How kind of you. Not everyone intends and/or associates hate, offense, or fear with words that some others might. What pops in my head when I hear the word is basically the urban dictionary definition below. A feminine male that can easily pass as an attractive female. Which is more of a compliment than a transphobic slur. Not to mention, really the only place I’ve seen it used frequently is 4chan. And I’m assuming those people are attracted to “traps” and don’t hate them. I might be naive on the topic, and that’s fine. Rather live in my bubble where not every single thing has to be offensive or hateful to someone. *I do understand the word trap and the association of an unknown penis being a literal trap. But the deceit and assault of an unwitting male or the scenario you laid out isn’t the first thing that comes to mind.

I think it raises some good points that I, as a dumb cis male, probably wouldn't have considered had I not come across it. It makes enough of a case for me to avoid it. I think that the trans-panic legal defense is a particularly strong justification for not using the term. I'll also add that today is the first time I've actually seen/heard it used, so I don't really have a context of its prior use.
All this is telling me is that Wes Tegg isn't a seasoned vet of the internet like some of us who have truly seen it all
A term that is based on the physical characteristics of a highly marginalized and discriminated group of people seems pretty dicey.
It was fairly widely accepted in the trans community from what I remember a decade ago but things change certainly and I'd imagine it's probably a slur most trans people would consider now.
