I appreciated the movie for what it was but if it wasn’t called “Joker” I would’ve turned it off. It was more depressing than “Leaving Las Vegas”. Halfway through that movie I was like we all know where this is going so let’s just get there already.
I wasnt a huge fan but it was fine. I think my real distaste comes from the group of people who latched onto that movie. There is plenty of media like that where the actual thing is fine but the fans are the worst. The joker and its "we live in a society, man!" incel corp are pretty obnoxious sometimes
Doing sequels to this movie is dumb as shit and makes 0 sense in the context of the ending of the film
I watched it on a plane and fell asleep (probably more due to booze than the movie), finally watched it for real a few weeks ago and your first sentence kind of sums it up. It's not a bad movie, it's stapling a much worse version of Taxi Driver onto Batman. The best I can say is it's ok.
What parts of the movie were real and what parts were his delusions? I’d argue the climactic killing spree on the TV show never actually happened just like his other delusion of being on that show. How am I supposed to believe this whiny, anorexic momma’s boy is some formidable villain in the context of a larger universe? This should always have been a one-off.
It's not a good movie, and it thinks its audience has a room temperature IQ. Fucking everything has to be thrown in your face as explicitly as possible.
I’ll throw you a bone here. The Joker in the context of this movie is comparable to what you are saying. The Joker of which the overwhelming majority of people know him is not comparable to a mass shooter. Saying there’s going to be two more movies leads to believe they’re going for this joker to be like the ladder.
I can see a true super villain emerge from being inspired by this Joker. Much like the Jokerz from Batman Beyond.
It perfectly sets up Joker as the character he is in the comics. He can now directly obtain control over his own army of followers to wreck havoc and start doing actual crimes.
Except the recurring theme that they beat over your head throughout the movie is that anytime someone likes or is supportive of him or finds him to be charming he’s delusional and imagining it so the people in the streets rising up in protest dressed in clowns are figments of his imagination.
I have no idea about movies that haven’t been written yet. So going off of what we have it’s clear that he isn’t The Joker. I’ll withhold judgement about the future films when they come out. All I can do is discuss what we have. I enjoyed the movie but I like Taxi Driver 1000 time more.
You keep saying that because a Bruce is just a kid, but Bruce was just a kid in Keaton’s Batman when the baddie that would become the Joker killed his parents. He’s the Joker.
And the fact we see him running in Arkham with blood on his feet at the end so he is violent and the murder spree happened. Phillips said the laugh at the end when he was taking to the person in Arkham is the only time he actually laughs at something in the film.
if we absolutely must create sequels for a joaquin phoenix vehicle it would be better for everyone if it were a freddie quell trilogy
I enjoyed it. Thought it was well done and Phoenix knocked it out of the park. A very dark film; not the Joker we have come to know through Batman though. Definitely not what I expected. Wouldn't mind a sequel.
Has anyone watched it on HBO Max? It's obvious they cut scenes or shortened some. It was very noticeable. I just found that weird.
Gonna pop in Requiem for a Dream and We Need to Talk About Kevin right after and have a nice little afternoon!
