I'd add Rutgers to the list of out of nowhere. I mean, nobody willingly wants Rutgers. Not even Rutgers' momma.
Teams don't leave conferences to chase pocket change. Other considerations matter more unless the increased pay-outs will be a game-changer for a school's athletics department. Florida wouldn't leave the SEC if they could make more money in the B1G. Notre Dame isn't turning in their identity as an independent to make more money in the B1G. Utah, West Virginia, Rutgers and TCU all made game-changing upgrades going from the MWC/Big East to the Pac-12/Big XII/B1G. Maryland is the rare example of a team leaving one stable power conference for another (and the ACC is less stable than the B1G, SEC, and Pac-12). But Maryland's athletics department was hemorrhaging money, and the Big Ten's future earnings are a large upgrade over those of the ACC. Arizona/ASU don't have severe money problems. And the Big XII doesn't provide a financial life line. What the Arizona schools need is improvements from the Pac-12 network.
They wanted the Big Ten originally (definitely a better cultural fit), but Nebraska took their spot. Rutgers has been just fine. Sure, they're terrible on the field, but their presence makes more money for BTN and has opened up New Jersey's recruits for pillaging.
the Big XII would provide a great financial life line if it added the Arizona schools. the payouts from the two conferences are already comparable and the Big XII doesn't even have a conference network yet. If the Big XII added two programs like Arizona and Arizona State, it would only make the Big XII that much more viable it's not as ludicrous as you're making it out to be
You're trying to sell the Arizona schools on a dream of "what could be" when Oklahoma is still busy making noise about leaving and Texas hasn't shown any indication that they're willing to give up the Longhorn Network.
if the Big XII could bring two programs like the Arizona schools into the fold, you don't think OU would calm down and Texas would renegotiate the Longhorn Network into the Big XII network? it's pretty obvious that OU and Texas aren't balking when Cinci and UCF are brought up. But they would listen for UA and ASU and who says the Big XII has to sell that to UA and ASU and they're not the ones asking?
I think it might settle Oklahoma down, but I don't see Texas giving up the longhorn network for those two schools. And then that will rile Oklahoma up again.
update on B1G TV deal/realignment Bluevod @Bluevodreal May 25 Confirmed NBC & TNT leading heading into the final stretch for 2nd half TV Deal. ND is in Serious play.
sorry to come back to this but it is bothering me do you honestly think the sec would go after unc charlotte or richmond?
I sat and stared at that post for a solid 5 minutes before I shook it off and continued through the thread
big 12 fanbase quotient is by far the highest though now that Baylor is getting sent down to the southland conference
its never gonna happen but I wouldnt mind the AZ schools going to the Big 12 they would be a good fit with their academic prestige. Which they definitely don't fit in with the Pac in that case.

Sounds like Big 12 believes CFP needs to give more money to reimburse schools that participate.
This really puts into perspective how terrible every potential expansion candidate is (for the Big 12). http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/2016/05/31/uc-vs-big-12-candidates-who-stands-out/85193190/
