Yzerman basically said he didn't care about this season. People should just agree with him and stop going to games
Not even worth belaboring the many points that have remained true about this team for a few years now. I don’t have any expectations for this Summer, I just hope we continue to integrate more kids into the lineup.
Danielson scored again last night, bringing him to 30 points in 56 games. For comparisons sake, Kasper had 35 points in 71 games in his lone full AHL season. GR is a mess right now, but Danielson has been thriving the last few weeks. It’s to the point that Yzerman has no reason not to give him a shot on the big club other than stubbornness. Now we hope ASP’s team gets eliminated in about 2-3 weeks so he can finish the season in Detroit cementing a roster spot for next season.
The thing i really don't get with Yzerman is, fine, you like the way the young players are coming along, you don't think this team is a contender even if you add, and don't want to give away assets to make 7 or 8 seed this year. Then why didn't you try and move kane and Tarasenko? Why were you willing to dump a 2nd to get rid of a perfectly acceptable DMan when you won't give up one to improve team (not to mention that DMan could have got you a 1st). It's like some people online are blinded by the good progress (mostly our high picks) are making and the fact Yzerman inherited shit, and are letting the complete lack of strategy in every other aspect slide.
NMC for Kane who doesn’t seem keen on leaving and Vlad is probably an easier buyout candidate at this point sadly.
Interesting stat from an Athletic article on the decline: Nearly half of the league is made up of former first-rounders, with 44 percent of skaters who have played 20-plus games this season being selected in that round.
Think Yzerman gets a little too much crap for not hitting on later rd picks. Those are crap shoots. The way hockey is set up with guys in pro leagues starting in high school, most the top end talent is known going into the draft. It's about picking the right ones between the various competition in all the different leagues. And to be fair, that's something Yzerman has done well. Almost none of my complaints about him relate to draft and development. Problem is not much positive to say in other areas of the team
Game tonight is a real gut check. Team is likely cooked but they gotta show up tonight and not get pushed around.
Just looking at Griffins stats now, didn't realize Tuomisto was having the year he was having. Not a name you hear much. Former 2nd rd pick, he's 24 now. 6'5" defenseman with 22 assists and almost a .5 ppg player with a positive +/-. May have a future on our 3rd pair
Motte is a bottom 6 forward who brings no offense and out pk is historically bad so it's not like he's a PK ace (i don't even recall him being on our pk1 when he plays) and is a -12 in 36 games. Tarasenko was brought in to provide offense, because thats about all he does. He has 8 goals this year. Both them are waste of roster spots right now.
Trying to remain somewhat of an optimist, the team is clearly better since the coaching change. Problem is they have only a few guys that can finish and the goaltending is below average. Yzerman has addressed goaltending in the draft but it’s frustrating he hasn’t taken any swings on dynamic offensive players.
I agree with that article from last month that said we should look to trade Larkin. Guy has been here 10 years with no playoff appearances and is now part of two consecutive March choke jobs. Time for a change for both sides.
Awww, they didn’t announce it. “All the others guys get misconducts” Hilarious stuff from the ref, though.
