It's been very localized. Clemson got crushed too, we haven't gotten anything. The pasture is crunchy. So there could have been rain up there since it's the same distance from me as Clemson.

a local ranger caught a killer bartram’s bass. they’ve worked pretty hard to get some recognition for the species. i might give them another try before the rafters get heavy on the lower chattooga.

Got on the red ears over at the big lake last night and this morning. Probably had a few pounders. Thought the first one I caught was a crappie.

Fish In South Florida Waters Are On Drugs, New Study Says
    By Zuri Anderson

    May 19, 2022
A new study made a shocking discovery about the fish inhabiting South Florida waters. According to WPEC in West Palm Beach, a research team found that all the fish in the region are on drugs, particularly prescription medicine. These substances were reportedly detected inside the fish's blood and tissue.

"We found pharmaceuticals everywhere and there was no place where basically a fish could be unexposed to pharmaceuticals and that was a surprise," Nick Castillo told reporters. He just completed a three-year study with fellow scientists at Florida International University and the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust.

Researchers analyzed 93 bonefish in South Florida, and every single one of them had at least seven drugs reported in their systems. Scientists found up to 16 different prescriptions in the fish, including valium, blood pressure medication, and antidepressants. The study concluded that the fish are ingesting the drugs through human waste, which can contain leftover medicine that wasn't processed in the body.

Scientists are concerned about how this will affect other fish and their behaviors. They haven't looked into how this can affect humans.

Dr. Jennifer Rehage, the lead researcher for the study, says wastewater treatment facilities in Florida aren't built to account for pharmaceuticals.

"So we don’t have the right equipment and the right legislation, the rules, the treatment and its escalating and it's exploding right in front of our faces," she says.

    which lorance do you have?

I have an elite that came with sidescan, but never even installed the skimmer. Don’t fish deep enough for it

I run Florida marine tracks. Don’t really need it for around here, but is a game changer for the lime stone death traps of the rivers and coastline north of here and oyster bars of the Everglades

I have Lowrance HDS9. Had a Simrad NSS EVO2 on the old boat. I don't mind the HDS9 but I'll probably upgrade to a 12 inch screen at some point. Maybe get two screens at some point. I've heard Florida Marine Tracks is great for Florida.

    Local area

On the afternoon of May 14, 2022, Region 1 officer LCpl Tatum and CO Thomas were on routine patrol in Greenville County. Vehicles were located in the area of the South Saluda River near Wildcat Wayside at a DNR fishing access and stocking point. One individual was observed carrying a large cooler back toward his vehicles. During initial contact with the subject he claimed there were only drinks in the cooler and no fish. Upon further investigation the cooler revealed an illegal cast net and 2 grocery bags which contained 29 trout. The individual admitted to using the cast net to catch the fish and futher investigation revealed he also had not purchased a freshwater fishing license. Charges pending court include fishing without a license, using a nongame device to obtain freshwater game fish(Cast Net), and over the limit trout (x24).

also thought they changed the laws to allow cast nets last year. last year i saw a guy dragging out carp from the Broad river around Gaffney with one.

*as long as you have a license, it's allowed except on SCDNR managed lakes.

Yeah, but only for bait fish. Maybe they were going to argue that trout are bait fish for stripers.

The last two days we cut and sanded the strips of walnut and maple, cut the handles, and soaked the first set of strips and formed it around the jig to dry. Plan to glue the first one up tomorrow.
