Once you add fees that turns into like $220. It’s ridiculous. I should of waited and risked the secondary market but I’m an idiot.

This 50 degree temperature drop we're going to experience in the next 18 hours is quintessential KC weather bullshit.

Well, from the new plans (as of last week) Mayor Q convinced them not to cross Oak street so they were already saved.

For sure. The teams said they’d release the plans last Sept and we didn’t get them till Feb. The Chiefs were supposed to be the Ace up the sleeve but those designs were awful. No one got excited for a park and a stage. Then you still have the anti downtown stadium losers. The hicks in Raytown, Blue Springs, Independence don’t want to lose “their” stadium and wHeRe WiLl We PaRk!? They have no issues going downtown for PBR but a baseball game would ruin their lives. Then the nimby downtown hipsters don’t want a stadium because all of those sports fans will ruin their vibes and ch

I do think the final location was the best of all of them presented. I love the idea to keep developing towards 18th n Vine to connect it to downtown. Then get a trolly system to go between 18th n. Vine, the stadiums/PnL, the convention center, Kauffman center with stops at the street car stations. Would of gone a long way to expanding downtown and making it a destination.

Yeah. That was supposed to seal the deal and it ended up pissing more people off. They didn’t have to be included into the deal though. So I don’t know what benefit they’d get from torpedoing it. I think they just blew it as well.

bad combo of really shitty marketing and PR by the teams and Frank White delaying things forever. they’ll probably come up with a plan that gets Jackson county on board or we’ll watch the other counties get into a bidding war

Ultimately, it feels like both teams end up leaving Jackson county. It was dicey getting this done back in 2006 and you had Sly James carrying a lot of water before he became mayor.

They don't have that same collective organization this time around and voters are a lot more tax stressed after seeing record properly tax hikes.

I hope this is a harbinger of taxpayer financed stadiums coming to an end. Would be awesome if the surrounding areas’ (and competing cities’) taxpayers started giving all of this foolishness a giant “nope!” moving forward.

But we know this isn’t happening. Word is Clay County (Royals) and Kansas (both teams) already have better proposals than what was offered in Jackson County. Hell, a small part of the KS gambling tax is set aside to entice a pro team to move to the state. My guess is they revise the plans and put it on the Nov ballot where there will be high turnout. If that fails my bet is we’re looking at the Kansas City Chiefs and North KC Royals.

I don’t know if that’s entirely true. Certainly isn’t 100% everywhere, but the commissioner who gave the Braves a shit load of money to move to Smyrna was removed from office in the next election. I think/hope this is a trend.

Aside from the chop bullshit, I don’t have any animosity toward KC or Chiefs fans, so I hope they don’t bear the brunt of it. I was crushed when Seattle lost the SuperSonics.

Yes but they are running out of space with what they are already building now. I hate living in Bonner for this reason, Johnson county taxes with Wyandotte co problems

    they are currently building...
    The new American royal
    A major distribution plant
    A new truck stop qt
    Maragarittaville hotel and beach
    New Mattel amusement park
    Panasonic spillover

    and Lenexa is also exploding

Something I keep hearing on the radio is that the city are the ones that really pushed for the crossroads site over East Village. I guess the PnL district has been hemorrhaging money so they wanted the ball park there to add 80+ high traffic days to the schedule. It also sounds like they were getting an amazing deal on the purchasing of the star building.

the gambling tax revenue is hilariously small. 7 million in 2023. and they can use 80% of that to attract a team

I’ve decided I’m blaming Clark Hunt for all of this, because the Chiefs decided to ask for a shit ton of money to invest in things that would only help the Hunt’s wallet.

STAR bonds. same scam they used for prairie fire and a dozen other failed projects. Kansas speedway was built with one too. with that said a football stadium would probably be one case where it could work, depending on where it is and how much non-football game use it would get

Obviously I think billionaires should pay for their own shit. But it was all fun and games thinking about building a new stadium until they start talking about using Kansas’s money for this. I’d love the stadiums closer to me, I hate using my own money to pay for it. Put the Royals in the Crossroads where it belongs, and make the billionaires pay for it.

The thing I'm curious about is Sherman has said on multiple accounts that his investment team has raised over a billion in private funds as well, could they not use that to buy up the crossroads willing to sell at a decent profit and then vote again in November? I get the PR and campaigns for this where a shit show from the jump on both sides but I feel like if the star building was sold along with most of the mom and pop shops the vote would go the other way

A friend of my significant other works somewhat close with him at Jackson County, and says he is an absolute POS professionally. She was against the vote because of some of the lack of transparency these past few months, but passed along that it was infuriating seeing him get to celebrate on local news last night and pose with KC Tenants when he's a nightmare to work with and doesn't represent the community's best interests the vast majority of the time.

I hope the Royals look at a different downtown proposal, but wouldn't be surprised if one or both start looking in Joco/Wyco.

Seeing the Chiefs tout "signing a new Community Benefits Agreement" and "signing a new lease" last week....only to find out they had sent a pre-signed lease to the county and had actually returned a redlined Community Benefits Agreement with less support for local businesses was pretty damn disappointing. I didn't pay him much attention previously, but Mark Donovan can go fuck himself.

If I’m not mistaken STAR bonds are the reason Illig/Patterson ditched the Bannister Mall site and built Sporting Park in the legends. Which of course pissed me off back then because Id prefer the stadiums 10 minutes from my house, not 40.

Honestly, Sherman just needs to hold a press conference and say “Were building a new stadium in the Crossroads and we’re going to make Kansas PAY FOR IT!!!” The Missouri Maga hatters would vote yes in droves. Probably pass 85-15.
