Holy shit, looked up an article in the Star, last time it was lit up was 2006. How does time go so fast?
At the time of its construction, the KCTV tower was the third tallest free standing structure on Earth. Only behind the Chrysler building and the Empire State Building. 4th tallest? The Eiffel Tower. The frenchies got jealous and added some poles and radio antennas to pass it up. After that it got its KC nickname as the “Eye-Full Tower”. Can’t believe it’s been so long.
NPR used to be in the building next to it. During an internship I went there to stuff envelopes and I went and stood under the tower. Very cool that they’re lighting it up again
It's going to keep getting worse. $2.5 billion of development has been approved for downtown. This is going to be cool even without the stadium next to it.
I understand both and it's a pleasant nuisance (if done right) to have but a nuisance nonetheless, been working downtown a lot recently and just an observation of how bad it's gotten
It has already happened. My wife's old coworker posted a photo that Taylor took with the staff. Could you imagine if you somehow took today off?
A 14 year old that my wife nannied for back when she was like 2 got to meet T Swift today. Pretty awesome for her
they shut down the town company at 8:15 and kicked everyone out for a private event, probably for those two
Jesus Christ. Jackson Co is really going to piss away this $70 million and Frank White still won’t attend a single meeting. The guy has it out for this city.
And this is even worse: https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article299034665.html We just ordered a bunch of fire ladders and extinguishers from Amazon.
Forgot to post it but the streetcar is running to the UMKC stop now. They were trying to get the timing down with the stop lights down there yesterday. Not sure when they’ll open it to the public.
they have to test it for a certain amount of time without passengers before it can go live. so there's nobody in them except for the conductor rn. not sure how many hours are required
user Fancy ordered some Yoli tortillas and they’re being delivered to him today. our city’s influence grows
Yeah we have emergency escape ladders under our bed and slings to put our dogs in for fear of this very thing. Also gotta keep those fire extinguishers up to date. They expire every 5ish year so replace so you know it will work if/when you need it (hopefully never).
he was a cat. his wife died in a car wreck a year or two ago so now their kid is parentless. just a horrible story
I live in Bonner it's hit some resistance, idiots will approve a new Amazon warehouse without blinking but this will bring the homeless and the crime apparently
It's also barely in Bonner IIRC. It's at like 110th and State. No one lives within like 3 miles of that spot minus perhaps those apartments over at Legends.
If that's where it actually goes, next to the American royal. There's plenty of room, it's small town bullshit. Bonner/basheor/kck have done this shit for years
I grew up out there - trust me, I know. The Legends was a godsend to teenage me as there was dick to do in LV/WY until then.
