Also, small tip but get on the plane with the kid as late as posssible, like last call. If you have carry ons you want to store overhead send one parent on early with the carryons while the other waits at the gate letting the kid run, play whatever till the last minute. The less time on the plane the better. Nothing worse than sitting on the plane not moving.
Make sure you're flying with your family members and your kid likes a grandparent/aunt/uncle more than they like you. We flew with my 1.5 year old as an infant in arms and he just wanted to sit with them the whole time so they entertained him. but seriously just a bunch of snacks and distractions, it'll be fine. If you kid has a revenge seeker decades later that's their problem not yours. They reap what they sow.
Also if you get a bunch of small toys to bust out, obviously don't shoot your wad and take them out all at once. Do it every 15-30 minutes if things are really bad.
Look on Amazon for Advent Calendars. When we flew with our 3 year old, they had some cheap ones, and he was thrilled to open them
Aside from the popular ones (Toy Story, Bluey, etc.) what are some kids shows/movies you find yourself enjoying? I’m big on Tangled rn.
The better Lego ones like Lego Batman. We have the DVD in our car and I swear I still laugh at that one even though I’ve heard it 1000 times. meanwhile kids are binging the crap out of captain underpants currently
My kid just started watching tv and still doesnt stay engaged long but she likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and I don’t mind it and sometimes enjoy it.
we’re not big on screen-time but we let our toddler join us for Nip/Tuck reruns a few nights a week. she loves it.
Just paid $8,500 to the fertility clinic to have baby #2. Sometime in January they will implant the frozen embryo I've been paying $50 a month to keep in frozen storage so we can have baby number 2. I think $8500 covers everything including the transfer, drugs, etc. The most expensive part for baby #1 were the IUIs and all the other stuff to get the good embryos. I think all of that was easily $50,000 for baby #1. Baby number 2 is proving much cheaper thus far because we already have several really high grade embryos
Our kiddo 1 was IVF as well. Of course kiddo 2 was the old fashioned way after everything we went through for kid 1.
We had a good result with IVF the first go round so figured we'd do it again for kid #2. I'm not sure old fashioned way is in the cards and we know this works so what's another $8500
Yah as a guy you kind of just feel like an asshole because you don't have to do shit (Other than being sympathetic and going to a bunch of fertility appointments and jacking off into a cup at some point ) while they go through all sorts of hell .
My brother has been going through IVF with his wife and they finally were told they have viable embryos. I think now they are just waiting to implant. It's all so much for my sister in law. Hope it happens for them soon.
Just getting to get rid of all of our storage stuff. Used IVF the first time after five years of trying and then got pregnant naturally right away with #2. Going to save a lot on monthly payments of storing embryos and cum.
I’m not going to sugarcoat it the whole process fucking sucks but obviously it’s all worth if it works out.
Anybody have a specific step stool they like? Kid likes to climb, but she’s not big enough to be on her own. Need something to prevent her from falling. A bunch on Amazon, need to narrow it down. I don’t really like the idea of just one back rail https://a.co/d/iEw96iM
Despite desperately wanting to dress up as an astronaut for Halloween, 4yo had immediate regrets when walking into preK and seeing two other girls dressed up as a princess. Good stuff.
Spiderman and Captain Marvel just left for preschool/work. My plan to be an authentic Hulk this evening, shoeless and with body paint while only wearing shorts and a wig instead of a wearable costume, for trick or treating has backfired tremendously. We are in the midst of an unseasonable cold-front and highs will be in the upper 40s-lower 50s during said event. I am not 20 and full of bourbon, I shall catch pneumonia.
I appreciate the kids schools putting on events but man this was the first year I was ready for Halloween to be over before it got here. One had a halloween festival 2 weeks ago did trunk or treat there with both kids. Youngest had his own trunk or treat at school yesterday. Today the other had a parade at school. BACK IN MY DAY WE HAD ONE HALLOWEEN NOT 3.
Got the email reminder last evening that no costumes are allowed at school and any student or staff with any costume element would be required to change Bah humbug local isd
ours went the opposite end of stupid spectrum and today is 'dress as favorite book character day', but they were very adamant that it was not 'wear your halloween costume day'
Son’s turning 2 next week and we’re experiencing some serious sleep regression. Wife or I will get him to sleep, but when he’s out into his crib he shoots back up and will repeatedly cry for mama and generally freaks out. Woke up wide awake at 4:30 this morning as well. He’s also been super attached to my wife more lately - not sure why as we do parenting very equitably. Any tips/advice/experiences welcomed
I'm told the high school girls and moms dressing their younger than high school girls like Victoria's secret girls, are the reason
Hey wait that's what ours is today too. That's my other complaint we somehow ended up buying 3 costumes. 1 for the festival, 1 for Halloween, and because neither of those was a storybook character a third for that.
Doesn’t necessarily make it easy, kinda sucks when they don’t want you, but it’s definitely not just you. Happened with my son, now he’s 7 and wants to play with me non-stop.
My kids smartened up and wanted to be Atlanta United players for Halloween. Now they both have official uniforms (kits?) they can wear all year instead of the one time costume from years past.
sons teacher was smart and sent an email saying if your kid wants to dress up as spiderman just have them write their own story about it. boom book character costume. wife decided stress/anxiety was the better option and rushed to make both kids costumes for school
our daughter is close to two and she definitely goes through phases where she's more attached to one of us. She also has gone through a couple sleep regressions recently. Just doesn't want to go to bed. Will lay in bed and babble, or play with her musical owl. Our only solution has been to let it happen. No matter what we try, she will not sleep, so she stays up till it's very clear she's ready (usually an extra hour or two). Normal bed time is around 830 for her.
Yea past two weeks our kids have been super attached to me, but the 2 yr old has only been wanting mom this week. Makes bedtime easier as I only get one kid and she gets the other.
Kid2 has preferred mom pretty much her entire 2 years of existence so I feel you. Just how it shakes out sometimes.
Starting therapy for my child on Friday and continuing asking for "reason" my child is hitting at school. Finally come to find out his "issues" are with one specific child. So last night I'm able to target my questions around this one person. "Lil WED who do you like playing with at school" got answers. "Is anyone not your friend" and got 1 specific answer. Start asking why, what's going on with this girl. Apparently she constantly tells him to not talk to her, he's not her friend, she doesn't like him, believe she actually told him one time that "your dad isn't your best friend". Words hurt and that's kind of mean as a 3 year old. Now it's not appropriate how my son reacts, but my son is the one getting in trouble, her parents are complaining constantly to daycare, and I'm about to drop a grand a month in therapy b/c of one lil girl has a sharp tongue. It's hard to get a ton of information out of a 3 year old. most of the times I don't take it as full truth. Like "XYZ hit me"...I don't email the daycare in anger, I'm more like "what did you do, how did you react" then just work to fix the problem 3 year-olds are manic and chaos machines. This shit is frustrating and absolutely killing me
Yep, it's so fucking much. I'm absolutely not dressing up, this is for kids now not adults to put in effort.
My two year old was constantly biting one kid who was his best friend and if he went to play with other kids he’d go up and bite him like marking his territory. Been a fun few months of this on and off again issue.
