I think i either phrased it wrong or you got it wrong Meant: Closest point of alaska --> cairo is closer tha Closest point of Florida --> cairo
But i can redo it a bit less weird. From Helsinki the closest point of the US is also alaska (same basically for everything above the trondheim-st petersburg diagonal)
I think if you added is to your first statement it would’ve made more sense to me. Alaska is closer to the Pyramids than Florida =/= Alaska is closer to the Pyramids than Florida is
That flight from Cape Town to Chicago going to be so easy New York and Lagos probably gonna have a big rivalry, understandably Indian Ocean will be really pretty
TIL that gravity is weaker in the indian ocean and sea levels there are up to 350 ft lower than the median sea level https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Ocean_Geoid_Low
Everyone knows that Everest is the mountain farthest from sea level. Many know it’s not the tallest from base to peak, Denali by land, Mauna Loa by sea. But the mountain that’s the furthest away from the center of the earth? That’s Ecuador’s Chimborazo thanks to something called earth’s bulge. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equatorial_bulge
So sea level isn't always sea level. I mean, yes Chet, there are waves and swells. Those may go from a meter to even 20 meters above sea level. But the sea itself? Well no wonder Everest is the tallest from sea level. It's got a 350-ft handicap.
I’m reading a book called “Pocket Atlas of Remote Islands: 50 Islands I Haven’t Visited and Never Will.” It’s awesome. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8197735-atlas-of-remote-islands
Weird. It showed 240k leaving Cali, 84k moving to Texas, and overall a huge influx of ppl moving to the Southeast.
Sounds like it was based on the UHaul Growth Index which measures migration trends based on rentals during the year.
where have you been for the last 5 years? tons of people are leaving higher cost of living states for Texas and the south.
California’s population grew in 2023 and this map is using day from 7/1/23-7/1/24. Wonder what the data is for all of 2024.
