I think I am on to something.
Did you have to get a crazy one or just one of these that was 30 bucks? Did you have to put it on your roof? I'm 5 minutes from downtown Birmingham and hoping it won't be too bad.
I have no idea how YouTube can offer that package for $35/month. They have an incredible ad structure already in place, so that helps, but I still don't get it.
Google doesn't care about turning a profit at first. Just like everything in their biz model it's about attracting users and engagement
Got the basic leaf brand for like $50 I live in downtown Atlanta and just have it stuck behind my TV hanging on my wall. From there I get like 25 channels....if I want more I put it up next to my window and can get close to 40 but I live in a hotspot. Its very reliable for my local national affiliates and I use it for my local channel that carries ACC basketball games. Makes me wish WTBS was still the national feed out of here.
Ok I am moving here pretty soon and renting out my house. The tenants will be keeping my direct tv...is slingbox my best option to mooch off that direct tv at my new location? I mainly want to keep it for NFL Sunday Ticket. Any help/guidance would be really appreciated Houndster I saw your post early itt...how has your experience been with slingbox? Anybody else who has used it...feel free to weigh in as well
I don't use it too much anymore. It's not high definition quality, at least for my connection, so I use it as a last resort or to watch on mobile.
I've been cable free since moving to my new house 6 months ago. Pay $70 for AT&T Fiber at 1 GB. I say all that to say that streaming on my Nvidia Shield has been amazing using Kodi, apps (Watch ESPN, HBO GO, etc) and an indoor antenna. I've of course heard about slingbox, but have never felt the need to look into it. Is it something I could hook up to my parents DirecTV and I can watch whatever they are watching on that specific box, and watch it on my TV at my place or can I only watch using slingbox app on my phone?
Cutting the cable in 4 weeks when I move. Is there a page in this thread or link with a list of all the media device options with pros/cons. Youtube package above looks sweet...also is the hacked amazon fire stick still the tits? Thanks
I'm a fan of SchismTV due to a number of plugins it installs for you. Still a lot of steps to go through, but saves a lot more time than installing all the plugins manually unless all someone wants is Exodus. http://www.dimitrology.com/2017/02/09/how-to-install-schismtv-builds-2017/
Thanks. Trying to find one with good live sports streaming as well. I've heard good things about Nemesis and a few others.
Schism installs SPortsDevil, I believe, but I don't use Kodi for sports so can't tell you anything more than that.
