It can't be official until the next league year starts in March. You can agree to a trade and have everyone report it's done today if you want.
Having your 25-year-old superstar QB request a trade has gotta be tough to deal with as a fan Lol Texans
Possibly. Either way Goodell hates when shit like this happens during the super bowl week(s) because it detracts from the super bowl and teams playing in it.
Not sure I buy that. The NFL wouldn't want Watson to get traded on Super Bowl Sunday. Probably not in the 1-2 days before, either. But if Houston agreed to a Watson deal any time in the next week it's not doing anything to detract from the Super Bowl. Especially in a COVID environment.
This makes sense in theory. Step 2 of that plan where they have to actually work it out with Watson long term as their QB after they just fined him $21.6M seems like it could be tricky, though.
More like trying to avoid negative news/PR and would rather it be focused on the upcoming game. Players getting traded isn't necessarily negative but the other stuff with Houston could be viewed as such.
the texans have no leverage i feel like he would just sit out until they trade him and if they don’t trade him they get absolutely nothing for a superstar qb fucking weird ass religious people ruin everything
The thought of Watson playing for a contender and a better staff is fun to consider. I certainly hope to see him in a new uni next year
There's going to be a weird thing going on around the league where half the teams are calling Watson trying to trade for him, while at the same time owners/GMs are probably really hoping Houston refuses to trade him and he ends up back there. Watson demanding a trade and getting it 5 months after signing an extension for $160M is a road they have to be terrified of. At least for Houston they could do it because of the contract structure. If that contracts was structured more on signing bonus than guaranteed salary they wouldn't be able to move him even if they wanted to.
Someone give me a quick cliff notes version here. Which teams are actually thought to be involved? Tweets aren’t loading for some reason. I assume NYJ and maybe Carolina and Detroit? Miami? Denver? Haven’t been following too closely.
No one is involved yet. Everyone is assumed to be interested outside of a few teams. He has a no-trade clause, so you can scratch off teams like Detriot and Carolina, probably.
I would not trade him. If you really think he’s a top 5 QB, you’re not going to be that far off from returning to the playoffs.
A lot of things I’ve read make it seem like it Mia or NYJ and possibly Panthers are the only ones who can logistically make it work.
i hope he calls their bluff and retires if they refuse to trade him they put him in such a shitty situation fuck em
As a Texans "fan," trading him actually makes the team better long term. But the spiteful part of me wants to see Watson sit out and Texans fine him into Bolivia.
they also didn’t have to completely give up on the team and let a crazy religious fuck run the entire team fuck em
aw yeah let’s side with the billionaire owners here like he couldn’t have signed that massive contract with any other team. maybe he was trying to be loyal, liked the city, and they promised a bunch of shit that didn’t happen we love the owners
