I'm curious to see how the spin-offs do. There isn't much of an arc to Wick's character in four films but people went to go watch Keanu be a bad motherfucker (he also spent a lot of time putting in the stunt and prep work for these films), curious if the interest in the universe will continue to exist without him and the other characters who will likely never be seen again because they're too expensive. apparently Yen has expressed interest in a film about Caine but circle back to my second sentence. Hong Kong Blood Operas are probably my favorite genre of film ever and this whole John Wick series was basically a high society take on HKBOs (compared to the much grittier films of the late 80s and 90s) which sort of went a bit beyond that scope once the original was such a success. btw, if you like this series of films, and I'm assuming you do, and the genre itself interests you, I would highly recommend A Better Tomorrow (the original not the remake), A Better Tomorrow II (but not III), The Killer, and Hard Boiled. those essentially started and grew the genre culminating in what most consider HKBO's crowning jewel in Hard Boiled. there's more depth to the genre than just this but it's a good start. watching those you'll see a lot of the building blocks of the John Wick films in them and a lot of modern gun-heavy action films in general, it's an influential genre for how tiny it is relative to other things.
star power is important. But honestly, if they just keep upping the ante with this action set pieces, I am in. they are really go for some things not previously seen in too many films
You mean the highest grossing movie in years with a 99 percent approval rating from fans on RTs and 8.3 on IMDb. Yes man, I liked top gun maverick, pretty much the most popular and well liked movie from 2022.
I aint gonna re-litigate that movie. This movie is like 5 set pieces that each one of them go on way too long without pretty much any dialogue or plot or character arc. It could've been an hour shorter and accomplished the exact same thing.
also hmmm yes I wonder why it was the highest grossing movie in years I can't put my finger on why that might be very interesting
I was beginning to think I was the only one who had a problem with JW4. Could have been an absolutely amazing movie if they'd shown an ounce of self control and trimmed all of the major scenes by 10-15 minutes, but they learned absolutely nothing from the mistakes of Parabellum.
Tenet’s plot sucks so idk that comparison would help it but this statement is always one I love “just shut off your brain and enjoy”. It’s very possible to make a great action movie that doesn’t require this
afb and bro acting like NWH didn’t come out the year before with their “it’s the highest grossing movie in years” rant is hilarious
Spiderman did have a huge box office. But Top Gun Maverick is the #12 grossing movie of all time. My point still stands
You said TG:M was the highest grossing movie in years, I corrected you. Now if you would e specifically said “highest grossing movie released in 2022”, all would be fine.
"biggest in years" given that the previous years were a global pandemic is an incredibly stupid statement and you know it
Also, to correct myself on a mistake. TG:M wasn't even the highest grossing film released in 2022. It was Avatar 2.
Avatar being up there is such bullshit. Cameron was so mad End Game was on top he had it re-released. Marvel should do that for Infinity War and End Game and fuck Cameron up.
This thread sucks now. I just want to read about people thinking nunchuck fights are cool. Way to go losers that can’t just let people like things
you guys are hijacking the thread with box office numbers for completely unrelated movies… not just you, obviously. regardless of reasoning this thread sucks now
I, for one, am happy that everyone shared what they objectively thought of the movie. I am pretty sure i Will like it since I liked all of them even the ones that were not the greatest. I won’t get offended if someone else tells me it sucked, and I certainly won’t point to a data point that has avatar number one on the list to back up my opinion that the movie was great.
Top Gun Maverick fuckin rocked and that’s from a dude who thinks the first is a giant sweaty piece of shit
