We fucking bailed man. In Dallas now. No sign of power being restored any time soon there. It’s hot as fuck. People are going to die. Wal-Mart is down. Like the peons are getting anything soon lol. Of course my parents are refusing to leave when we have literally 7 different houses of family members happy to take them and their dogs. Because they’re “tough.” Last text I got they had been in line for 2 hours to get gas for their small generator to power a fridge and small electronics. I got gas 10 minutes outside of town with no wait 5 hours ago. What the fuck is wrong with that generation. They’re so awesome in so many ways but more stubborn than 2 year old me
my biased uneducated non psychologist opinion. Some are actually true believers in the nonsense they’ve been fed all their lives. Self reliance, pull yourself up by your boot straps, the lord will provide, work hard etc crap that isn’t real.
Power still out. Got my mom out of there today at least. She’s realized after getting back into air conditioning that her brain was wonky. My dad is sitting around alone in 100+ in whitey tighteys with a loaded shotgun waiting for looters who will never come in hell while his three sons and grandson (rarely sees and loves the fuck out of him) are living it up tomorrow in DFW on Father’s Day
Christ. I’m sorry man. Hope the old man is staying hydrated and doesn’t shoot anybody. Glad you got your mom out of there.
Appreciate the follow ups. He was bartering with my little brother to hand off the dogs half way and go back this morning. We finally got him out here. He’s at my little brothers house in recovery at the moment. Hopefully, we can all get together later this evening Speaking of old man and his shotgun though now that I can breathe a sigh of relief. Found out the parents had three cops show up mistakenly at their house in the middle of the night a few weeks back. They have a ring doorbell . He greeted them in his underwear, shotgun in hand, dogs barking, and they all survived. Told him he was very fortunate to be white
The not so funny but also funny thing is this is a pilot run to see if my wife would be okay with moving here to be closer to everyone. That door is pretty much closed and locked with the key melted down at this point. Back to CA forever. Which hurts, but hey, we got poetictrojan as a neighbor at least
Moved to CA about 2.5 years ago and couldn’t be happier…and now that I found a black market buyer for my kidney I’ll be able to pay off our HELOC! #thegoodlife
PaulKemp sorry to hear about your CFS Mary's is good stuff, haven't been myself in years. Still have a koozie from thete Got my curiosity up, where is it your parents live?
Was a tragedy for sure. But at least I got to try it. Never have a reason to be west Fort Worth usually. Mary gave me a couple koozies as well. Longview
Dallas has tied its record hight dew point of 80* twice in one week. It is so nasty outside. We are all going to die.
Here in Houston they’re asking everyone to crank up the thermostat 3 degrees, unplug all electronics not being used, and not run any appliances from 2-9pm. Power capital of the US!!!
My power went out in the storm that hit Houston Wednesday night. Currently 86 inside the house and center point said maybe Sunday for power to be back on
Floridaman in TX, what could go wrong? Boy, 14, Dies Hiking In Heat Then Dad Dies In Car Accident Looking For Help By Zuri Anderson June 26, 2023 Spoiler Photo: Getty Images A Florida man and his 14-year-old stepson have died during a hiking trip in Texas while a dangerous heat wave choked the state over the weekend. According to a release from the National Park Service, the 31-year-old man and his two stepsons were on Marufo Vega Trail in Big Bend National Park when the tragedy happened on Friday (June 23). Officials said it was 119 degrees when the family hiked in the park. The 14-year-old stepson reportedly got sick and passed out during the hike. The boy's 21-year-old brother carried him while the stepfather went back to the vehicle to call for help, the agency wrote. The park's Communications Center got the father's call around 6 p.m. and both park rangers and U.S. Border Patrol agents were deployed to find them. The search team found the 14-year-old boy dead along the trail at 7:30 p.m. and continued looking for the stepfather, according to the release. Thirty minutes later, they discovered the 31-year-old man dead inside his vehicle, which crashed over the embankment at Boquillas Overlook, officials said. No word on what happened to the 21-year-old brother, or if he got help. The deaths are under investigation. NPS called Marufo Vega Trail the hottest part of Big Bend National Park and explained what makes it so dangerous to traverse: “No shade or water makes this strenuous trail dangerous to attempt in the heat of summer. Big Bend is currently experiencing extreme heat with daily highs reaching 110-119 F at low elevations and along the Rio Grande.” Texas has been grappling with deadly, record-breaking temperatures over the last few days. Many cities, towns, and areas reached triple-digit numbers, and a 66-year-old mail carrier even lost his life while on their job.
Just got home from working 9 hours outside, heat index of 113° as I walk in the door. Fuck this, fuck that, fuck you, fuck me.
Can't even imagine. I had a bunch of golf plans for this extended trip. Teed off yesterday at 730a, off the course at 1130a, and still was on the verge of a heat stroke. Decided I wouldn't be playing any more golf while in Texas
Just 4 more days of it this week! Actually, today is supposed to be the worst day this week. Last Tuesday still takes the cake of most miserable day I have ever worked, high of 99 with heat index of 120. You just learn how to hydrate well, not to eat meals but rather nibbles of food throughout the day. And to take a hard line on saying enough is enough if you start to feel the slightest bit off. we are supposed to have higher temps than today most the rest of the week but humidity and and heat index are going to drop along with it.
Fuck. Stay safe and cool you guys. It’s easy to say “fuck tejas” because of the politicians but you forget there are a lot of good people dealing with this heat.
I mean if it makes you feel any better, my parents can’t stop talking about Bud Light and Tre Morgan’s hair every night. Doing some really good grandparenting in the interim though
my Dad is huge SOB but he is still my old man so for the most part (unless they are out there literally killing people) I tend not to wish ill on someone’s folks, so no it doesn’t. I know good people will be hurt because of asshole politicians and their shit policies. I truly hope you and your loved ones make it through this heat wave.
most likely still in an excessive heat warning on Wednesday due to indexes above 110. But Thursday and Friday will be better because indexes should only be 105-110 then. It will be fall basically.
Im in wednesday and out thursday afternoon, sounds like I will only be there for the worst part of the heat wave.
