French quarter. Too convenient to stay elsewhere when we never rent cars. Sometimes we'll Uber out towards domilises then walk back stopping in a bunch places.
If some of you venture out to some spots outside of the quarter, I recommend checking out Rosella in mid-city. I really dig the vibe of this place and enjoyed the cocktails (get the "10 minutes from everywhere")
I'm a HUGE fan of Midcity, I think there's a compelling argument it's the best 'hood in the city. Treme is probably my fav, but mainly for the dive bars and general vibe. Midcity is a close second. Bywater prolly third. But, if you're tourist'n then can't really argue against the Quarter.
I've got a group of 4-5 good friends from the PNW coming to Nola for Jazzfest, none of them have ever been here before. We are going to gourge and otherwise make very poor decisions.
Anyone done brunch at Brennan's? We're going to just wander into places most of the weekend but wanted to get a brunch spot on Sunday before our flight home
Arnaud's for dinner Friday, Palm & Pine for Sunday brunch, St. Louis Cemetery tour on Friday. Want to eat at Luke and get up to Parkway at some point. The rest of the time will just be wandering and listening. Sucks that the weather won't be better on Friday and Saturday but looks like it will only be about 24 hours worth. Never been to town so close after Mardi Gras, will be interesting to see what the vibe is.
Went 2 weeks ago for a conference. Vendors paid for all the meals so I didn't pick them but went to Chophouse and Josephines. Chophouse was just a typical steak house nothing really unqiue about it. The steak was good but all steakhouse steak is pretty good. Seafood tower was pretty legit. Justine’s we had mussells to start then hanger steak frites and a snapper dish. This was an excellent meal and they have a great wine list too. I would go back.
A1X **Bananas Foster is better than all three of those desserts, imo and should be the official dessert of New Orleans.
One of my favorite internet past times is to read the #RexComus post on Twitter. Some gems from last night:
A3Z or B1Z Can't double up on crawfish. Def the poboy if it's fried oysters Anyone that chooses pralines should be drawn and quartered.
Not a huge dessert guy, but cake and adjacent fluffy foods (donuts, cupcakes, etc.) are my least favorite dessert options.
it also isn’t a New Orleans thing, like etoufee. The Creoles and Cajuns could not have been two more opposite groups. It’s like the redneck that thinks all Asian food is the same because they’re near each other. Red beans would have been an obvious one to list. Also the best jambalaya is zatarains and no I won’t be taking comments
Bad central Louisiana crop especially because of drought I believe. Should be a little bit more later in the season but not sure it'll be enough to drive prices down this year. My instagram algo has kept me abreast of the situation.
Local joint selling them for 12.99 a lb. That's $520 for a 40lb sack. Gotta put down a $200 deposit to order. What in the actual fuck.
My kid is graduating HS this year and wanted to do a crawfish boil. Sorry bruh. Unless you can get a crawfish scholarship, I don't see that happening for 100 people. Might need to sell tickets to a VIP tent in the backyard.
B, 1, Z. Really torn on A/B/C. All epic. Same with 1/2/3. Not as passionated about X/Y/Z although I like all of them
Pretty stoked for this. Have a pretty aggressive food itinerary planned for the first-timers. We're rolling 6-7 deep so wanted to get reservations at most places: Wednesday AM: Dooky Chase Wednesday PM: Pascal's Manale (subject to change) Thursday AM: Atchafalaya brunch Thursday PM: Blue Oak (after first day of festival) Friday AM: Cochon Friday PM: no plans/wing it Saturday AM: Peche Saturday PM: Superior Seafood for Oysters (9:00 PM show at Tipitina's, right around the corner) Sunday AM: Poboys - Parkway, Guy's, Domilise's Sunday PM: sleep
Is Friday AM actually Cochon or Cochon Butcher? Cochon is fine, just never been too impressed. It's little brother next door, however, is wonderful. Either way, solid list. Also - if you are looking for a nice cocktail bar, try Cure or Jewel of the South. Both are ranked in the Top 50 bars in North America. Jewel ranked higher, but I think I actually prefer Cure.
I know it's in a touristy spot, but NOLA Poboys on Bourbon down past Dumaine St next to the Clover Grill has really solid Poboys. My favorite being the extra spicy fried gator. I tried Domilise and Liuzza's by the Track last time and it was easily on par with those.
