I also need to cut the pvc pipe so I can install a float so it turns off the unit rather than continue backing up.
Can anyone in here recommend a dehumidifier? Was looking at Prime deals and only difference I can tell is how much sq ft it covers and how big the holding tank is.
Any recommendations on generator size/brand to be able to run things like fridge/portable fan/TV/chargers? Hurricane season has started in Louisiana and I want to at least have something in case we lose power for an extended period of time
got ours at Costco it was on sale https://www.costco.com/honeywell-22...r-with-transfer-switch.product.100767860.html
Generators highly recommended these days? Our power went out a couple days ago, and we ended up packing the 3 kids up and going for a car ride bc it was so hot. What all could it power? Our house is small, everything electric. Safe to power A/C with one? Wife is definitely interested after that, lol
Spoke with a builder and looking at lots now to build. Why do I do this to myself? Preparing for the emotional roller coaster over the next couple of years.
My brother is in houston so their power went out for Beryl. They lost at least 1 combo fridge/freezer worth of food. Supposedly insurance paid out $750 per fridge. I guess that's a no brainer to spend $750 on a generator, so I'm currently in the market.
Nothing. Love our house. Area just isn’t where we see ourselves long term. So we’re wanting to move to the place where we’ll probably retire. Maximize equity here and get in while prices are lower in my golf community since I’m already up there multiple times a week now.
Where you are at that prices are low? Also how are you maximizing equity? Not trying to start an e-rumble, just curious.
The power goes out in our neighborhood semi-often. The power lines are not buried and it's an old neighborhood with many trees. So every few months we get an outage. it's never longer than a few hours and my elderly next-door neighbor lets me plug my fridge to his generator. because of my buddy Skip I will not be buying a generator anytime soon.
Our power got knocked out by Hurricane Michael in 2018 for 4 days. I bought a generator on the 4th day, used it for maybe 15 minutes and the power came on. It's in my garage and I have not used it since
All good. We moved into this area when it was newly being developed so we have a lot of equity in the current home. Prices seem to be stabilizing in this area but I’m sure it will still go up some. The area we want to move to is about 30 mins north and prices are growing more there so we’re wanting to get up there before we get priced out of the area for the size home we want to get. Just feel now is the time to get a good return with the current house and buy the new home before prices continue to climb there. Plus since it’s where we want to retire might as well go ahead and get there.
Got three quotes to replace our AC unit and god damn do I hate trying to suss out who is bullshitting me the most. Got it down to two companies. Company A: Roughly $8.5k unit but lower efficiency however they are okay with the state of my furnace and aren't requiring me to replace it in order to put a new AC unit it. If I do get a combo it's roughly $13.5k. 10 year parts 5 year labor warranty. SEER 13.4 unit. Company B: Supposedly completely locally owned, not owned by some company with shareholders so the tech/sales guy pushed hard on that angle. Since my furnace is more than 14 years old they require it to be replaced if we get a new AC unit. Talked a bunch to me about heat pumps which the other guy didn't, however I don't think it's worth it right now as it's going to add a big cost plus a circuit upgrade. The lower efficiency units aren't that much cheaper so the price of a new AC unit (SEER 16) and furnace combo comes out as $19k, that's without the furnace as operating as both gas and heat pump. He made a big point about how his company installs to manufacture standards which is why they don't supposedly take chances on keeping an old furnace around when replacing an AC unit. He said that other companies that don't offer 10 years of labor likely don't do this, but that sounds like bullshit word lingo. Company B guy at least seemed willing to negotiate as he was at least asking me a bunch about estimates I got from other companies, despite him offering me his "20% employee discount." He also gave me a lot more details about all the various equipment related to replacing the AC and furnace so I wound up getting 5 quotes. He by far was the pushiest which is generally a big red flag for me, just difficult to know how much of what he is saying is
I can never tell who's fucking me over in estimates for home shit. Is the guy charging 10k ripping me off or is the guy who quoted 6k going to do the most half ass job imaginable
1 year ago we got two 3.5 ton 16 seer ac units with new 98 or 99% efficiency furnaces and a new hot water heater for ~23k in NJ so not an inexpensive area. I’d shop around more.
FWIW I got a 17 SEER condenser unit for $6k in Kansas last summer. You need a >=16 SEER to get some Biden bucks on your taxes but it caps out at $600. Company B guy sounds like bullshit but what do I know. Also that 10 year parts warranty is just the manufacturer warranty I believe so I wouldn’t be too dazzled by it.
My neighbor recommend a different company I haven't contacted, she had the same kind of replacement last year with getting a new furnace and AC unit. I'm going to call them on Monday.
My hvac guy has fixed stuff on my unit under the 10 year factory warranty and didn't even charge me for labor like I thought he would, so I assume he is getting reimbursement from the manufacturer
Yes this is true. The HVAC company had also put in a new control board and they didn’t charge me the couple of times they came out to troubleshoot because they were gonna bill the manufacturer/vendor.
You and your neighbors need to start a 'Bury the Lines' movement on the neighborhood/municipality facebook group. It has not worked out for us yet but we've got many people on line supporting us.
Well ok then glad I asked, was about to put some Amazon boxes in a lot down the street’s dumpster since I saw others doing the same
They are great for getting rid of things like old paint, insecticide, fertilizer etc. Old gas cans too, and especially if there is residual fuel in them.
nobody is going to track you down for dropping an amazon box in their dumpster my god. don't put any corpses in there and you're fine.
