I think it's because Ari is receiving A LOT more response to this than his previous examples. There was a credible threat by someone to come shoot up the club he was performing at the other day. he can't ignore this. If I try really hard, in a way, I get what he's doing. Like be your own hero, don't worship some guy who tells jokes or sings a song or shoots a ball through a hoop. But I dunno how you justify the way he's trying to say that.
I don't think Ari is that deep of an individual. He's a troll and he's used to getting away with saying taboo things. The fact is that he posted a video and tweeted out things hours after the dude and his child died. I don't think calling in bomb threats or shooting up a place is the answer to this. But it wouldn't exactly hurt my feelings if Ari caught an uppercut to the jaw. His ”Kobe went to the Lakers. I hate the Lakers. I'm a Hornets fan and we suck” comment is pretty absurd for a dude who is 40 something years old. Now he has to deal with the fact that his talent agency dropped him and at best he has a subreddit full of dudes knighting for him.
I agree with this but think that, credit to him, he's changed for the better in this way. It seemed like his guests could say or do no wrong for a long time and as his show has grown, he's been more accountable. Whether it's with anecdotal shit like that or having Jamie fact check on the fly, he seems to have changed in that way. It was very noticeable when he had James Wilks come on to debate Chris Kresser about Wilks' documentary. He's always looked at Kresser as someone on the level of Dom D'agostino or Rhonda Patrick in terms of nutritional knowledge. Wilks came in and put Kresser in a body bag during that debate.
You don’t appreciate how truly dumb Joe is until Redban is his guest. Don’t misinterpret regurgitating information for intelligence. Joe’s a Parot.
"I like destroying gods"? Fucking douche. Ari probably lectures waitresses at The Funny Bone about how he's a dying breed of comedian, and oh btw he slayed tonight
I never understood why people liked him. But I don't understand how people like 90% of the "comics" that are out there these days either.
Ari's talent agency dropped him in response to the backlash. That is 100% the only reason he apologized. Much like the Bert thing, if people hadn't swamped him with anger, he would have gone right along believing it was totally hilarious.
My 2 cents on Ari. I have been listening to JRE since like episode 5. Ari was kind of a fun guest in the early years, episodes 200 and under. Somewhere a couple years in, I started to not enjoy Ari as a quest. He came across as very self absorbed and a hate towards the industry for not fully "making" yet. I have seen his comedy a little and I hardly laughed. As the years have gone by and these other guys have grown up, got married had kids. He is still in this post college, "do whatever I want, whenever I want" type attitude. There is nothing wrong with living a Solo life, no gf, no wife, no kids. Ari unfortunately has grown less empathetic towards people in general over the years. As someone who recently became a Dad 2 years ago and another son on the way, you start to realize their is more to life than just yourself. The sacrifices you have to make as a husband and a father are daily and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Ari unfortunately will probably never experience these feelings. He is a sociopath that has no ability to compromise, show feels for others and understand what someone might be going through when losing a close loved one. Ari dosing Bert really did not sit well with me. Fucked up all together, and Bert surprisingly took it pretty well. He could have killed Bert with him already taking other medication. He also did it at Bert's house with his wife and kids there. I can see why Bert's wife hates him now. If he would have dosed Joe, Tom or anyone else, they would not have tolerated this immature and criminal behavior. On top of it, he never actually apologized for it. Part of being an adult is admitting when you are wrong and make a mistake. We all know being in a relationship, married or not, you are going to have to suck your pride up from time to time and admit when you are wrong. Ari has not hit that level of maturity yet, and probably never will. Then the Kobe rant. Disgraceful, terrible timing, not funny, disrespectful etc . . . When I saw that shit, it actually angered me. The guy is just clueless. Even in his last post trying to explain himself about the rant, he never actually apologizes or takes responsibility for his own actions. He just tries to justify his alt style of comedy. I will never watch any of his comedy again, I will never watch another episode of him on JRI. It will be interesting to see how Joe eventually responds to this, and I hope Joe makes a strong stance different than his ho hum approach with Bert's dosing. Fuck Ari, I'm glad Brian Callan, Chris Delia and Michael Rapaport have already called him out. His career should be over hopefully.
They discussed it on TFATK the other day. They have a pretty reasonable take, that it wasn't just inappropriate, it wasn't funny. Like Callen is saying, where is the humor? it's one thing to be offensive and inappropriate for a funny joke. But the big key there is that it has to be funny. This wasn't.
Omg. I don't fucking care. Why do people get so jacked up about stupid shit. And comedians going in on each other is fucking lame.
Same. Half way in, and It's insane, unbelievable, inspiring. He lays it out pretty simply, really. Ignorance leads to fear which leads to hate. The solution is education.
They have an interesting discussion about how we communicate these days, and how quickly we dismiss people or label them based on their actions or beliefs, and bypass actually having discussions. That sounds good from most people, but is mostly lip service. This guy befriended and talked to Klansmen. Think about how that suggestion would be taken by most people. Fuck that, I'm not giving a fucking KKK member the time of day, much less actually listening to them or being friends with them, what a fucking absurd idea. He seems to take the wild position that people who disagree with each other should be able to engage in civil discourse and talk about their differences without fearing or hating each other. And that we often judge the action of the person without taking the time to understand the feeling or reasoning behind the action, whether it's voting for or against Trump, or joining the Klan or whatever. Some crazy ideas here
“ theriner69er is a dumb idiot “ - person who continues to converse with him for multiple posts in multiple threads well after they make the observation. Every 3rd post is a repetition of said observation.
I don't think anyone is ”jacked”. It's a comedian with multiple Netflix series who loves to complain about ”PC Culture”. His ”friends” are distancing themselves from him because they know that it could possibly hurt their brand. Kind of similar to when folks distanced themselves from Michael Richards after he called two audience members ”nigger” during his rant
That was different. He wasn't a comedian. Ari think he's pushing boundaries with his schtick. I don't give a shit what style he is. I started to realize Ari was a dildo years ago. The fucking guy kicks people's seat if they recline in front of him on a plane. There's something legit wrong with him.
While Ari is a pretty obvious loser, I understand his frustration with seat reclining. Long femurs and shit.
So in the past week or so Rogan has endorsed Bernie Sanders, had Daryl Davis on, and just had Andrew Doyle, a guy who is right in Rogan's wheelhouse of anti-woke SJW culture. Is he trying to alienate all of his conservative, white supremacist, and liberals followers in one week??
The latest Tom episode was solid. Chopped 3 hours worth of wood listening to it in the backyard today.
i've blasted through my pods for the day already, 'spose i'll throw it on with some poker a bit later and report back
Eric Weinstein one is off to a great start ... calling for Nancy Pelosi to resign cause she didn't cancel Chinese New Year's or something
This is nothing more than Infowars lite. He keeps floating Tulsi G out there as an alternative for Biden and it's comical.
Think he called for Trump, Fauci, and Pelosi to all resign if I’m not mistaken. I like Weinstein but Joe is so far out of his depth with him that it’s kinda pointless to listen to the two. Just skip the Rogan pod and listen to The Portal episode on geometric unity, IMO.
He got in to that later but Pelosi and De Blasio were first mentioned for telling people "it's OK to go to Chinatown" ...
Dan, how much do you love war crimes? Hey Jamie, play a montage of war crimes scene in movies. My friend Jocko told me about this montage. Sorry, where were we.
