Spurs appointing Ryan mason as an interim calls into question the integrity of the league more than Ivan toney betting on games he didn’t play
Is it though if he has an ego and thinks the team will be worse without him? The question is whether he bet before it was public info he wasn’t playing.
Why? Do y’all think he’s like betting against members of the public and not against like bet365? Who gives a fuck if bookies lose money?
I am personally clutching my pearls at the thought of a bookie losing money because of inside information when they charge people 10% just to place a bet
I get that with your gambling experience you don’t think it’s that this is all that big of a deal, but it is.
please tell me why. i really just don't understand people who side with bookies on like legit anything.
I’m speaking on the situation as a whole. You thinking he should only get 3 months is hilariously dumb. It wasn’t like he made a handful of bets while on holiday.
I don’t understand why one would think that a player’s compulsive gambling would not have, at some level, an impact on performance - or at very minimum create a massive risk of one
it's all arbitrary. i would do a 3 month ban with a further 21 months suspended with the requirement that he attends weekly therapy/counseling and is required to spend 50 hours/year going to youth teams educating them about the dangers of extensive gambling
They can get fucked too Doesn’t change my view that using inside info to make money isn’t bullshit to me, just like I think it is bullshit when politicians do it with the stock market.
I don't really care about the making money part. I do think the punishment is light but it's more because of what he's doing to his team and indirectly the league/sport than any book.
I agree. I wasn’t trying to say that me thinking the making money part is the worst/even close to it. I just, personally, find that part to be fucked up.
I think that the ones he bet to lose, that he wasn’t in the match day squad at all, not just benched. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
It's that fact that his actions brought the integrity of the game into question (although PGMOL does that on a weekly basis)
that's not what I meant. I'm talking about stuff like detailed injury information or other random inside info that is constantly fed to sportsbooks and not available to the public.
When Pete Rose bet on the Reds he drastically changed his strategy. It's obviously an integrity thing And three months is like two games
If they’re expelled from the premier league it would be smart for the elf to put them in league two instead of the champ so they get 3 years
right this isn't trading sugar bowl rings for tattoos. I think stripped of every Barclays post first breach and least 10,000 minutes from academy players that haven't already made their debut next year
Que? Toney and City would absolutely get the guillotine for their actions 837 mass shootings a year are fine but don’t dare mess with the integrity of our sports
American football had two incidents in the last two years where players were suspended for gambling. Outside of a headline for a day I don’t think anyone gives a shit at all. Hence me asking if it was a joke and you talking about mass shootings.
I think if a NFL player of similar status had 200+ bets including bets on his own team this would be an insane storyline over here You’re obviously free to disagree, but the most recent case with the lions(random backups and a rookie who didn’t play) is childs play compared to this
I think Ridley placing 1 bet is completely different than this(200+ and bet on his own team). And I’d say a top 10 scorer in the premier league is far bigger than Ridley in the scope of their sports, personally.
I don’t give a shit? Now what I will say back to Ochos point on the media, if it was baseball those writers would have an absolute meltdown. NFL I genuinely don’t think anyone would give a shit.
I get what you’re getting at, I just don’t think modern day sports media has had an event like this Toney one to even make an equal comp. And based off what they do make a big deal out of, this seems like it’d be huge, to me.
The whole bet against the team thing doesn’t matter in my mind. I was coming at it more from the media angle. I’d be 100% fine if he was not suspended at all and started for Arsenal August 12.
