Favorite laid back place to eat in the city. Every single thing I've eaten there has been fantastic. Good place for people watching too.
OB's NYC FOOD GUIDE Ate at Caracas on Saturday, always a good decision. XI'AN FAMOUS FOODS on St. Marks...I cannot recommend this place enough. BaoHaus on 14th street is also really good for cheap food. Anything Momofuku is ridiculously good, Bo Saam is my favorite. Some other great spots: Eataly Osteria Morini (going here Easter) Freeman's (Super hipster, but really good) Schiller's (Love this place for Brunch) The Standard (great bloody marys and oysters, outdoor german beer garden attached to it) Il Buco (already mentioned, but awesome) The Cardinal (soul food) Goat Town The Spotted Pig (Batali Gastropub) 100 Acres (contemporary American...really amazing) Mary Queen of Scots (Great scotch lists, great environment) Minetta's Tavern ($$$$) Keen's Steakhouse (classic, must go) Barbone (probably my favorite pasta place right now. on Ave B) Northern Spy Food Company Back Forty Fatty Cue (Williamsburg) Fette Sau (Williamsburg) Bogota (Colombian Food in Park Slope) Jimmy's No. 43 (Great Craft beer bar with good food, and cheap) Artichoke Pizza Whitman's (east village burger place, really good, get the Juicy Lucy) Earl's Beer and Cheese (UES) Luke's Lobster Rattle N' Hum (Great beer bar that occasionally does tasting menus paired with craft beer) So many more, but I can't think of any more right now. Pro tips: Avoid large places, fuck midtown, a lot of the best food can be had for very cheap if you look for it (especially in the east village). Food This Summer: The Great GoogaMooga: Bonnaroo producers putting on a food and music fest in Prospect Park. Tickets are already sold out, but more will probably be released. SmorgasBord: Every Saturday in Williamsburg there is a massive food fest/antique/flea market that is a must. Right on the waterfront looking over Manhattan.
Fuck yeah, quality material OB. I wish we could imbed Excel into our posts, would send my sheet y'alls way.
Only nice(r) places if hit are Butter, Sons of Essex, Del Friscos. I've been to some other ones but they weren't great but there was a nice italian tapas place in West Vil that was pretty nice. Great drinks.
Mas Farmhouse is high end and very nice. You should check it out next time you have an occasion. Food is amazing. It's high end stuff without being skimpy (at all) on the portion sizes. I also went to their sister spot, Mas La Grillade, which was dope as well.
Bar Jamon is great too, in Grammercy Park. It's a batali spanish place that focuses on traditional tapas and cured meats. Attached to the main restaurant Casa Mono. Great spot, but pricey. Maialino is RIDICULOUSLY good. But pricey, inside the Grammercy Park hotel. Saw Woody Allen and Sun-Yi there lol.
It's New American cuisine with French influences. I think the 'Mas' refers to some sort of French-style house or something like that. Peep the score on Yelp, 4.5 stars... http://www.yelp.com/biz/mas-farmhouse-new-york
but they don't give a SHIT what I do on my internet. I'm on TMB all day and my manager doesn't care. Everyone is on gchat, fb, twitter, etc. You hit quote, you do what you want, I guess.
had a nice little day today left work around 1:30 (work at borough hall, bk) and got to the daily show studio around 2:15 (it's on 11th ave. between 51st and 52nd... kind of a trek, we walked from a times square 2/3) a lot less waiting than i anticipated. everyone says get there way early but they start giving out tickets at 2:30 and my party of four got tickets and about 20 people after me all appeared to. guest was anthony bourdain, who i think is actually pretty popular, too. moral of the story is we didnt have to wait in line long. once we got tickets, we had 2 hours in shitty midtown west to kill. found an okay pub for lunch + microbrews. back to the studio at 4:30, spent 30-40 min. kind of getting ushered around into the studio, and the another 20 in there waiting for the emcee/comedian/warmup intro guy. he does 10 minutes (hilarious, too) and then stewart does a Q&A for another 10, also hilarious, before starting the show. maybe just the atmosphere of the studio was good, but i couldn't stop laughing tonight. it's a bit different because you are kind of forced to laugh aloud and you sometimes can't hear all the punch lines, but it was fantastic. ordinarily you got out at 7 or 7:30, they say. we were done at 6:30. stewart killed it. no retakes. took a 2/3 to an F to the LES for pok pok wings. they recommended a bar nearby where we could eat without bother. someone bought a deck of cards. five rounds, four hours of cards, wings, and brews... good day.
Handcuffed do you need to register to get tickets beforehand or do you just get in line and its first come first serve?

OB Handcuffed Heavy Mental PJP3 Space IrishLAX2 Let's discuss gyms I joined Crunch, passport membership (used 59 and 2nd and Astor place) $85/mo. The midtown one is small and crowded but the Astor Place one is big and never gets too packed. Is anyone a member at Equinox? How much is the next tier of gyms?
I've been training at a CrossFit affiliate in the city for 2 years now, but prior to that, I was a member at NYSC. The 24/7 Grand Central one was the one I used most often, and I thought it was pretty good. I had a deal that was like $80 / month for the city-wide pass that let me use any NYSC.
NVM it's Google Offers...50% off https://www.google.com/offers/home#...RIN66F;r=IWRldGFpbHMvMTljNTlmODMwMzVmZTI4Mg==
my friend does copy for google offers im at equinox. its nice. you get way you pay for. i was at crunch when i lived in brooklyn (i live 100 ft from the 19th st equinox now)
i think the proximity to home outweighs any additional swank that I would see, at least, at this point in my life.
I go to crunch at union square. Right by the subway so its perfect for after work. Never too crowded surprisingly and very clean. Pay 70 a month but I got that rate passed down to me. Also have access to all crunch locations in the city. I lucked out and didn't even have to pay a sign up fee.
SF there is a place called dolphin fitness on 4th and 2nd that is incredibly cheap but its very small and kinda nasty. I worked out there when I first moved up here.
dolphins can't be trusted, as they rape people I'm sticking to crunch until my lease expires and then we'll see what the west side has to offer.
So jelly of everyone in this thread. Want a house in San Diego and an apartment in New York someday :(
I use dolphin on 4th and 2nd as it's right by me. It's $20 a month for a membership which is nothing. I don't hit the gym a lot, usually just play ball, but when I do it gets the job done.
I actually have one by my house in Roslyn, but it is not as good as the city location, which served me one of my best meals ever.
They serve my favorite Rack of Lamb. I also love the 3 lb. lobster dish where they chop it up and serve it in that brown sauce.
Went to The Lion last night. 7/10 on food, pretty good New American. Brussels sprouts side was god-tier. Ambiance was also really cool. Would recommend as a date spot.
Girlfriend is out of town this weekend. and movies tonight. 7 mile run, studying, and cooking tomorrow, may grab some beers at night. Sunday probably more studying and ordering some God tier delivery.
