I just worked for one of the largest companies in Mexico for the last six years (worked for the American division)...this shit makes me so sad. That country is so fucked. I had multiple Mexican bosses and co-workers...and did tons of travel with them. The stories they tell....and almost all of them grew up in very upper class families which allowed them to get to their business positions and work in America....and yet even in America's current political climate ..they have zero desire to leave. Maybe their heart wants to leave...but, absolute zero desire due to safety. It's so sad.
Yes it is a very complicated situation in Mexico, I’m just glad so far that my family has been okay besides a few robberies and extortions of their businesses, but overall it could be worse
would love to go to San Miguel or Guanajuato one day - obviously not now with the uptick in violence, but both of those cities look amazing
they’re are the real deal, just great vibes, food, art and amazing architecture......would highly recommend it if you get the chance once hopefully things cool down a bit.......definitely somewhere I can see myself retiring someday
Same shit happens when they capture or kill the main target. Basically all lieutenants under the jefe want to be the next guy so you get these skirmishes and executions until one side wins. Once they do, peace comes back to the region.... For the most part
I’ve heard there’s a lot of Americans that retire down in that area because the cost of living is so cheap and it’s great in terms of weather, etc. Hopefully things will simmer down in the next couple of years so it’ll be safer to go back.
So...at this point we can all agree this is not crime right? This is an insurgency. I am curious as to what the line is for getting the "terrorist organization" tag onto one of these organizations. They have effectively become occupying armies, down to uniforms/training/etc, whose political aim is to capture and maintain the plazas that allow for their product to reach their target market. I guess you could expect as much out of any criminal organization given that amount of money and 50 years of no enforcement but man, its pretty fucking scary
Unfortunately I am sure it is much harder to do something about it now than it would have been pre-2000 when the PAN finally got their shot at moving against the cartels publicly. Given the PRI turning a blind eye to these guys for decades, they had all that time to stack money for bribes, arms, general corruption etc. Instead of fighting a whole hearted war against a criminal organization, you are up against a group that has been paying off at the VERY minimum all their local and state officials for generations. They are politically very insulated and on top of that, the militarization of the cartels with the rise of organizations like Los Zetas is a whole different can of worms. Its one thing for some former military guys to show criminals how to shoot (that happens all over the world including in the US). Its a whole different ball game for entire units of elite military and police to effectively defect and join those orgs. Like we saw when the authorities tried to get Chapos son, its not a matter of overwhelming force. A lot of times, the feds are truly fighting better trained, better armed, better paid, more experienced forces on the other side. Add to that that the local populations in places like Sinoloa/Culiacan are either too scared to help or financially incentivized to help protect the leadership, the whole thing is a huge nightmare. The roots go incredibly deep.

you won't find much in the Mexican press for it due to fear. It was so long ago, there was a vice article from a few years ago about it. I tried going to some of the old Narco sites I used to go through, but looks like most of them are offline now This looks like a pretty detailed account of it

I forgot about this. I don’t understand the level of monster you have to be to just casually burn children alive
I cannot imagine the thoughts going those officers’ heads, especially the third not wearing a helmet. Her balls are way bigger than mine
This occurred Tuesday night where my mom currently lives in Mexico http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2022/08/cjng-spreads-chaos-in-guanajuato-after.html?m=1
I was having dinner with my cousin (ex Mexican Highway Patrol officer) and some of his former colleagues last week in Mexico and they had some wild stories it turned out to be a 5 hour dinner
This is getting wild. Biden is scheduled to visit next week I believe. Rumor is the Mexican army captured El Chapos son.
