So is the angry boomer population just blinded by the blackman that they completely missed the messaging of the show the Lamar and, even louder, Samuel L Jackson gave? I've seen lots of "ugh hated the show/rap, Sam Jackson was the best part". Do these people not have ears? Have they just seen SLJ in their movies they completely disassociated what he was saying and the meaning behind it? I feel like lots of ppl are looking this as a performance and not a message, and the later was pretty fucking clear
Idk if it was my TV set up, but it was hard to hear Kendrick clearly over the music for a lot of it. So I could see someone who doesn’t know any of it being confused.
I wonder if Kendrick walking in a circle during Not Like Us was him symbolizing his victory lap. All while doing it at the big as the what? Big as the Super Bowl
Some fucking streamer incel nerd claiming he is what the culture is feeling over Kendrick is pretty damn funny.
Needing a list of all Kendrick’s symbolism on every joint he does is why I love it, and why it went over so many peoples heads. Imagine hating it and not knowing a damn thing about it.
I hate that we have a whole generation of kids that don’t go out and touch grass and let terrible people like this have a platform.
Saw a post that said this: "You think Drake is having a bad night? Think about the poor girl who's having to comfort him right now. She has to talk him off the ledge AND she has her To Kill A Mockingbird book report due tomorrow!
I watched this a while back and tbh I see the similarities. I don't know of other musicians that have fanbases the decode every line. Some of it may end up being bullshit the fans made up but that makes it fun imo.
the Uncle Sam thing I think is 2 things: 1) Kendrick using that as a commentary on the state of the country 2) Drake in Family Matters “where’s your uncle at? Cause I wanna talk to the man of the house”
Also had to do with a few LA lawmakers writing a letter a few weeks ago with “concerns about the show being too vulgar” https://www.ktalnews.com/entertainm...-vulgar-super-bowl-halftime-performances/amp/ SLJ had a line about “being too ghetto”
I laughed my ass off during the performance knowing that SLJ literally said the thing that you knew white America was going to be bitching about and saying on twitter after the performance. SLJ: "This is too ghetto!!!" Right Wing Whites: "omg this was so ghetto..."
Buddy of mine who’s a black man said he thinks the fact that SLJ was always known as an Uncle Tom also played a role in his Uncle Sam role. Not sure if it’s true or not but I thought the take was interesting.
I didn’t know Kendrick Lamar beyond “All The Stars” prior to last night. Loved the show and downloaded a bunch of his songs for my workout playlist moving forward.
My 3 y/o is a champion sleeper but he protested bed last night. We had like 10 people over for the game so we just let him party. He was dancing up a storm to Kendrick so we listened to some (clean) GNX and Not Like Us today. He absolutely loved it /ruthkanda
He did that entire original Black Panther soundtrack with the composer Coogler uses in all his films. It’s a good listen.
for sharing with the unexciting whites in your life the fact it's longer than the performance itself though
Your black friend is weird. Sam Jackson has been one since Coming to America. He plays some weird roles but that’s called range. I will die on a SLJ hill with my last breath.
I was confused if he was saying SLJ is known for being an uncle tom, or known for playing roles as an uncle tom. Pretty big distinction lol. But also Im not sure I can think of more than one or two.
I was with a houseful of boomers, all liberal. They hated it. I think most of it boils down to old people just don't like rap music more than anything.
Spotify has a "clean" playlist of his entire catalog. Not sure about Not Like Us. Haven't seen a version that bleeps out some N words. Can't have him repeating that. My son is a big Kendrick Lamar fan. Loves Money Trees and ****** Don't Kill My Vibe.
