I remember reading this would be one of the first sectors to really feel the effects of the sanctions last year.
From what I've seen, Russians have been attacking from multiple areas only to get destroyed with minimal to zero gain of territory. Its like Bakhmut but more troops dying and less ground gained.
lil tool box safety talk for y'all this Monday: probably wouldn't stand in front of that track hoe while the gravel I'm standing on erodes under my feet.
Gutting documentary from the fall of Mariupol. Important work these journalist did. Content warning obviously. The NSFW stuff is people (including children) dying in a hospital.
Supposedly Russia has lost between 900-1000 men a day in November making it the worst month of the war for them. Christ
Apparently Russia tried to poison Budanov's wife. He's one of, if not the main, leader of the Ukrainian Army.
It'll be interesting if it ever gets to a tipping point. It's going to take a bunch of moms/wives like Damas de Blanco in Cuba, I think.
WaPo has a very long article on the state of the war and Ukraine's counteroffensive with a lot of quotes from senior US military types I liked this one: During one visit to Wiesbaden, Milley spoke with Ukrainian special operations troops — who were working with American Green Berets — in the hope of inspiring them ahead of operations in enemy-controlled areas. “There should be no Russian who goes to sleep without wondering if they’re going to get their throat slit in the middle of the night,” Milley said, according to an official with knowledge of the event. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/12/04/ukraine-counteroffensive-us-planning-russia-war/
Don’t really know where else to put this, so since this is the semi-official “war” thread: Was telling the story of the pilot who sonic boomed my FOB in Syria on Reddit. And apparently the guy who did it is on there and confirmed it was him by his call sign, and said sorry. I’m fucking hooting in my living room and my wife is looking at me like I’m crazy. (She doesn’t understand despite the horrible things that deployment did to me mentally and physically, it was also the most fun I’ve ever had).
(also not sure who he is) yes agree as well- it really is that transparent to anyone who looks at the full picture with unbiased soberness. combine this with inflation, recessions, elections, mass shootings, and everything else.....idk what the answers are but consider the vibes in rooins
Putin is right that he can wait us out bc this country Is so divided and filled with people that hate each other. you really notice it when you spend a few days outside the country then return .
Couple quibbles (see below), but overall at least there's some people spelling out the big picture for everyone. I don't think we could have or should have put US troops in Ukraine to oppose the invading Russians. Piecemeal arming Ukraine coupled with an arrogant belief that NATO tactics would magically protect 1980s era armored columns from scores of landmines and punch through Russian lines was stupid. Really fucking stupid. Hindsight and such, but it feels like military experts should have known better. I tend to agree with with him on Russian moves in the Sahel and middle east (and soon, South America)... but it's basically replacing one colonial system with another in Africa, at least. The west had and has zero interest in fostering actual strong nation states in the region, with educated, healthy people. It's a disaster, but it's a disaster built on our own greed. God forbid our corporate masters pay workers $2 / hour instead of $2 / week. And yeah, the Putin meetings in Saudi and UAE are pretty telling. Putin and MbS were high fiving each other this week. But hey, keep selling the Saudis and Dubai our newest weapons systems, it's working out fucking great, guys.
BTW, the real kicker will be when Putin (and/or Trump) flies to the ME and negotiates a peace deal with Bibi in the next couple of months.
Yep, screw that fucker. Also... Can't find the tweet, but apparently the big barrage of missiles on Dec 8 marked the end of the USSR. The last big barrage marked the Holodomor. Fuck Putin.
Need to just give the republican dipshits what they want on the border and get this aid package done.
is there some sort of poison pill in the border funding? I'm just confused why its a problem, I've seen like every D come out in favor of doing something for the border
my understanding is they’re trying to drastically reduce legal immigration. It’s not just money for a wall or more patrol officers
