I've been close to a couple bears in life



Missing a picture of a cinnamon bear and her cubs while backpacking in Banff unfortunately

Was hoping to see a lynx and a caribou but wasn't lucky

I’m admittedly behind on my bear identification skills, but doesn’t that hump indicate a grizzly?

Grizzly, I'd hope to just out maneuver it, by dodging through trees or rock outcrops, a gorilla is way more agile.

 

If you don't make eye contact and go submissive a gorilla is probably going to let you live. If the bear is hungry you are fucked

 

I wonder if Canadians are embarrassed that Canadian Geese share their name.

I’m just being difficult. I’d pick a grizzly (should’ve chosen Kodiak brown bear or polar bear to up the ante cause grizzlies are pussies compared to them) because I’m more familiar with them. I’d (assuming standing my ground/intimidating them isn’t working) go for the tree line while dialing 911 and hope I can stay on the other side of a tree long enough for backup to arrive. Gorillas are much more agile than grizzlies.

Watching the wolves hunt as a pack is incredibly satisfying and terrifying at the same time.

 

I always forget how big wolves get.

We camped right off the Icefields Parkway, about 1/3 of the way south of Jasper, 2/3 of the way north of Banff.

Indescribable.

 

I think I'll regret it if that bear thinks I look tasty.

 

Average male is 95-99 lbs. Largest ever found was 175 lbs.

Regarding bears: when I was younger we went on a Jackson Hole/Yellowstone trip (we had driven up from Salt Lake since my parents were basically the Griswolds).

On the way back one of the women in the family was upset we had not seen any bears, so we see a big sign for "bear park" in Idaho and decide to roll through.

It ended up being a fucking drive through area like Jurassic Park without any separation between a rental car and roaming bears, it was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. And apparently, still operating.
