Mortal Kombat reboot

I thought the first 20-30 minutes were the best part of the movie tbh.

 

Thought it was fun. Will 100% watch a sequel

 

In an era where we have awesome movies and shows about all sorts of fucking superhero’s and shit, how dare people point out an action movie sucks.

But ERM MER GERR WHER DER YER EXPERRRRRRTTTTFFFF??!!1!

Example: because I expect the gamecocks to suck, doesn’t mean it’s not annoying when we suck and I can’t tell people we suck.

Still going to watch. Just going to make sure I’m extra high while doing so.

 

I think it’s an absolute shit film but it fan services much better than the original does. Much better

 

And I’ll watch the sequel

 

This is what I would want from an MK movie. 95 had a lot more charm but this was a service to fans. A good amount of characters plus a couple obscure ones which I thought was a good idea to not waste good characters in the way they were used. I mean they did waste one or two good ones but there's plenty more to reload with.

Kano stole the show. Still hilarious that Kano being Aussie today is based on the 95 movie which they then used in video games after that movie.

Loved that they stuck with fighters move sets. Just have to have a big smile all the way through the movie with that stuff. Bringing in Kung Laos buzzsaw fatality was *chefs kiss.*

In 95 Sonya was the one who didn't buy the story. This one she's obsessed with it. Kinda funny that way I guess.

I'm not big on that whole dragon tattoo thing but maybe it makes more sense in future sequels. In this one it felt cheap.

Shang Tsung is the most major downgrade. That role was perfected already.

Cole is whatever but I'd imagine they add him as a video game playable character at some point. He's still way better than a whole hell of a lot of terrible MK fighters

Fucking called the last scene a couple pages back. It wasn't post credits like I originally thought but it might as well have been.

Ending with Sub zero dying perfectly sets up for Sub zero/noob saibot from the story.

TBH I thought There would be more gore after the hot start

Liu Kang fucking sucked

Everyone dodged his fireballs. He seemed to be weak. Then he went all dragon.

Man I loved this shit. They could have gone dark and gritty, but instead picked super dumb and super fun. Good choice in my opinion.

She finally just went to bed announcing this is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. She wasn’t that far off but hopefully the second is better.

Scorpion speaks Japanese the whole time except for “get over here.”

Cole’s power is fucking swords and body armor?

 

I actually liked his arcana (good plot device btw, actually explains why the humans can do weird shit). he absorbs kinetic energy and it energizes him, making him stronger, faster, etc.

he's basically Sebastian Shaw.

 

The game came out when I was like in middle school. I barely remember anything.

 

I would prefer a Primal Rage movie.

 

Smoked a bowl and drank bourbon and was entertained. Pretty much exactly what I expected.

 

Kano stole the show

 

I thought it was good considering my expectations were low.

Had low expectations and still thought it was pretty bad.

 

Laughed at the scene where Liu was cheesing the sweep move against Kano.

 

My favorite part may have been how they worked in Sub Zero’s move where he freezes himself, moves backward, and left in his initial place is an ice sculpture of himself. Loved that move in the game.

There were some cool fight scenes, and I nostalgia’d hard. Those were my only expectations, and they were met.

 

Liu Kang just didn’t have that many technical fight scenes and was mostly a plot narrator so I don’t get why you cast a martial artist who can’t act

 

Really bizarre decision to have that be his role

 

yeah, lot of interesting headfakes like no actual tournament, LK isn’t the central protagonist, core story is Sub-Zero/Scorpion rivalry. Seemed like the thesis for the movie was 90s nostalgia bait and for some reason they decided there was more cultural nostalgia for those two than Liu Kang.

 

I mean scorpion and sub zero are the first two characters I think of when I think of MK imo.

And if the whole idea is a movie franchise then it makes sense to cast him now for the "tournament movies" where he will obviously have way more of a fighting role

 

I haven't played MK in decades. Was Cole not a character in any of the games?

Sonya Blade is a region rat

 

Wish they would have spent more building it up and Sonya researching. Could have spread things out for more movies (I’ll take all I can get of MK).

As others said, Liu Kang and Shang Tsung were awful (would be hard to match the originals for me).

Loved it overall.

Biggest gripe for me was Kabals voice. Way too cartoony.

Just watched it again with my Dad, I think it was better the second time around.

 

i thought kabal was mandalorian's voice at first and got all excited

then he talked more and i was v v wrong

 

I recommend watching the animated Mortal Kombat film, Scorpion’s Revenge. Violent as hell and was a hit.

MK has always been Scorpion vs Sub-Zero in a way. They softened Kang for sure, but I’m not mad at it. The Shang Tsung casting was terrible.

there are some reviews that people don’t like the “avengers style team up” but when reading the original script, this has always excited me. Get some character development going, learn to love a character before their head is ripped off(am I a psychopath?).
It was the right amount of violence to show why it needs to be a Rated R film and save it for later when a tournament actually happens.

Kung Lao is a badass but I hate him in this film. The script he just fucks people up and served a vow of silence

 

Also I absolutely loved the movie. Very needed dumb fun and can’t wait for the sequels
