Dubas is at the Wings game tonight. I don’t read a ton into this but I’d really enjoy is trading for Marcus Pettersson. He’s just a really solid top four defensive defensemen. He’s a UFA but if you can get an extension (5x5.5 or so) that would be massive. He would be a perfect partner for ASP in the future but for now he could play with Seider and Edvinsson can play with whomever to try and balance out the D. I think the cost would be something like Berggren, Buium and a 2nd. I’d do that all day.
Rarely see that too many men called without someone touching puck, but that was pretty egregious in terms of the distance they made up in the change
Watching on sportsnet and they are livid about the call. It got a defender back to cover rush who in no way would have gotten there on a normal change. Guy coming off was still in his own zone when new player came on. I don't get the gripe other than maybe it isn't always called
Then they simply don’t know the rules: Rule 74 – Too Many Men on the Ice 74.1 Too Many Men on the Ice - Players may be changed at any time during the play from the players’ bench provided that the player or players leaving the ice shall be within five feet (5') of his players’ bench and out of the play before the change is made. Refer also to Rule 71 – Premature Substitution. At the discretion of the on-ice officials, should a substituting player come onto the ice before his teammate is within the five foot (5’) limit of the players’ bench (and therefore clearly causing his team to have too many players on the ice), then a bench minor penalty may be assessed.
Saw this on HF so take it with a grain of salt: Red Wings 2023-25 without Kane 14-7-3 (start of 2023-24 season) 5-2-1 (end of january 2024) 2-0-0 (current 2024-25 season) ----------- 21-9-4 (.676) Red Wings 2023-25 with Kane 22-23-5 (season 2023-24) 8-10-2 (season 2024-25) ----------- 35-35-8 (.490)
League setting a weird precedent there. You can hit the goalie in the head before a goal if any part of their body is out of the crease
I know all the coaches work on the special teams but Boughner owns it and as such he has gotta go. This is ridiculous.
5 wings surrounding goalie and one devil, and the one is able to score... Of course it was Chiarot and Petry on the side doing jack shit
This PK is an absolute embarrassment. The fact no coaches, let alone Lalonde have been canned shows the team doesn't give a shit about this season which is a huge dlssapointment
Talbot done for the day with a lower body injury. Husso will get the call if Talbot is out for a while but Cossa deserves a shot.
Kasper last 9 games 2 goals 4 assists after a 10 game pointless streak Berggren last 10 4 goals 1 assist after 1 point first 14 games Tarasenko last 10 games 2 goals 6 assists after 7 straight pointless games. Not lighting the world on fire, but those three together seem to have gotten them out of a slump and playing solid hockey lately
Oh hey we did the thing where we just sit on our ass in the defensive zone like cowards and we lost another lead.
A winnable game in the loss column that I'd put heavily on coaching. Stop being a wimp Yzerman, pull the plug on this staff
Interesting move if only because we really don’t need the roster spot (we have routinely kept 22 guys up to save daily cap space). I am thinking someone else might be banged up so there will be another emergency recall. My guess is it’ll be Watson if it’s a forward or Rafferty if it’s a D (assuming Lagesson can’t come up due to his suspension). Lombardi earned a call up but he left the last game with a minor injury. Danielson has been playing well and could see a call up but I feel like this is a short term deal. Plus with Boston and Ottawa this week I could see Detroit wanting someone like Watson for his physical presence.
Game is tied 2 minutes left and back to back we get possession and immediately skate it to just past center ice and dump it in.
Two things can be true: We deserved to lose that game because of another awful third and also the refs fucked us.
