Spoiler Vehemently disagree. A toddler telling the baron he’s met the atreides gom jabbar and stabbing him and then saying “my brother is here” when all the loud bombing starts would’ve been absolutely amazing and I’m kinda bummed they couldn’t pull it off.
just got home from the IMAX. my ADHD-ass was glued to the screen the entire time. just a phenomenal movie, top to bottom. the only casting that even slightly bothers me is Walken but I think because Xers and Millennials grew up laughing at/with him a lot that warps our view and the Emperor factors so little anyway it's not as though he did a disservice. pacing doesn't bug me much because, well, it's a movie, those concessions have to be made when transferring epics to film. speaking of which, I cannot believe someone didn't pitch this thing to HBO or something. source material is done, you could have had GoT part deux and held the nation by the balls again, at least until season 4 or so when we get "my skin is not my own". worth the wait and then some. can't wait for him to finish this trilogy.
Think we just need to let Denis tell his Dune story for the cinema. I don’t necessarily disagree that it could’ve been epic but he’s making a mainstream cinematic version of a dense hardcore sci-fi novel.
It’s been nearly two decades since I read the books, found this guy when I introduced Dune to a colleague for a refresher. He also has a discussion panel with Comicbookgirl19, IYKYK.
This guy is a great follow if you're into just putting on some Dune talk in the background while you play a video game or commute to work, etc.
Saw Dune 2 on IMAX. Totally worth it. What a movie. Incredible casting. I can't wait to watch it again. So much to take in.
Saw it last night in a standard theater. Had already bought a ticket for next weekend to see it on one of the top 10 largest IMAX screens in the country. Can’t wait. What a cinematic masterpiece, the definition of “Don’t just wait for streaming.” My one question was: Why did Paul go south? I feel like I missed something. Was it the visions with Jamis and seeing Chani’s face melted by nukes? I was confused because it seemed like he made an abrupt heel turn from “You guys go ahead, I’ll take care of things up here” to “JK I came and drank the water of life lol” and it all happened in like 2 minutes of screen time.
He knew that when he went south he would drink the worm juice. His hand was kind of forced in going south due to the Fremen fleeing because of the increased attacks when Feyd arrived.
Other side of the globe. What a fantastic ride it was, definitely hoping I can talk my wife into a second viewing in theaters.
Saw it again today. This time in RPC. The screen in IMAX is better but damn the sound in the RPX was intense.
The Freeman wouldn’t leave without him at that point and if they stayed they would have been damn near wiped out by Freyds tactics.
Saw it in IMAX yesterday I never read the book but I was reading a plot synopsis last night and apparently she is some powerful dude’s wife? Seems problematic to be married and a dead psycho’s baby mama
there is no way, shape, or form to transfer the totality of the scheming the BG do to the silver screen but like I said in my post 4-5 pages ago, just understand that they seek total control not unlike the Landsraad. the BG have been scheming for 10,000 years at this point in time. adepts and even Reverend Mothers are pawns to be moved across the board, securing bloodlines and furthering plans thousands of years in the making. their goal is to quite literally breed the messiah and their plan basically came to fruition but a generation earlier (remember in the first film how Jessica was yelled at for having Paul as she was meant to have a girl that would in turn marry Feyd-Rautha and produce the messiah). but they're the most secretive group in this universe, their power is vast but they hide it immensely well and their intentions remain almost entirely unknown to even the Great Houses (the KH is seen as a fairytale by most).
certainly wouldn't surprise me. I feel like people will be pitching the Butlerian Jihad as a series for sure if they haven't already. humans prevailing over sentient AI is going to put a lot of butts in seat just based off that idea given the current climate surrounding AI.
The Bene Gesseritt series has been troubled and already changed showrunners, which obviously isn’t a good sign. But it’s still currently being made, I think. It’s set like 10,000 years prior to the movies.
First viewing in imax tomorrow morning. Just finished second viewing of part 1. Was unaware it is a trilogy. A little disappointed but excited.
If the second movie (which I haven’t seen yet) finishes with the first book I think you’ll be satisfied.
First IMAX viewing, it was great, wonderful. One of the best movie experiences I've had. Only tiny gripes that I'm sure Denis will atone for/introduce in the next movie. Tim's performance was visceral. Absolutely loved it.
Finally able to get out to see it this afternoon. Amazing theater experience. Some truly incredible scenes/visuals.
Everyone was good, but Austin Butler took things to the next level when he was introduced. Damn, dude. Only criticism I had was on the pacing - the last 30-45 mins felt a bit rushed. Seemed like a sprint to the finish line after the first 25 miles of a marathon.
Yeah Elvis killed it. Looked menacing as hell. Heard he had to get a dialect coach to lose the Elvis accent.
