I took severe and unusual weather my freshmen year. My teacher was a storm chaser so he would show us his videos and tell us stories in class.
I read that there were 20+ tornadoes in Oklahoma today. Damn! That one off Highway 9 in Norman wasn't too far from my house too. I was thinking about making a thread earlier, mainly to make sure all our fellow MBers made it out okay - themselves and their property. Some places in the state got demolished, although the damage was pretty isolated. Hope everybody is alright.
Shit is already getting real on tornadovideos.net. KWCH-TV's Scott Roberts is following a Sysco truck.
Shit's even more real in W. Texas/Oklahoma. Thunder Entertainment is stuck in a ditch and needs to get pulled out. Watching fat tornado chasers try to push it out was funny. That area is in a tornado warning. It took an F-250 or F-350 to rescue those chumps.
The first storm just popped in, will rain for like 10 tops and then die. we got another one comin too. Love TStorms
IUBloomington Emergency! Tornado warning has been issued for campus. Go to the lowest level of your building. Take safe shelter.
meant to bump this yesterday to see how the OKC or OU guys were doing in that area. had some crazy amounts of rain a yesterday morning and the night before causing bad flooding throughout the city. also completely fucked up my travel plans as i go to Edmond then had to turn around and go through Tulsa just to go south for Houston :curses:
Crazy storms all week for me....Just had lightning strike close enough to my house that the rumble lasted for 10 seconds and nearly made me jizz. in. my. pants.
I'm glad a found this thread... Studyin meteorology in school got hundreds of pics to add to this thread
Vandy and Florida women's game postponed till tomorrow because of impending severe weather shit looks bad on Weather.com
Just had one touch down a few miles down the road in Theodore, AL. This storm is nasty. 50 mph winds for 10 minutes or so.
that storm came through tuscaloosa and was so electrically charged it took out like 4 power grid things one of them right next to my apt... it was like a constant stream of lightning between it and the grid then the power would go out and then come back on (i guess they have generators or somethin) the lightning stream would start over again... i saw it 3 times it was incredible

Weather.com has the chance of precip as 60% but hourly it never gets above 10%...I'm no math major but I am confused.
There is a 10% chance of rain for a given hr, but a 60% chance that it rains during any hour. answer: weathermen are just guessing
There was a crazy tornado that hit last night in Western Iowa. http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/Severe_Storms_Likely_This_Evening_119535459.html This site actually has video footage of the tornado: http://ww2.cox.com/myconnection/kansas/today/news.cox
For local weather, I always read this guys blog. He's the most accurate and explains it to you so you actually know where they get their predictions. More info on that Mapleton Tornado from the blog: Over 20 confirmed tornadoes in Iowa on Saturday. Tornadoes appear front loaded this spring, much like the spring of 74. Most of the tornadoes in '74 were in April with may having numerous hail reports. Mapleton tornado confirmed as EF3 path 3.5mi and width .75mi. Fwiw the blogger is the best local weather guy. He explains mostly Omaha Nebraska(I'm in Lincoln at school), but talks about and gives models that show a majority of the midwest. He went to Penn State and is from Ohio IIRC. http://www.wowt.com/blogs/jimflowers/Severe_Storms_Saturday_119225344.html
