Only caught the last 12 minutes, where the hell did Goodwin disappear to?

When Atkinson is outmatched inside Goodwin has to be on or the offense dries up.

Great drive and kick to give Cormac a shot—thought it was in. Shoot. Need to bounce back to stay off the bubble.

I think Austin Siereveld might be a silent commit? A poster on Clemson's 247 board is claiming he's going to go to ND, the poster is supposedly from his area of Ohio

Then there is this video an ND poster found on YouTube...

In his defense, I don’t think he was complete trash. I think he just had some serious red flags…
    - Weird player profiles he required of certain positions (ie. WRs had to show an ability to block well)
    - Little desire to get involved much himself, unless absolutely required or it fit another piece of his agenda
    - He settled for good instead of great in terms of recruiters as coaches and individual recruits themselves

Overall, I’d say he was an average recruiter whose success was largely driven by his ability to drive success in the other areas of our program. And frankly, there was plenty of that compared to his predecessors. Garbage is a term I would use for Ty, not BK.

We've gone a bit overboard imo. Kelly was a fine recruiter, he however was not one of the best recruiters in the game which is what we have now, so the contrast is out of whack.

We are also comparing kids that we actually landed to kids who have yet to sign. I don't expect that to matter but closing is part of all of this.

This is also very true. One of Kelly’s faults is that he coached ND during a time when super teams were being created elsewhere. Having to compete with Nick Saban will uncover and exacerbate anyone’s flaws, if they exist. He probably could have won a Title in a different era (or if a single Kansas State game went our way). But he was also far from elite.

He’ll go down as our Mark Richt, which isn’t a terrible thing.

I think there is a distinction that needs to be made, bk valued recruiting, he just valued his own time more, tw just didnt value it. Think bk was a trash, disinterested recruiternhimself but he did emphasize it on his staff, which is, tbqh, a tough tightrope to walk

Yes and no. Generally, yes there usually seems to be a dominant coach or team in the sport. That said, there also used to be plenty of “down years” either between dynasties/coaching regimes or when the dynasty needs to replace a QB (or maybe a full class) that brings some short-term parity back in play. At least it was that way before the super teams could recruit nationally and constantly reload like Alabama has. Those down years are dwindling as Bama reloads with both depth and Heisman level talent every single cycle…and transfers to fill the cracks.

The West Coast and Texas teams (and Florida teams, to a lesser degree) completely shitting the bed for a decade+ and allowing others to pillage their recruiting grounds has really killed parity in the sport. These Alabama teams now would absolutely destroy Pete Carroll’s best teams, who likely would have killed the Nebraska teams of Tom Osborne, etc. The sport used to be far more regionalized, which forced parity to some degree.

Tom Osborne just basically allowed his teams to abuse steroids and had revolutionary power lifting programs. He could’ve been at Washington State and had the same success lol

His teams were also roughly 70%+ from the state of Nebraska, which is a garbage state for athletic talent. But the same could be said for the schools he competed against. All the top recruits stayed in-state back then.

Most of Pete Carroll’s teams were California-centric too (though that’s a much better state to stick to than Nebraska). It wasn’t until later in his tenure at USC that he began pulling kids somewhat nationally. Social media, cheaper travel, cell phones, etc made it easier for kids to leave home.

The rosters Alabama and Georgia are putting together now are pretty unprecedented in the sport.

thats my point he created a super team through steroids and revolutionary weightlifting techniques he could’ve done that anywhere in that time period - they were still a super team though because of this

Yeah, this is how I think it was. Not to mention, he wasn't bad at it. He was actually has a good personality for it, which is why it was so frustrating that he wasn't more involved with building those relationships along the way. He could have been an asset, but instead became a liability because recruits were able to juxtapose their involvement with him with of head coaches who were more active and with whom they developed better relationships.
