Why would he not want to go to Texas and lose most of his games for the next two years until Sark gets fired, and he has to transfer again?
Players should’ve always been making money. I’m sure this NIL will be hilarious chaos. Some billionaire alum will be churning out deals.
That would be genius. Transfer year just making tiktoks and fucking around and adding zeros to that bank account.
By all accounts Ewers was a really good kid while in Columbus. There were several times when the media members were leaving interviews and Ewers and a receiver or two were the only guys left still working after practice. The bottom line is that he was No. 4 on the depth chart and two of the guys ahead of him are coming back next year (plus another really good 2022 kid). I don't think it was fair to expect him to play in 2021 or even 2022 for that matter; at least not in Columbus. It makes sense for him to get millions of dollars and go closer to home where he can play right away.
I'm willing to bet that one of those 50 isn't sitting in the texas qb room right now. But hey, I'll take him if nobody wants him.
That sounds about right. A lot of it came from that one water company or whatever it is down in Texas. I know he got a new truck from a Columbus car dealership too. I think The Walrus ’s best friend works at the dealership.
the reports at the time said the 1.4 was for a 3-year deal. not sure if he keeps that or not with the transfer (guessing he keeps it since those are not allowed to be tied to participation)
So is Message Board Geniuses trolling or are they now a breaking news service? I can’t keep up with their strategy.
Outside of the money, never made sense to go to OSU early, especially considering he showed up 2 weeks late. You guys already had 3 4* QBs on the roster, so the chances of all 3 busting were slim. He could've gone somewhere else and got the money, and not be buried on the depth chart
You don’t want the number one player in the nation in his class (two classes actually) at the number one most important position in sports. At your struggling program with only struggling players at that position on the roster. And could attract other potential top-level recruits as you transition into the toughest conference in college sports. Because he’s (smartly) doing what every other elite prospect will do from now on to maximize their earning potential. Because he’s doing exactly what your university is trying to facilitate for other future prospects to encourage them to come to Texas.
True, but those somewhere elses would have to: 1. Allow him to enroll as a 2021 2. Have a 7 figure NIL deal on the table as soon as he got here. I imagine any school could do 1, but only a few schools could offer 2 for a guy who wasn’t expected to play a meaningful down. If Texas didn’t have dumb NIL rules, he could have made the money and stayed in high school.
I thought outside the truck, his NIL deals were from TX companies? I thought it was a kombucha company and a water company?
That’s pretty vague. Top pick money? The contract value or just signing bonus amounts? But even the last pick of the first-round is $12 million/6 million guaranteed. Definitely a whole new era in CFB.
Make a combo salary cap for players/coaches. Lets see what coaches are smart enough to play the long game.
Kids don't need a cap imo. Just put a limit on coach salary and the number of off field coaches and a lot would be resolved
I’m sure his salary from the car dealerships he owns would increase but it would be an absolute competitive advantage in this silly fabricated world that will never happen, and I think at his age and net worth he would.
