In normal times I wear a suit maybe 3-4x a month. Rarely w a tie for work. I dont mind it. As long as there’s no tie.

My first job was full suit and tie every day. It was awful. Especially baking in the humidity walking to and getting crammed in the Brown Line every say :donotwant:

I actually really enjoyed wearing a tie everyday. Made me feel good to dress up. But now that I dress down every day, there’s no going back.

I like dressing up for weddings and fundraisers now. But the everyday suit was a grind. Also weekly dry cleaners trips were always a hassle too

Suit or sport coat everyday. I like it. Tie would be too much though.

I like slacks. Of course mine are just cotton slim fit pants so pretty comfy. My favorite form of pants outside of sweats and adjacent type of pant. If they made these slacks with an elastic waistband and a drawstring I’d be in heaven.

Jeans, polo, quarter zip, and nice shoes are my common attire. We wear golf attire between Memorial Day and Labor day- polos, golf shorts, boat shoes.

I don’t know if I can go back to not wearing basketball shorts and a T-shirt everyday. I absolutely hate wearing any type of “dress” clothes.

Actually made out of polyester so will pass. Polyester pants just don't work for me. I've got two pair that I got through a previous job, wore them once and then donated them to Goodwill.

What should I wear to a zoom interview?

Have an interview with a company that offered me a job about 1.5 years ago. It’s a competitor and it’s to do the same exact thing I do now. My current company ended up playing ball and giving me a raise the first time around.

When I spoke to the HR lady this time I told her my base salary requirements would need to beat my total salary with bonus. She made it sound like that wouldn’t be a problem. Only real hesitation is they’re slightly smaller and might expect a tad more travel.

tl;dr I don’t know what to wear and young goose is trying to secure the bag

I’ve decided I’m wearing a collared shirt, with a nice sweater over top and slacks and if they don’t hire me because of it they can suck it

I tell candidates to dress one level up from the person who will be interviewing them.

You probably won’t fail dressing on the same level, but a step up can convey you’re level of interest in the position.

I have recently started aggressively looking for jobs for the first time in several years and I must say, companies have really gotten their shit together with regard to online job applications. Everything I've applied for has just been upload your resume, check the box on the mandatory immigration/disability/race questions and hit submit.

I do not miss tediously going through 9 different sections of clunky drop downs and manually entering information that is clearly laid out on my resume.

I wish I could say the same. Most places that I had been applying at that didn’t have Indeed/LinkedIn easy apply required you to upload a resume and at best it would fuck up the auto fill of the application and you’d have to delete and copy and paste a large chunk of it

I put my resume in for a new job here locally. A few of the line items on the job posting I don't meet but I'm hoping they don't take it in to too much consideration since I personally think they were a bit inconsequential and could be overcome.

    Question for the group

I got a call from a recruiter in the corporate office of the company I applied for. She left a message. I called her back and left a message. When would be the appropriate time to call back if I don't hear back from her?

Do you have her email? I’d follow up in that manner, might be quicker for her to respond.

She'll call you back, if she's interested. Calling too frequently looks desperate and the human psyche makes us believe that desperate = bad.

There is actually no right or wrong, but if it were me, I'd wait until Wednesday morning. It's not that long and she's probably working a bunch of positions with multiple candidates.

So, I emailed her back yesterday telling her I get off work at 3:15 and that 3:30 would be a good time for her to call if that worked for her. I heard nothing back and assumed everything was good.

Haven't heard anything. Next step I should take?

Haven’t worn a tie in 16 years or a legit suit since 2007 just ain’t for me.......I’m a Mexican city kid from the hood it just doesn’t jibe with me, and anyone who knows including my wife knows that suits and white frat country club type clothing looks awkward on me and it just wouldn’t be right......luckily in the Bay Area corporations here let u dress pretty much as I please
